The Ehtelfleda part, apparently her small Fortification was down at the bridge, actually called Castle Rock. It was situated on an outcrop that was destroyed when the Bridgwater canal was dug out and the railway bridge footings placed etc apparently. There use to be a small visitor centre on wig island that was roughly based on the fortification at castle rock but this too was recently demolished. With the fortification eventually came a small church of some sort roughly where the present church sits that then moved to and I then think sprouted Norton Priory, while the church has been rebuilt over the years to what is there now. Just bits from memory from local history searches a while back, so I'm open to being corrected. 🙂 Btw, there are unsubstantiated stories of tunnels from the castle to the monastery, however no evidence of these I'm aware of. Sure there is an opening to the left on the lead up road to the castle that is narrow and blocked off, could be a small tunnel maybe to the church or castle? 🤔 or just some other access to a store,coal store or something 🤔 I remember an episode of time team to another castle and they said nearly every castle has local rumours of scret tunnels that are mostly urban legends. Runcorn does have a number tunnels though, more usually associated with industry such as the sandstone quarry up Runcorn hill.

Very odd vocal noise at 2:55. It sounded much like alleged spectral voices/EVPs from ghost hunter shows. Did anyone else notice it?

No, that was me saying 'this is a hike....' It's the original audio coming through. I put voiceover over the top, but didn't take down the original audio when I did it. No spectral ghostly goings on here... :)

What a lovely and immensely well put together video. Gracefully and respectfully done and very informative. I remember school trips to the castle in the 70’s. We change and grow older, but for the most part nothing changes to the castle. Imagine what those stones could tell us. Thank you for posting.

I grew up near this castle & appreciate the walk through ❤ We used to hang out sitting on a sandstone part facing Liverpool ✨ There used to be extremely old etched graffiti visible in the sandstone; very artfully done too 🧡 the oldest i found at one point in the 80's was 1215. In the left wall on the steep entry way up to the castle there was a very narrow tunnel opening out to chambers & further tunnels that apparently lead to the priory ✨ I never personally got into even the nearest chamber: was far too scared, as it was very narrow & pitch black. These have been sealed off for years. There were rumours of people having been lost in these tunnels after batteries failing on torches 💔

Where was these tunnel openings
@beesknees54417 ай бұрын
@@Barry-or6bi Within the high wall on the left of the steep road leading up to the little church, then castle - the arch of the doorway may still be visible; though it's been a few years since I last looked😉

that archway could be the exit of a garderobe from the upper floor ?, if you could get up to that higher room there might be a hole leading down that way.
