What has Jim Pattisson to do with Canfor? Does he own them too ?

Unfortunately John the system is broken, and by that I mean the entire system. The whole way of consumption based taxations now inhibits everything . Government has no incentive to create a climate where businesses or people for that matter can be profitable to pay taxes. Government has for decades now taken the easy way out. After 40 years or so and 100 billion dollars in total BC government debt one would think a change in course is not only required but inevitable, but fools dream on about the utopian socialist state…. Until your money runs out and the banks show up. BCs time is coming.

Canfor will not benefit by selling their mills to you. By closing their mills they can squeeze their contractors and employees to lower their costs. Also with fewer operating sawmills in the province they are in a position to manipulate stumpage rates to get lower log costs. By playing games now jimmy pattison through canfor will suffer a short term loss but end up with a huge long term gain. This is because we will end up with fewer operating mills needing to buy wood. With no competition canfor can dictate prices. Jimmy pattisons business history does not show him to be a caring human being who looks after his employees and communities interests. In reality it’s quite the opposite.

You are totally misreading the situation. Canfor is not playing cost or stumpage games this time around. They are packing up their toys and leaving the province because policies implemented by a leftist provincial government have made it almost impossible to run an industrial business that is even remotely competitive to almost everywhere else in the world. Old growth deferrals, massive stumpage fees, uncertainty over( and infighting) whether First Nations now own everything due to the implementation of UNDRIP are just a few of the main reasons why things are shutting down. U.S. tariffs aren't helping either. BTW, I'm a logger in Houston who has just been laid off indefinitely because our mill and now Vanderhoof are closing. I'm not a Canfor fan (never have been) but this one is on Eby and his socialist idealogues, not Canfor.

Thankyou John, BC, after the election will hopefully find ways to save and improve this historic industry. If left in the hands of the NDP, the industry will join the dodo bird and the wooly mammoth. Bring on the Conservative party, get this worked out.

Canada has become so completely uncompetitive because of horrible federal government policies and in British Columbia the socialist NDP, that it’s no surprise corporations are running away to other countries.

I think some companies aversion to value added products like yours and others is an issue. Most companies find it difficult to step outside their box. Bountiful harvesting just doesn’t seem to be in the cards from my view. Probably should be looking into incorporating fiber with a hydrocarbon but again that’s value added not harvesting and sizing.

Good interview. Mr. Brink knows what it takes, knows what he has, and knows what he wants. A surefire way of getting it done. BC is lucky to have this man. It would be great if more men and women with knowledge and good attitude could step up and run this country...

The timber should be tied to the community or put up for open bid if there is no local mill to process it. Our forests definitely need a fresh look as to how we manage them which allows for these rural communities to not only remain but thrive.

Let's stop shipping our raw Logs to China for processing. Can we bring back the value of processing our lumber here. Skeena saw mills went bankrupt and was in operations over 50 years, and it's a turn key operation. Bring it back.
