His voice is more fitting for this song, he sounds much more vengeful and malicious than Matt.

Haven’t listened to this version in a long time but I always loved the contrast of Stu to Matt on this. Such an eventful masterpiece of a track and while I personally give the nod to the original version, there are so many little cool subtleties that make this version badass. There’s things missing but things added that give it it’s own identity in the conversation and allow it to breathe a bit on its own. It’s wicked. Sty’s whispered layerings behind key spots and his delivery of the outro are epic.

Important note of context for some of the changes. They do not normally have a keyboardist on tour which was one of the main things keeping them from playing the song on tour and only playing for special occasions like Alive in Athens where they has a keyboardist. They intentionally got rid of some some of the things so they have a version that they don't need a keyboardist for so it could sound mostly right as an option in a standard tour.

Dynamic range compression. Typical loudness war bullshit, Stu might have been decent but not with this post-processing. Unfortunately this kind of editing is trendy and is why most modern music and remasters sound like shit.

Stu's vocals sound a bit.....dramatic I guess would be the term I'm looking for....for me. I really wish, since they weren't able to keep Matt Barlow, I wish they'd been able to get Tim Owens back. Since their "falling out," if you could call it that, happened back in late '07, maybe they could patch things up. As much a fan as I am of the Barlow era, Framing Armageddon is my over all favorite Iced Earth Album.

Iced Earth is the only band that can remake a song three times and have the quality go from bad to great to bad again. No thanks, this is absolutely disappointing. What a cluster fuck of unnecessary reworked riffs and off beat vocal melodies.

Production here is much better than in the original. However, and although Stu is a great singer, Matt's voice just makes it sublime.

The production sucks here. It's like it was mastered for $8 earbuds with no respect for decent sound systems. Are you even familiar with the original? The remaster with Barlow's vocals sucks, and that might be what you're comparing this to. The remaster has no dynamic range, much like this version. At that point with all the dynamic range gutted it's just your preference for vocalist or subtle tone changes but the original is in a whole other class above the remaster and this version IMO. It's not even a competition. The real release actually had good production quality. Remaster kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJjEh2qXibOphZY Original kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2LJf3xmp7qJf7s There's so much post processing in this version that I don't even know if Stu is any good. All I know is I hate the overall sound of this version, but while the bit at 14:45 here is intense it's also lacking compared to the original. Between the remaster and this version though I think this moment sounds better here vs the shitty remaster so by remaster standards maybe this sounds good but IMO the original wins by a mile every time. This just sounds like it's coming out of shit laptop speakers or something.

Chilling song, especially towards the end and love the keyboard outro. Not Barlow good but solid. "Imagine a place, where every horror comes to life. Where every torture is real and time stands still. Eight fiery steps and we're closer to the end.."

Wow, I never heard this. Completely managed to miss it when it happened! It's not perfect, but I love it. Burnt Offerings is one of my favorite Iced Earth albums and I think this version sort of lacks the venom and anger that's almost palpable on the entire original's album. Stu is a great replacement for Barlow though. I saw them live again this week, and it rekindled my hunger for Iced Earth~
