I am using topaz gigapixel for upscaling images, best in my opinion (used 4 different solutions and this one works best for me). Works with old Public Domain images, new images, and AI generated. Depending what exactly you want to upscale there are different settings to choose. This is a paid software, but you pay only once. Great things about this is that you can upscale batches of images. There are more programs from topaz, as gigapixel does only upscaling, topaz photo ai does a lot of things and upscaling, but costs more (in terms of upscaling is equally as effective as gigapixel, I have both, and run a comparison on both with the same settings). I would suggest if you can, to hold off to November with purchase, as usually they are 30-40% cheaper - Black Friday sales. Links are below, both links are affiliate links - which means that if you make a purchase, I will get a small commission at no addditional cost to you (third link is direct, bypassing affiliate links). Gigapixel AI - Image Upscaler - NO subscriptions! 1 time payment rebrand.ly/gigapixel Topaz Photo AI - Denoise, Sharpen, Upscale, Recover Faces, Remove Objects, Preserve Text, Adjust Lighting, Balance Color - NO subscriptions! 1 time payment rebrand.ly/photoai Direct link (NON AFFILIATE): www.topazlabs.com/gigapixel I will record a video about the upscalers, but it might take some time. On top of that, you can try using Photoshop for upscaling (works fine with double upscale of PD images, will not recommend more than x2), or online based upscalers if this is one off image. Economically, it is better to buy and pay 1 time, provided that you will use it multiple times. Online based upscalers, are usually subscription based, and credit based, upscaling takes a lot of processing power, and they are quality wise great/similar (in some cases not so great), but if it comes to wait times, they are not great, and with option to upscale 100+ images, topaz software does it no problem overnight vs doing it 1 by 1 using online based, and it might turn up, that you will pay, upscale and there will be a lot of "fluf/unwanted objects" added, having said that AI is galloping, and it becomes cheaper, so it might eventually become cheaper to do it via internet browser. Topaz suite is getting frequent updates, and they are constantly developing this software, creating new models, that use less and less of processing power. Upscaling supersmall image x8, will not get you anywhere, whether you are using topaz or online based upscaler. Having said that, I have been upscaling images (photographs of old paintings) downloaded from wikipedia using topaz, and they came out great. Hope it helps.

So just to verify, we can or cannot use for commercial purposes? Like editing the picture slightly and using as a book cover for Amazon KDP? Trying to figure out whether, as a public domain circumstance, I can use them to sell in my book covers - the feee version. Thanks…for the video.

You can. When you are on the image page on rawpixel, just below the image name/title, you have licence info. In Green - Public Domain, followed by "Free CC0 image for Personal and Business use", and just below "Info", there is a hyperlink explaining the licence. If you see that you are safe. All of the images that I have come across on raw pixel (under Public Domain tab), they had it. Thanks.

@TheCreatorSynergy
@TheCreatorSynergy 3 ай бұрын
Their upscaler is not efficient. I've hardly ever used their upscaler, much more prefer the topaz suite for this, also with topaz you can set it overnight and do a whole batch of images, sometimes I do 400 in one go. And there is only 1 time fee. Affiliate link to topaz: www.topazlabs.com/gigapixel/ref/1960/ Non-affiliate link to topaz: www.topazlabs.com/gigapixel They had a sale recently 30% off, so it might still be on. Love clipdrop for many tools, but upscaling is not one of them. Having said that, the background removal tool is great to compare with the others. I've tested many background removal tools, and majority of these tools have alawys size constraints, but also, do not remove some image areas that are not visible right on the screen (you have to overlay it and apply stroke to see what was removed vs what wasn't, and there is a lot of fluf that stays). Clipdrop's files are way better quality (and no fluff), but new tools are poping out every week, so there is probalby something better already.

This is a very helpful video. Just to be sure, so the two sites you gave us in the description, we can use all the oldies music from 1900 to 1922 without getting Copyrigt Claim from KZbin?
@TheCreatorSynergy
@TheCreatorSynergy Жыл бұрын
In theory, Yes. In practice, any site that you are uploading Public Domain works might give you a Copyright strike, and especially KZbin. Although if you set that the video can be viewed only in the Countries where the Copyright of the work expired you should be able to monetize it in that particular Country. I've had a YT channel back in 2015, where I was publishing Copyright Free/Public Domain audiobooks read by volunteers, and I was getting Copyright strikes, as far as I remember all the strikes came from Europe, and not from States, however after about 18 months, my channel was closed, due to too many strikes, even though I have asnwered all of the strikes, with links to the materials, and other statements, and all of them were accepted and positively reviewed, and the strikes were cancelled by the other party and KZbin themselves, all the content on my channel was deleted by YT.

@@TheCreatorSynergy Hmm, that's actually hard work to know about countries where the rights have expired. Copyrigt Claim is a common occurrence, and it freaks me out. Some countries support "Public Domain" and some do not. I think that every country should adopt it if a certain number of years have passed. KZbin shouldn't really cause problems when it comes to "Public Domain" music. I've seen a few channels that post oldies compilations without problems, I even think they're monetized. Especially the "Nemo's Dreamscapes" channel, what archive does the owner of that channel have? I really wanted to do at least one or two compilations with oldies songs, but now I don't know what to do because we are not in a position to have a written argument to defend against a Copyrigt Claim or at worst a "Copyrigt Strike". It's a very sad story what happened to your channel, yet each of us invests a large part of our time, effort, hours and hours of work.

This is not public domain, the licence on persuasive map : Cornell is providing access to the digital images, Collector’s Notes and other metadata from the PJ Mode Collection of Persuasive Cartography as a digital aggregate under an assertion of fair use for non-commercial purposes such as education, scholarship and research. See Association of Research Libraries et al., Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Academic and Research Libraries (PDF), 19-21 (January 2012).

Can I use thease images in my book and publish it? Won't I get copyright issues?
@TheCreatorSynergy
@TheCreatorSynergy 2 жыл бұрын
If the image is in Public Domain, then yes, you can use it. But you have to remember about trademarks too, so for example, you can use all the original images/illustrations from 1926 edition of Winnie the Pooh, but you cannot use the book title, and/or some or maybe even all characters from the book, as they are likely to be trademarked. Other than that, all images/illustrations from books published in USA before 1926 are in Public Domain in USA (more likely in other countries too), unless clearly stated by the site owner/publisher/ webmaster, but even though if for example: you'll find an image (published in USA before 1926) that you would like to use it on 1 site (which states in their terms and conditions that you cannot use their materials without their consent), you can do a reverse image check via google, and find other sources/sites which rules are not strict with regards to use, or they are clearly stating that it is in Public Domain and you can do whatever you want. Please, bear in mind that I am not an attorney!! And this is not a Leagal advice! Always make sure to double check, do your due dilligence and if in doubt, hire a copyright attorney and copyright researcher to do the job for you.
