I have contemplated this myself during my empath/narcissist paradigm research, the last couple of years. I agree with your assessment. Most people who question if they are the narcissist in a situation, usually aren't the narcissist. People who can recognize their tendencies, and actively balance those reactions, aren't usually the narcissist. Narcs do not see anything wrong with their behavior. Discernment is necessary.

Yes, it's the continual decision making to remember our Good Nature that keeps me out of those entanglements. And it actually helps me see how conditions (incl. people) aren't necessary to trust or rely on in any way, shape, or form. At this point, I increasingly have no interest in what people's narratives are unless they are Supportive and Life-giving. Otherwise, I know to float on by freely lol

On a walk yesterday, at the end, on some roads I have traveled many times, I remembered an expression I thought of on that walk, those who survive look at the road so they don't trip, they focus on the path and where to go, while those who live look at the world around them, they walk the road to appreciate the beauty of the forest, and know that wherever they go and step, is where they are meant to be, they are not worried about stepping on something, or tripping, because they trust that it's gonna be okay.. so I did just that, and it was *beautiful,* I walked the rest of that road, appreciating the forest around me, the fields in the distance and just took in the wonderful experience that was walking in the woods, it was wonderful, and all I had to do was look up, instead of focusing on my feet
