This seems like a non-issue. Even if there is a slight gap in the plastic, the red rubber seal is still in position. Furthermore, if the camera is used inside the plastic mounting frame (and you need the frame to mount the camera to anything, even a handle for hand holding) that will keep everything sealed tightly. I've yet to hear of anyone actually having their camera ruined by water as a result of this problem.
@trik-video5 күн бұрын
@brianhawkins It is an issue. A cover should not be opened if the button is not pressed. Period! I found it detached in my ppcket. Imagine being on a boat or on the beach and accidentally have it to open and fall off. Should you check your camera every time you are near water? And the mounting frame only protects the battery door, not the usb c door.

Just talked to the DJI support and they said it is a feature and not a bug. They said that the door was designed to be waterproof, if you don't see red parts. The correct way to open it is by pressing the button, but it can also slide without touching the button, to make it easier for people to open it. "Perception of force is different from person to person", as they said. As my door is not easy to open without pressing the button, I was not proposed a new one.
@trik-videoАй бұрын
@8AUMA8 Yeah, I got the same answer. Honestly, I don't believe it's a feature, a door like that should not be opened without pressing the button, period. I presume it is very difficult for them to change the production now and they probably have these faulty doors on every camera. Interestingly, the Osmo 4 doesn't have this "feature". The whole door drama would be somewhat ok I guess if the cage that is provided with the camera covers the usb c door. But it doesn't, it leaves it totally exposed and prone to accidental openings. It's a real shame to have a camera that good with a weakness like that. It will always bug me when I'm out and about....
@8AUMA8Ай бұрын
@@trik-video Yes, you are completely right. And also right about the case. They should have thought about it on a waterproof camera like this. The rest is so well designed and sturdy. Hopefully they will fix this door problem in the future and will send new ones for free... Just saw on the Internet that replacement USB-C covers are pretty expensive and out of stock everywhere. Should be sorted in the near future with aftermarket ones popping up here and there... PS: Regarding the "feature", I was making fun of DJI, they didn't use that term but it was more or less their point... 😅

@trik-videoАй бұрын
@NickHaigh True. How is the new cover, does it open easily or do you have to push the button hard? My battery door opens if I push the button but it slides open very easily, I hope the covers on the new camera will be difficult to open...
@NickHaighАй бұрын
@ the new replacement door works perfectly, as it should. It is locked into place until you press the button. This also should be the case when the door is not attached I.e. you shouldn’t be able to move the inner section freely without pressing the lock button first.

This is definitely a design flaw. Imagine snorkeling with the camera attached to one of those floating selfie sticks. You're using one hand to hold the stick while swimming, and as you move your arm to propel yourself through the water, the camera is being swept along at the same speed. This puts a lot of pressure on the door, and I simply can’t trust it to hold up in that situation. Now imagine losing all your travel footage because of a leak-that’s a risk I just can’t take, no matter how good the camera might be otherwise. Sure, DJI might replace the camera if you have Care Refresh, but they can’t replace your footage, and that’s what truly matters. Everything I’ve seen from DJI suggests it’s a good company, but I’m not sure how they could address this issue. Even if the problem stems from the door being forced open at some point, it shouldn’t be that easy to happen. This isn’t an issue I’ve experienced with any of my other action cameras, including the GoPro and the Ace Pro 2. If you don't use the camera in these types of situations, it will likely be fine.
@trik-videoАй бұрын
@TimBrownTown That's what I'm trying to say, it's a risk not worth taking. Even if you don't use it underwater or in rain and snow, at some point you will come across a situation where the camera should be sealed. I believe it can be fixed simply by changing the cover. It is a latch flaw, not the cover design. There is another youtuber who got some better shots than me, showing the latch itself. I can't remember his name but it's easily googable if anyone wants to see it. We'll see how this drama plays out, my vamera is packed and ready to be shipped back to DJI tomorrow. From their correspondence so far, I am very pleased with their customer support👌

You should always have the camera in the frame supplied by Dji. That protects the USB C flap as well as the battery door flap. Compared to the original osmo action 1 ( takes some force to open) the action 5 doors are easier to open. The protective frame is there for a reason. Doors are not faulty. Frame is also there to help protect the camera from accidentally drops
@trik-videoАй бұрын
@stanvisualseychelles932 The doors are faulty as shown, the button does not secure them from opening. As for the protective case, I always keep the camera in it. However, the casing protects the battery cover but the usb c cover is left unprotected. It came off in my pocket while the camera was in the case.

clearly you forced opening it (i can see how hard u get it to open without pressing). it is intuitive that you press the button to slide it. they wanted to get the unit to see if you have compromised the seal. never had a problem. should have stayed with go pro then
@trik-videoАй бұрын
It looks to be forced opened because it was difficult to do it in front of the camera catching focus. In addition, I had freshly cut nails 😂 If you put your nail between the camera and the cover, it slides open without any force at all. This can be seen when I took the cover off and slid the seal back and forth.

Hi @trik-video, thank you for your feedback. This design was created by our engineers to better balance the user's opening and closing experience, and it has passed waterproof reliability tests. Please be reminded that the correct way to open the cover is to press the unlock button before pushing it open. We do not recommend directly pushing the cover open, as this may damage the unlocking mechanism. We understand that everyone has different perceptions of force. If you have any issues while using the device, please feel free to cotact our service support. We will be more than glad to assist. Thanks.

Thank you for your response! I contacted DJI support, I'm waiting for the courier service to come and pick up the package to be sent to DJI. The camera is brand new, some 2 weeks old so the flaw on the cover isn't due to bad handling, it's just the way it was designed. The latches are obviously poorly made. This video wasn't made as a criticism to DJI, it was an honest warning to Osmo 5 users to check before it's too late.
