What's even sadder about that character is that people like him do exist. Shell Shock: they can be walking quietly down a river stream when suddenly they snap & they're back inside the trenches. Morrel's "First Blood" novel is loosely based on that.

I liked Lois and Clark seasons 3 and 4. Like you felt about Superboy in the later seasons, I felt they started hitting it and had improved tremendously by season 3. In fact the ratings for season 3 were the highest of all season. L&C Season 3 was fun to me and the writing really started getting good... And as we know like Superboy, L&C was abruptly canceled after the cast thought they were getting a Season 5. So that’s a parallel there for both shows.

Great interview. I wish you could have asked him more about the more recent interpretations and iterations of Superman in the last 10 years - from Henry Cavil to Tyler Hoechlin. Also, I would have loved to hear him talk about the big picture he took with Tom Welling, Dean Cain, and Tyler Hoechlin earlier this year I believe…. They took a big Superman picture and it was epic to see.. He also has a separate picture on his IG with Tom Welling. I know he talked about how he approached the Smallville producers in the early 2000s to write some episodes for them, but he said they rejected it because they didn’t want anything to do with the Superboy show before them. Wow. Would have loved to hear him talk more about that..

Mr Mxyxptlk should have been played by a little actor in live action because the character is written to be a little sized funny villain. They never use a little size actor in TV series. Don't know why they never do that. Howie Mandel is very funny and very charismatic but he wasn"t my cup of tea.

I was wondering which christmas episode you guys would pick. Between this and Seasons greetings Smallville "Lex-mas", Justice League "Comfort and Joy" Mxy-mas is one of the better episodes in season 4. I don't have a problem with this version of Mxy. So many classic villains weren't in the show like Bizarro, Parasite, and Brainiac. We are lucky they covered him at all.

Enjoyed this interview! I love hearing stories about the making of the show, and the challenges and process that went into making it. I would be on cloud nine if I had the chance to ask Gerard some questions. I also liked how casual the interview was, getting to hear stories from Gerard about his time on the show and before. I learned a few new things about the show and his career through this interview (I didn't know he auditioned for a John Travolta movie or that Travolta asked to be on the show!). Hopefully you guys can have him on again. It's rare to hear from any actors or other crew members that were on the show, so to have Gerard on was great. Maybe one day you guys could get Stacy Haiduk to make an appearance...

Yeah we hope to get Stacy on at some point for sure. Got so many questions to ask her. And yeah, hearing that John Travolta wanted to be on Superboy, but the producers didn't let him, is kinda nuts. Fascinating that it didn't happen. Seems like a no-brainer.

That was great!! So good to see and hear Gerard again, looking amazing! I was born into a George Reeves Superman world, and still have 2 boxes of DC Silver Age comics...Batman, Superman, Detective, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, Action, Adventure. With the name Bruce Wayne I was destined to be a Batman fan, at least! I got to experience all the TV and Film Super Hero "firsts" as I grew older...and was thrilled to see my Superboy comics "come to life!" I was lucky to have gotten into The Biz in the 70s and was working at Disney Studios then, procuring interesting props in California for Disney Florida. When I called to discuss things, I would get the latest gossip of what was happening on the Superboy set! Such a kick! And, yes...Fun! I'm glad Gerard had Fun! That is important in Everything. I Left The Biz when it was no longer Fun to me. Even now I miss the Good times, the Fun...and the Money! I'm always telling people to Have Fun...No One, on their Deathbed, Ever said 'Damn...I had Too Much Fun!' 😊😊 I too have stories...of working with Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Barbra Streisand, Whoopi Goldberg, Art Carney, Patty Duke, Peter Ustinov, Michele Pfeiffer, The Muppets...and more! So many memories that I'm finally writing a book about those years! At a brief standstill, trying to find my cast and crew photo from "St. Elsewhere!" 😊 There Will be Many photos!! Again...Thank You to Gerard for sharing His time so generously! ^^X^^

I apologize for this long comment. You'll need Superboy's reading speed for it. 😅 I feel sorry for being away from the Superboy fandom for so long. My mom passed away last year after a long illness. Losing her, along with some other challenging stuff, drained me for years. I didn't have the energy for my hobbies, like keeping up with my fansites. I'm hoping to get back on track in the new year. That being said, this interview is excellent! You guys did a terrific job as hosts. And you let your guest speak. That’s so important. I will definitely pin this on my YT page and post it on the website I have for Gerard. Gerard looks wonderful. I love the set up in his room and that he has his own mannequin. I would love for Gerard to be part of a Superman project again. A role in the next Superman film would be fantastic. I loved Ron Ely as the elder Superman, he was perfect in the role. If he didn't play Tarzan, he could've played Superman in his younger years. Body Swap was really fun! I love how Gerard hammed it up the way Sherman would as Lex Luthor. It's so cool to hear Gerard's thoughts behind "Wish for Armageddon." At some point, I imagine Superboy would have to get involved on the world stage. I love learning the tidbits about Kevin Kiner's theme and Eckworth Industries. I have asked the same question as Gerard in years! Why wasn’t he ever cast in any Subsequent Superman project? I really wanted him to be in Crisis on Infinite Earths! I remember looking for Superboy merchandise during those TV years; all we had were the great comic books, and that only lasted about 22 issues. The Internet definitely helped with merchandising and the popularity of everything. It’s amazing. I’ve been “fangirling” many things since the late 90s and creating websites and fan pages for older shows I loved. It’s been fun. There was no reason for Superboy to end; it was perfect and popular, and it got better every season! I love hearing Gerard’s story about Lois and Clark; this was the best retelling yet! Lol. Tom’s joke about the Multiverse was hilarious! I liked Lois and Clark, Loved Teri as Lois, and really liked Dean Cain, but I didn’t love the show as a whole and wasn't into it much by season 3. His comments on Directors and filming were interesting. The casting process sounds very tough! I always learn something new when I read or hear his interviews. I really enjoyed Cat and Mouse. I had forgotten Gerard wrote that! So cool. I liked his villain character in Wish for Armageddon; he was so interesting. It’s great to hear the backstory of his inspiration. I always loved the episode with Vic and wanted to see him again. I also appreciated how they used both super suits! It was a wonderful touch.

That was funny about the Superman fan! As you can see, Gerard is my favorite of all the Supermen! And I agree! Visually, Seasons 3 & 4 were a lot like The Flash! A crossover would’ve been amazing. I’ll add that to my fanfiction list if I ever write one again for Superboy. My Superboy connection is that I discovered Superboy season 1 when I was 8 years old on NBC on a Saturday afternoon and was completely hooked. It jumped around on syndication and when I found it again, Gerard was in the lead in season 2 in the episode "Nightmare Island." I developed the biggest schoolgirl crush and became a Superboy fan for life! You can see a picture of one of Gerard's mannequins on my website, too! It's gorgeous.

9:01 - That has always bothered me a little too. Increasing someone's intelligence doesn't mean they instantly know everything there is to know. But I like the explanation that Tom presented that she can now remember everything she has ever heard or learned in the past. And I guess if a formula can give you psychokinetic powers capable of destroying the world, it's probably not a stretch that it could give you a bunch of knowledge you didn't have before!

Tracy Roberts did an incredible job playing Darla. A great thing about the Salkind productions is they gave new actors their small break in the business as well as second chances for previous big names. Hackman's Luthor wasn't as well defined on his relationship with Miss Tessmacher. Sherman's Lex was clearly involved with Darla giving him an extra level of seediness because she looked much younger and dumber than him.

Ah thanks for doing this one gents, really enjoyed this! I remember when I was a kid growing up in the 90's, I was at a car boot sale and came across a video cassette titled: Superman II. It was in a cardboard packaging, but couldn't help noticing the cartoon design and the runtime. Anyway, I brought it off the girl for 20p! I had no idea what it was about as the cover had a modern design at the time. When I got home and watched it, I was surprised to see that it was a 40's Max Fleischer production. I had no idea that this existed!! This episode, nonetheless, really stood out to me, not to mention the detailed drawings and animation. Thanks again guys! Superman & Lois has a good idea on why Clark doesn't end up with Lana where after years of training at The Fortress he finds out she has moved on with someone else. The god awful ending of their relationship in Smallville with her absorbing kryptonite. That was probably a three season love story that lasted seven seasons too long.
@SuperboyBeyond
@SuperboyBeyond 3 ай бұрын
couldn't agree more, we are gonna go with a bronze age Lana to try and avoid some of that, i like the idea that she isn't the love interest anymore, but still an important person to Clark. She'll have more to do when we eventually reach the Morgan Edge vs Prankster episode. Since she now works for Edge's news network. All elements taken from the comics. (I don't remember what issue number it is, but if you ever find an issue where Prankster is targetting Morgan Edge, trying to kill him, while Edge is in hospital, that's the basis for that particular episode. It's a ways off though. We have "World's Finest" and the two parter "Roads of Steel" to do first.) In a few weeks we are trying a new format which you might like though. We take two episode titles from Superboy, combine them, then come up/improvise a story to fit it. The first of these is a two-parter. "Run, Microboy, Run." and "Scream, Microboy Scream." It was a fun episode to record as neither of us came to it with an initial idea. But i think we have a pretty fun concept. Thanks again for watching!

I was tempted to include Routh, Cavill and Hoechlin. But i am sticking to the slightly dumb idea that only things pre-1993 can be referenced or used in episodes. Hope you enjoyed the story though, it's just fan fiction, so maybe i should just abandon that rule i set for myself. But it's kinda fun to always have to filter casting choices through an early 90s lens lol Thanks again for watching!

While Tarzan originated as a pulp novel character, with over 24 books written by Edgar Rice Burroughs (and new ones still being written), he has appeared continually in comic books and newspaper strips since the 1930s. Ely brought nobility to the role of Tarzan. And in terms of sheer filmed hours, 57 episodes, he played the character longer than any other actor. It is a series well worth checking out. If you want to watch his DOC SAVAGE, avoid the official release and watch the fan edit The Detarnished Edition.
