Oak Mountain is on my list! I am a MS peep and just started hiking seriously in March.

@chrissyt6959 it was a fun one. And that is awesome! It will be more fun after this heat goes away. Have you made it out to Noxubee Hills in Louiville, MS?
@chrissyt69593 ай бұрын
That is on my list and I actually was planning to try and go early one day in July for a bit. But I have heard the trails aren’t maintained now. Do you know if this is true?
@polesofdestinyhiking3 ай бұрын
@chrissyt6959 there maybe a small group of volunteers, but the main people doing it are not doing it right now because it's so hot. I'll be going soon and I can let you know the condition of the trail. Follow me on my Facebook and I'll pm you when I do

Those are great choices for budget friendly gear. I started out with that same Klymit pad and never had any issue with it. Did have an issue with a different model klymit. However, because I'm a little "older" I had to move to a thicker pad to comfort these bones. Glad you're going to do the Foothills Trail. I did that in 2021 and enjoyed it. I might go back one day and do it the other direction and take a little more time to enjoy it. I also plan to thru hike the Pinhoti whenever I have freedom to be gone for a few weeks. Stay cool! It's so freaking hot!

Hi there, I’m pretty sure that’s “Coal” - that’s what we called the dog we found at Clairmont Gap on 4/26. He hiked (or led) me and two friends 6+ miles to Adam’s Gap. We were thru hiking the Pinhoti and couldn’t take him with us to the hostel that night. The hostel owner from Talladega said she was pretty confident he had a home in the area. Especially because he had a collar and seemed clean and well cared for even though he was skinny. We were literally in tears to leave him because he’s such a sweet pup, but she told us that lots of people in the area have dogs that just roam and we hoped he’d find his way home. IDK if someone was missing him or if he had a microchip. I know he wasn’t neutered. If he was truly a lost pup, sounds like he’s lucky to have found a good home.
@polesofdestinyhiking4 ай бұрын
I got him checked for a chip and he did not have one. I can say he has a great home now! He has gotten so much bigger

That’s good to hear! All three of us were worried sick about him, we hated to leave him.

Hi. Just found your channel, and saw that you are from Mississippi. I am Ken Brenner and I live in the Ellisville, MS area. I am retired and we moved here from the Atlanta area (my wife is from Jones County). I have been hiking since 1972 and regularly since 1990 when we moved to the Birmingham area for my work. I have a channel showing mainly hiking but also travels, etc. My email address can be found in my channel. Would enjoy corresponding with you regarding hiking. God Bless!

Topos are not zero drop (apart from a couple of models) so they are not a good comparison for someone who uses Altras for the wide toe box AND zero drop!

The Topo Persuits are a zero drop version, I would say it's fair to compare that particular shoe to the Lone Peak 7

That is a good tent. People either love them or hate em. Just need to seam seal it and a can of silicone. The company had some quality issues on the 2.2 but they fixed them. They were very good about answering the phone when people called to complain which now gives them a good reputation in customer service.

Had Altra for 5 years. Switched to Topo pursuits 18 months ago.. Love them. Not going back to Altra. Topo has much better grip from sole and lasts twice as long. More arch support and better mid foot support... Better ankle lock, no rock plate but much better protection. Mid sole doesn't flatten as much over time. Altra feel like slippers, but get too soggy over time. But, you will notice a more arch support and mid foot hugging from topo. Plus topo doesn't feel tippy like Altra.
