Switching fuel tanks right before takeoff is a TERRIBLE idea that will get you killed. If the fuel is contaminated, the engine won't quit immediately, it will take somewhere between 30-60s of high power operation, ie. you will get an engine failure at 300ft AGL. Instead of doing that, start and taxi on the less full tank, then for runup, switch to the other one, and don't touch it again before takeoff. This way, you will have tested both tanks and have the best chance of not dying.
@PilotSavvy

Thank you for sharing your comments Barblargh. Point well taken. I will add it to my bag of Pilot Savvy safety Hacks. I am all in on aviation safety and have remained safe by following FAA and aircraft manufacturer mandates and recommendations plus any words of wisdom from Flight Instructors, other pilots such as yourself, and tricks that I have learned on my own over the years. Taking fuel samples from the wing tanks and the fuel sump before each flight and after each re-fueling has kept the engine running for me with no contamination regardless of what tank I select. My reasoning does not invalidate your reasoning. If fuel contamination is present, the worse time for it to manifest is while the aircraft is low and slow with not many options. Let me know what the Pilot’s Operating Handbook for your aircraft says about the before takeoff fuel tank selection. Keep the dirty side down.
@barblargh
@barblargh 11 ай бұрын
@@PilotSavvy The POH usually just talks about selecting the fullest tank before start, and doesn't call for changing it for runup, which is not optimal, but still safer than right before takeoff. The technique I listed above comes from a CFI with some 50 years experience that checked me out in the DA40.

Hi Barblargh. Thanks for the follow-up comment. You can hardly go wrong taking advice from Flight instructors. It is always wise to consult with a Flight instructor for advice on flight procedures. I have been molded by Flight Instructors going back to my first introductory flight in 1980. The most important thing that I have learned is to know where to find the information on how to operate safely and to safely utilize all available resources. @@barblargh

Thank you for commenting. I have yet to fly a DA-50RG in real world flying. It took a while before I could even get a operaters manual. It still apear extreamely long. Let me know where I can find a simplified checklist that I can use for a quick startup, taxi and takeoff. The one that I extracted from the manual does the job but I have seen real world KZbin recordings where the pilot has a checklist that fits on a 2 sided card.

Hello Abdullah_q8171, Thank you for reaching out. I am sorry to hear that you are encountering technical issues with your number pad functionality with your flight simulator. I am sure that we can resolve the issue. Make sure that number lock is on. I use the hat switch on my yoke to point to point to the view that I want then save it with the number pad or the full keyboard by holding down the control key on the full-size keyboard and pressing and releasing the desired number key while still holding down the control key then release it. Once the view is saved you can use either the number pad or the full keyboard to select the saved view. Occasionally USB devices may stop working momentarily. You may have encountered this issue with your mouse or full-size keyboard or other devices. On your PC desktop the solution may be to simply disconnect and re-connect the USB device. In the flight sim environment, you may need to re-start the simulator. I hope that this response is helpful. Let me know the results.

I started of with MSFS 94 many years ago. Stayed with MS until 2018, which time i transition over to xplane. I went back to MS MSFS 2020 after they updated their system. Now Im waiting on MSFS2024.

I used pretty much all of the versions of microsoft up to and including MSFS X. I spent time and money to migrated to X-Plane after microsoft abandonded the flight sim community so I have not been in a rush to return. I do recognize that the new MSFS has made leaps and bounds compared to where I left off and they have some realy great graphics. I am in no way boycotting MSFS. I may re-visit it one day.
