Thank you very much for this review. I’m a beginner oil painter and currently using Winsor and Newton Artist’s Oil paints. I’ll give the Lukas 1862 paints a try as they are the more affordable option in my country.

Jason, even though you made these videos on color seven years ago, I have just found them. It's perfect timing for me, because I am returning to oils like I used in art lessons back in the 80's. I picked my painting up again about six years ago using acrylics and only accomplishing a couple paintings a year. Now, I want to be a more finished artist. I want to put that shine on water and creamy mixture in the clouds. Therefore, I am about to invest in oils again. I have been taking notes. You have been a wealth of information that has directed me on what and where to buy. I can't thank you enough. You have probably just saved me from buying the wrong paints and wasting my time and money. I'm gonna use your recipe to mix my own medium also. Thank you!

In spiritual circles, they believe that love bombing and being supportive will help a narcissist personality disorder. I'm not talking about having narcissistic tendencies which I don't believe exists. Yes, on the spectrum of ego or self centeredness, yes we are at various levels of being self centered. But we are a balance of ego centric and gregarious beings. I was the target of such a narcissist. Despite having a psychology minor and a nursing background, I haven't encountered one before. I'm struggling with dealing with the aftermath of being told I need to be loving and understanding. 🙏🏼

Where do I get a yellow fluorescent mango watercolor? I have an opera and i know there are blues not labeled as such but that are fluorescent like manganese blue hue (Daniel smith) and lunar blue
@walcottfineart508812 күн бұрын
I'm not sure about Daniel Smith, but I do know that Winsor & Newton offers several flourescent colors in their gouache line which can be thinned and used the same as water color. Just keep in mind that flourescent dyes will fade easily. Thanks for watching :)

Painting with lead, no gloves, surface protection, all indoors and with bare hands. Painters madness is scared of you buddy! Love your art man but as a proffesional painter in the EU. This is crazy 😂❤

LOL Thanks! Well, firstly lead doesn't absorb through the skin...it has to be ingested. I neve r eat or drink while painting and always wahs my hands carefully when done. Plus I always wear a barrier cream to protect myself when painting. My favorite is Gloves in a Bottle. I also have an air purifier in my studio that removes VOCs from the air :) Thanks for watching!

@@walcottfineart5088 Meanwhile the average Europian breakfast is coffee with a cigarette. I think it has to do with the working environment (which we have very strict rules in) when making lead paints. When it comes to oil painting it has a very low chance of being dangerous if handled correctly. But yeah it was during the 2000 that they scared everybody shitless with the leadpaint bans including me. Sadly it can't be bought anywhere other than special paint manufacturers.

For the split primary palette, I would substitute Burnt Umber for Black. Burnt umber is more versatile as you can make warm/cool blacks by mixing with Ultramarine and it can be used to de-saturate other colors esp in landscapes. Convenient secondaries that I prefer include chrome green, dioxazine purple and cad orange. Diox is a good start for landscape shadows.
@davefaulkner630226 күн бұрын
Regarding the Zorn palette, you cannot use any black. Zorn used an Ivory Black, which is very blue especially when mixed with plenty of white, and can be used as a blue when mixing. Other black pigments do not have this property and will not work.

@walcottfineart5088Ай бұрын
I'm not sure about Van Gogh specifically but NaturalPigments.com has great articles and resources on pigments and painting methods & materials. You might try there, I know there was also a book published of Van Gogh's letters to his brother Theo. I think that has some info about his methods. You can find it on Amazon. Thanks for watching! :)

So I just recently got 150 ML ultramarine blue from gambling artist grade paint and lots of dry clumpy pieces were in it. Pretty sure air got in there and now I want to change to a whole different brand because of that it’s very serious and consistency that I, do not tolerate and I think the high-end paints are pretty expensive but then you showed Blue Ridge so I’m gonna go for Blue Ridge and see what that’s like so thanks for your video

Hi Jason! I'm going through this video and I heard you say that a cadmium 150ml tube was around 40ish dollars? Right now, here in Europe, I find them at 80ish euros, around 90 dollars. Did they go up in price because of inflation or I'm buying at the wrong place? If so, do you know good shops to buy in Europe?
@walcottfineart5088Ай бұрын
Yes, the price has gone up in the years since I posted this video. I suspect you are also getting some export fees that aren't added on here in the USA since that's where Gamblin in made. Here they're stilli going for about $55 per large tube. I checked Jackson's in the UK which carries Gamblin. You can order online from them and they ship worldwide. They have the large tubes for $66 which is about 60 euros. Jacksonsart.com Thanks for watching! :)

Hello. I'm from Spain and I don't find this lead oils. Where do you buy the rublev? There is a website called natural pigments and it looks like it's their official website but there are only 50ml tubes and they are around 50€. Is there a place where I can buy one larger? I don't know where to find blockx or Utrecht either. Can you help me, please?
@walcottfineart5088Ай бұрын
Rublev is sold by Natural Pigments yes, and I do believe you can get their Lead White from their EU site. It is very expensive. Unfortunately, there's no getting around that. Here in the US the 50mL tubes of lead white are about $50 so near the same. The big ones are $130. Some of these white brands aren't made anymore since I posted the video. If the expense is not worth it for you, I do recommend Winsor & Newton's Flake WHite Hue. It's a nice white. Thanks for watching!

Can Alizarin crimson be substituted with quinacridone magenta??
@walcottfineart5088Ай бұрын
Thanks for the question! They aren't a one to one match. Alizarin Crimson is not as bright and sturated as Quin Magenta. If you need a better substitue for Aliz Crim my favorite is Rembrandt's 'Permanent Madder Deep' which is actually a pyrrole crimson. Thansk for watching!

The shinyness of metals is indicated by the values reflected in it so aside from the color be sure to pay close attention to that. Don't be afraid to go dark if you see it in the subject. Thanks for watching! :)

Utrecht white is very good white. Utrecht oil paint makes very good Titanium white. But I like to use pure titanium white without lead white to keep my painting zinc free. Sir doesn't utrecht makes pure titanium white?
@walcottfineart50882 ай бұрын
I'm not sure if Utrecht makes a pure Titanium White. You could check on their website or on Blick and see if they make it. From what I understand they are still trying to parse out the exact effect of zinc white on paint films. There are zinc free lead whites as well that you can get... Rublev makes a great one. Thanks for watching!
