I never heard that the Tudors had boats bring spice to England! I don't believe that's correct!!!!

I'd love to do this, but my kitchen is the size of a postage stamp. I'ven ever seen wassail when made before and had no idea that it was as thick as that. But I certainly would love to try it someday. That and christmas pudding. That isn't something readily available here in the States, so it would need to be made and probably would be far better for it, as anything you buy processed already has more chemicals and preservatives and GMO in it than anything that is real. It's a damn shame that they discovered that 99% of all our food over here is now tainted with micro plastics and polymers and that there is nothing that can be done about it since it is pervasive throughout our entire food chain. Now that we're actually losing longevity for the first time, suffering all kinds of cancers, homrone issues, and what not, we can honestly say we understand why. But the weatlhy have to make increasing amounts of profit, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Heck, it's even in our organic food now as well, so at least we're all going to suffer for our love of plastics equally.

MAM....everyone knows that to make sure the ginger bread does not stick to your hands or pans they used FLOUR!!! That is the most obvious solution and easy and cheap. Most of what the Tudor were eating and cooking might be weird for British people nowadays BUT many of these same dishes are still being eaten in many other places in the eastern world especially Middle east where most of the spices and dried fruits were traded to Europe from. Today in many north African and middle eastern countries they still made pies with meat and dried fruits all the times. Middle easterners even still maintained many food culture and recipes that they cook during ROMAN times! The English or British only started to changed their habits of cooking and eating BECAUSE OF THE FRENCH. The French shaped all culinary and food culture of western Europe. What many European eats today influence a lot from French cuisine especially during the Victorian era.

This just came up on my YT feed today in 2024. I watched it all and loved every minute. Great job. Loved seeing Ms. Kathy playing another character. Adore her as Mrs Crocombe. Appreciated the bits of history interspersed with the recipes.

I agree with Dinah. If people become interested in the carving of stone or wood or painting, they may have found a trade to expand upon. Additionally, they are helping preserve history and enhancing tourism. This is very inspiring to me. Thank you for all you've done. Take care and Happy Holidays, DA

40:08 actually you've got that wrong. Fat, and a lot of it, is actually HEALTHY for you. Good kinds of fat, like animal fat, butter, olive oil, avocados, eggs, etc. NOT canola or vegetable oils, etc. Don't listen to the low fat diet people, they're EXTREMELY wrong and very unhealthy. You need a better understanding of animal fats. ;)

I first went to Lundy back in 1966 with a group of friends. We sailed from Bideford on the Lundy Gannet. We met Mr Harman at the Marisco Tavern, and he asked us to play for him and his wife on their anniversary. Idyllic place, happy memories.
