I grew up watching Hee Haw and was raised in Tulsa where Roy lived and died. He was such a magical human. So incredibly talented and no ego. Just warmth and love.

Square dances in Washington. We’ve come a long way, and all in the wrong direction. Makes me homesick for my country.

Thanks for that interview. Listening to interviews with guys who are masters helps me to get over more of the fears of playing that have held me back, and I am 67 years old and still dealing with overcoming those threats. I play every week in the church band nowdays. I feel safe there. The Holy Spirit gives me the music, and I give it back the very best I can do. I will be listening to this interview over and again. Thanks Roy for what you are teaching me. Thanks Jesus. I like what Roy AND HIS DAD said, don't close your ears or heart....

So what was tragic about that? Sounds like a very good talented life. Some of these idiot KZbin titles should be taken with a grain of salt.

Van Halen was one of the best guitar players in the world. He was once asked who is the greatest guitar player. The announcer hoping he would say his name, Van Halen announced I don t know---you would have to ask Roy Clark !!!! RIP Roy

Weird cause the first time I remember was my grandfather playing with banjo and guitar and getting ready to play a SquareDance on yhe weekend. He did that alot of weekends. Oh yeah and our last name is also Clark and we were just really poor farmers.

Wonderful conversation, and wonderful insight! And props to the interviewer too! Thoughtful questions, and he actually let the interviewee express himself.

His genius as an instrument player is no greater than his showmanship in front of an audience. He was a natural in that field.

Take your ego out of the picture and only show Roy. I see it's only important to have yourself seen more than Roy.

By the time of this interview Roy was having memory issues and was recalling answers and anecdotes in a random and non-sequential manner. In order to piece together his answers without constant and obvious edits in his facial movement and mannerisms, many cut to my reactions were used over the edited audio.

A, I've seen Roy Clark in person, twice. I count myself lucky. B, i come from a family where my grandparents had 9 kids and it was a rule of the house that everyone learned to play an instrument. My mother chose the piano... In my living room I have the piano my grandfather gave my grandmother as a wedding p..resent at the turn of the century. A Karn and Co. upright in figured walnut, made in 1893. I miss the family concerts

Roy Clark is an American Icon who was so talented he appeared on Mayberry RFD and The Beverly Hillbillies in the 60's. He's a Pioneer as a Musician, but also the first to merge Hollywood and Musicians (okay, i'm wrong, the Benny Goodman story appeared earlier). I'd say that's a Bittersweet Accomplishment...Hee Haw. Kudos and God Bless to Roy's surviving family members...R E S P E C T.

Steve was a Garden Grove boy. I lived there in the 70's and bought my banjo from the same guy he bought his banjos from. I REALLY wish I could have interacted with him! He's a much better banjoist than he lets on. Sigh.

The only thing I did not like about the interview is how short it was. I could hear Steve for hours. I read his comedy book and was deeply fascinated by it. He is an intellectual and it shows. He treated comedy as an experiment. He treated acting as an experience of the mind. He's extremely analytical and layered as a person. It's clear that Steve keeps a private life but when he reveals parts of himself, you see the vulnerability and thinking that goes into his every day life.
