As a practical matter, the 4th amendment doesn't matter once the neighborhood realizes there is a theft ring at 1234 Main St Apt 2. Couple of dudes were going around at night trying car doors and stealing from cars. Finally got spotted and were followed home. Apparently they had stolen from just about everyone including the apartment manager where they lived and life became "uncomfortable" living in an apartment complex filled with their victims who knew what they did . . . They moved out fast once their neighbors knew they were night thieves stealing from unlocked cars -suspect their car had "issues" like slashed tires etc. From personal experience, I confronted a suspected thief and he told me I had no proof. Not a problem I saw you on video, even if the police won't do anything, you are being evicted - good luck with reference calls for another apartment!

Always practise the knots on something thick like paracord. Knots are better than linelocks for all camping uses.

can you elaborate? Why would a knot be better than a linelock?

Sadly i regret my Grizl (AL) Even though it provided me with many great experiences. Ive had it for 1,5 years and put around 13.500km into it, ridden all-year round. And besides a few smaller gripes (Like ugly thru axles with handles), there are two big reasons why I cant recommend it: 1) the steerer size. I know that it was mentioned here, but my god. I didnt know that pretty much only Canyon and giant uses this. This means you have very limited options when it comes to: headcaps, Headsets, spacers, forks and stems. Especially stems are very important, because they are very individual. I had the misfortune, that my steerer tube was simply chaved, apparently from the upper Headset bearing rubbing (yes, everything was tightened down properly). Leaving a dent, which made the fork rattle and thus the size of the chaved area increased because the rattling created more friction. So, lets get that fork replaced asap i thought. Well, you cant find anything that fits. I checked many big online retailers, couldnt find a single fork. So, i Had to contact Canyon, which leads me to... 2) warranty only applies when you Bring your bike to a shop that is a Canyon Partner. In a City of 3million people and hundreds of Bike Shops, there are two, who are partnered with Canyon, and that althought i live in Europe where Canyon is more established. So ironically, choosing the giant Bike manufacturer Made me feel so much more Limited in my Options. When my Rose Bike needed fixing, i could simply get it to any Bike Shop and Just had to send them the bill. But it gets better, while I DO have to Credit Canyon that they stood by their warranty (fork was free to replace), it took about 7 weeks to replace it! Simply because of the unnecessary long Chain: i had to contact a very busy Shop (and it was offseason), Bring in Bike, Shop Checks it, shop contacts Canyon, Canyon Checks Case, Canyon sends parts, Bike Shop installs parts. And since they didnt have the color of my frame anymore, im now stuck with a fork that has a completely unfitting color and even a different Finish (Glossy instead of Matte). A fork I cant replace even If Id want to spend the Money out of my own pocket.

This is very similar to the tarp configuration i’ve used for almost 30 years. One bonus to this setup is that you can opt to mount it closer to the ground and pull the front wings closed at the pole. In the old days before i had a bivvy bag, this kept rain from blowing into my sleeping space. Five stars for adding the ridge line to suspend the bivvy cover. That might work really well for a mosquito net in warmer weather too. Thanks so much for this video!

How did you attach your Fenix light to the Blue ridge harness?
@TheEnduranceStudio9 күн бұрын
I used the Fenix BC26R with the ALD-10 mount extension www.fenixlighting.com/products/fenix-ald-10-quick-release-bike-mount-gopro-mount-adapter and a ROCKBROS Out Front Mount www.amazon.com/ROCKBROS-Front-Compatible-Garmin-iGPSPORT/dp/B0C3VMXDBQ/ref=asc_df_B0C3VMXDBQ?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80883013739956&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584482477843964&psc=1 with the mounts flipped (go pro style on top and garmin on bottom. This positions the light slight above and in front of the Blue Ridge top carbon bar. My garmin edge 1040 sits over the stem using the Garmin Edge Mountain Bike Mount www.amazon.com/Garmin-010-12563-02-Edge-Mountain-Mount/dp/B076HWFZRN/ref=asc_df_B076HWFZRN?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80333120120291&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583932699583209&th=1. I like a centered, low profile, tidy setup for these items. I hate a bunch of shit sitting high up and at risk of breaking off in a crash. That said, Rogue Panda now makes an accessory bar addition to their Blue Ridge harness where you could mount both a Garmin and the Fenix using the standard bar mount adapater. If you buy one tell them I sent you. roguepanda.com/products/blue-ridge-accessory-bar

I appreciate the simplicity of the knot system and that you practiced to be ready to use it in your conditions (tired, raining). I'm lucky enough to have practiced them thousands of times already! That said, if you added some features to the tarp, or found one that had them, you could avoid the knots if that doesnt jive for someone else. Linelocs on the corners and a grommet on the ridgeline would be knot free. I still recommend knowing the knots for flexibility. An example of UL and having the features to be knot free is the MSR Thru Hiker Wing 70 would be close to your solo size, 100 is a 2p version. Linelocs and grommets included, but also more expensive than yours.

Great video, especially the patient explanation of the knots and how you trained yourself to habitualize them. I’m considering using a tarp as a tent groundsheet to provide the flexibility of using just a tarp when needed for shelter, but keeping the tent for its coziness…

I'd suggest using a piece of tyvek for this purpose. its way more durable for a groundsheet than the silpoly tarp and could double as a tarp.

I appreciate the examination of the less-talked about legal side of airtags: that the police may not do anything. However, simply having an airtag gives you more information to work with regardless if the police can and will help you; for just $30 USD, that's a no-brainer to me. I've worked at a bike shop and have had someone (unsuccessfully) attempt to steal my bike before in one of the most bike-theft heavy cities in Canada. I would highly recommend *AGAINST* any kind of combination lock or cable lock: combinations are easy to decode and all cables (even armoured) are trivial to cut with cable/bolt cutters; Fortnine has a great video about breaking every kind of lock. At most they deter opportunistic thieves as the video mentions. The best bang for your buck are going to be D/U locks (as long as they don't have a spring-loaded locking bar; the Lockpicking Lawyer has a good video on this). Second best are chains: they're heavy af (for D/U lock thickness parity), but the added flexibility can come in handy. Lastly, angle grinder-resistant locks are the most secure, most expensive, and between the former two in weight: Litelok X1 & X3, Hiplok D1000, etc. If I only had to choose one (to save weight + money), it would be the X1.

In Alabama you have the right to pursue your property. We tracked a stolen iPhone to a persons house the police actually walked in and just took it from the people. we also were informed we have a right to pursue it ourselves … now we would have to be 100% right if we are wrong then we be in a lot of trouble. The device having precision location is all you need for probable cause. Wording is important… tracking a iPhone, the iPhone is reporting its location… tracking a bike is not.. say your air tag was stolen and your bike was stolen. The air tag can be then is in scope because it is reporting. You just happen to find a stolen bike with it.

My bike is a CruzBike recumbent that has front wheel drive. It takes several weeks to learn how to ride one and they are very rare in the world. Very unlikely that someone could hop on and ride away. It's like trying to steal a unicycle only better. My only worry is, they could have a pickup truck and just throw it in the back, so I also have an alarm. And for large stores, I use my cable lock.

It seems to be working because the police have told me that there are less bike theft reports since i started doing this.
