A lav mic should me a nice improvement. Do these cats have worse lights than the ones you had in Sweden as there seems to be much less visibility outside? Anyways thanks for the videos, it's been a bit funny timing watching these on the northern hemisphere.

I have got one in later videos (coming up) because of the vibration coming through the mic, it’s much clearer. And yeah the lights in the old 400’s aren’t as bright as the ones in the new 600’s so the videos are a bit darker, but I’m working on trying to expose the videos better.

lol snow season ends this weekend, can't remember it ever winding up in 'winter' before. Typical list organisation they are still charging for lift prices at 50% off, with one run open if you can call a goat track a run. Please go back overseas :)
@pushnpow
@pushnpow Ай бұрын
Hey hey hey, I’m grooming that one goat track 😂 and it takes me 7 hours of carting snow with a bin cat just to get the one pass to the load 😅. Nah it has been a rubbish season, it’s going to hit the resort hard too, I believe they have to refund a portion of the season passes and a lot of school and club bookings for September so I guess they’re trying to recoup any loss they can. I see both sides, it sucks for the customer and it sucks for the resort, we got screwed by water restrictions early and screwed by warm, windy weather later, she’s been a rough season. I should be heading to Norway in November if all goes to plan anyway.

Mt Buller height 1805m Snow Depths 78 cm top (1780 m) 36 cm base (1380 m) Damn looks like it's going to be a short season. I always used to joke they took the reading at the top of the mountain and shoveled some snow up against the depth gauge to make it sound better. I find it interesting how you manage the snow, you push it around to make runs wider more of a consistent depth trying to keep the base intact. You guys are well skilled at your work.
@pushnpow
@pushnpow Ай бұрын
In the northern hemisphere you generally get really spoilt for snow and don’t have to try to hard to open a slope. In the southern hemisphere, mainly Australia and New Zealand, you really have to be strategic with snow management. It’s been a particularly warm winter, it happens every now and then, it just means we have to work smarter and manage the snow better.
@JohnWizz
@JohnWizz Ай бұрын
so maybe a silly question, but how are the snow depth maps generated?
@hvy1ton
@hvy1ton Ай бұрын
It's mapped by GPS every time a cat drives over the snow. The basemap is generated by a GPS rover. The basemap only needs updated if the underlying terrain changes significantly.
@pushnpow
@pushnpow Ай бұрын
As above it can be mapped by GPS rover or aerial drone mapping. I believe our slopes are a mix of drone mapping and rover mapping because of the wooded areas and whatnot. It’s fairly accurate though, very handy for operators doing their first season here (like me)

I just had a question on what you think of the steering wheel or “yoke” compared to the sticks ?
@pushnpow

I prefer sticks, but the yoke isn’t terrible. Sticks are better for precise work close to buildings or objects but yokes are pretty good for general grooming.

That’s alright, I’m barely a New Zealander anyway. I worked with an Englishman in New Zealand who previously worked for a Swedish resort and one of his friends from that resort got a managers job at another resort and needed a winch operator for the winter… then covid happened that winter so I ended up stuck in Sweden for 3 years. The ski industry is great for international networking, it takes you all over the place.
