The new Canadian police act, Bill 68, Comprehensive Ontario Police Services Act, 2019, was enacted on April 1, 2024 ¹. The new act repeals the Ontario Police Services Act, 1990, and introduces the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 ². The new act allows for the suspension of police officers without pay for misconduct or unsatisfactory performance ². Additionally, the act introduces changes to police governance, oversight, and discipline, and provides for the establishment of a police complaints system ³

Safe public spaces please include Nosehill. We need Park patrol in that area. And we sincerely miss the officers on horseback❤❤❤❤❤❤

So proud of the Calgary Police Service and the actions taken on the protesters. Look at the yard sales taking place across the country and good old Alberta keeping things in check ✔️...Bravo!!!

Can we look at the REAL facts up held by CPS and By-Law. A normal citizen will be fined $$$ and charged with Trespassing if they put up a Park clean up sign and engage in a group park clean up on private land. Yet the public got away with breaking the laws at U of C???? Doesn't make sense

Shame on the Calgary police!!

I think it’s disgusting that police officers can resign before getting disciplined or fired and then move onto other police departments. These are bad cops and you are allowing them to just move on instead of fixing the problem. It shouldn’t surprise you that more and more people dislike the police and less people want to sign up to become law enforcement.

As mentioned in the video, it is the norm in Canada for police services to require that experienced officers consent to their former employer disclosing the person's entire disciplinary record (including pending cases). That typically means that officers who resign when facing serious discipline do not get hired anywhere else. However, we agree that a more formal method is needed to prevent officers from just switching police services to escape discipline, and we have advocated for that with the provincial and federal governments.

Thank you Commissioner for saying this out loud. It's a step forward for those of us who the justice system under the court of Queen's bench has failed. I have hope that the Court of Kings bench will be a stronger advocate for Women in the future. And Thank you to CPS for publicly stating your limitations. There is a disconnect of what we believe and the Facts of what actually will be done.

That is a short discussion on the topic of crime and drug abuse in Calgary and Public Transit. Do the police need more supports, funding?what steps are being taken to make transit stations and neighbouring communities safer? Commissioners barely scraped the issues the Calgary people are experiencing. Are the Commissioners unaware of what is happening on Transit on a daily basis besides the stories that make the NEWS. I found the Commissioners questions weak regarding Transit - drug abuse, theft, B&Es in neighbouring communities from the drug addicts using Public Transit
@CPS_Commission Жыл бұрын
Thank you for comments. Your concern about transit safety is very much a concern we share. Crime and drug use on transit have been a regular topic of discussion at our meetings for several months, both during the public and private portions of the meetings. There have been significant staffing issues affecting the police, due partly to funding issues and partly to reduced recruitment during the pandemic (recruit training class could only be half their usual size due to health measures). Our Commission and Council approved significant funding increases last fall, and the Service recruited more new officers in 2022 than they have ever before in a single year - all to try ensure the vacancies on the frontline are being filled. The issues on transit also require more than just a police response. The City of Calgary needs to support the effort by adding security measures and the province needs to support it by added treatment beds for people in crisis due to mental health or addiction issues, otherwise officers do not have anywhere to take people they are removing from transit property. You can read the latest about what is being here: newsroom.calgary.ca/the-city-of-calgary-announces-immediate-actions-to-make-transit-safer/

Someone should ask Calgary Police Chief Neufeld what his team plans to do about the near daily shootings/murders/killings that have been ongoing in Calgary for well over a year now ............ Ask him about his JOB!! He can't just sit back with feet up while cameras capture the crime. Can he?

Thank you for your comment. We have requested a presentation from the Calgary Police Service leadership on how they are addressing gun violence. It will be part of our next regular meeting on September 28.
