Should point out that according to Jon, Gary Goldstein's actor, he believes that Gary wasn't actually enthralled by Wiggly, but was just excited to be a part of something. Which I'm going to take as true because it's the funnier way to look at it.
@goobrious750511 сағат бұрын
I'm adopting this into my headcanon, and honestly, I think it still lines up quite nicely with my analysis of the cult as a whole. He's excited to he included in something, even if its a world ending cult. Wiggly is giving Goldstein what he wants.

I'm a big sucker for The Rose. I don't remember who wrote it, but it's the one that starts like "Sometimes love, it is a river that drowns the tender reed..." 💜
@kilo398918 күн бұрын
I think that what the song teaches me about the person who wrote it is that they have loved many times in their life, and they choose to hope despite the numerous ways love can go wrong. It's a sentiment I empathize with.

At 23:12, I don’t think it’s a good example of mourning for Ethan, because she has no idea where he is. The last she saw of Ethan and Hannah is when they were going to the cineplex. The only thing that she knows about them is that there has been no new information on Ethan, and that the cult has Hannah and they were going to kill her. She had no idea Ethan was dead and I think that makes it even more sad

I moreso take issue with the lack of a scene where Lex finds out that Ethan died, I could have phrased it better in the video tho.

That's a take that I've definitely come around to more since I made this video. Ethan, as a character, isn't fleshed out much in Black Friday, but his importance to the play is more symbolic than anything else.

Personally, I think the hatchefield trilogy is hard to rank just because they're all better than each other in certain ways and worse in others. I think TGWDLM has the best and most cohesive overall story, while Black Friday has the best solo songs, and NPMD has the best duets and group numbers. I think TGWDLM has probably the weakest songs overall, black friday has the weakest overall story, and NPMD has the weakest romance/leads (specifically the two in that romance)

For me, Nerdy Prudes must die sits comfortably at the top. IMO, it outclasses the previous installments in almost every way. It has the best songs in any starkid show, it has the best story with it not feeling complicated with too many main characters and subplots like Black Friday, and with said characters being interesting unlike the guy who didn’t like musicals (except for Emma, she’s great).

Steph & Pete as the worst couple is a WILD take imo, but to be fair, Hatchetfield has yet to miss with its ships.

In regards to the individuality vs collective mind discussion, I saw an interesting theory that Inevitable is infected Paul still trying to save Emma. He tells her she "has to sing to survive," so the argument was that the remaining individual of Paul is trying to keep Emma from dying by telling her to just play along with the aliens.

I always thought that they did a bait and switch with "the warrior in a deep slumber", it seems like it's Tom who needed waking up, but she was a warrior who fought back from her abusers and had to wake up from the harm she had literally and metaphorically caused herself (the doormat -isms and the legit knock out drugs)

I thought Starkid could make a musical about Hannah herself. The character is interesting, and making a show about her would bring more dimension to her character, or it could complicate her even more.

Though like your idea of WHY he hates musicals, I despise the idea that that’s when he’s finally happy, I think one of the reasons he doesn’t really have a “want” is that he’s already happy, like he said, he likes hatchet field, he never wanted to leave, he’s content with his life, obviously he wants to get with Emma but, he doesn’t have some drive, he’s happy with his life, I also kinda head cannon that the reason the aliens act like the people and do stuff like that isn’t the people still being there and conscious, it’s just the aliens sorta taking their memories, and using that to manipulate those around them, and the reason they don’t do that with Paul during inevitable is because, they will overpower Emma, they’ve already won, she’s lost, and Pokotho/Pokey/The Alien hive mind, is just so gleeful that they finally gained control of him. Don’t know if my grammars bad or if I said things more then once, to lazy to check

This is an old video but one thing that I’ve never seen discussed is that the intruders that come in during “Show stopin’ number”from both sides where as Paul only comes in and leaves from one side. This caused a few people to say that Hidgens got this EXACT scenario because he saw it before and that “working boys” was about real friends and some real events. The real events could be that he has locked his dead alien friend in the basement hence the “you haven’t aged a day” comment. That’s my English Alevel at work

I still find the ending of the show incredibly sad. Even if there’s still parts of the people in there, the infected people aren’t really themselves in my opinion. They’re a hive mind and can never fully be individuals again. The thought of that inevitably happening to everyone on earth is awful! Great show though lol

I really love that you did this! Black Friday might be my least favorite HF entry, but that's not because it isn't good (it is really good, actually) but because the other entries were way more fleshed out. The fact that it was too ambitious is by no means the worst problem that it could have had. The fact that it didn't get the rewrite it desperately needed is sad actually but I like how it did what it did!

we find out in the 'nightmare time' episode 'watcher world' that alice does actually feel that way about bill but still wants to him to be in her life despite how poor of a father hed been to her before. their relationship is my roman empire i think about them way too often. 'queer kid with father issues' is a trope that speaks so much to me... also, during 'join us and die' charlotte also says "your own body is your front-row seat" basically just telling us that the person infected is fully conscious but is trapped n has no control over what they do or say

Watcher World is one of my favorite NMT episodes, probably my favorite of the first season or at least tied with Time Bastard. I made this video before I watched all of it, so the only context I had for Alice & Bill's relationship was TGWDLM.

I don't like Black Friday. I like a lot of parts, but as a whole, it didn't really come together that well in my opinion. There were some great songs and also some incredibly boring ones. Honestly, in my opinion, it felt like they were doing too much at once with this one. It also felt to me, like it was a little pretentious? The whole materialism thing just kinda feels like making the whole thing about a kind of half-baked "message." Which is fine, if the message was as deep as they thought it was. Even the best songs had parts that kinda ruined them, and overall, its just one of my least favorites. I think in the development of this one, they were trying to intentionally manufacture a "magnum opus", and it really just doesn't have that same star kid feel, in my opinion. Also, am I the only one that wants the whole hatchet field thing to end already? I just want some new funny musicals that don't have all this interconnected lore and can just tell a nice story.
