@@jz4901 I've always had a tendency to tense up a bit too much whenever excitement or emotion kicks in, and maybe there'll always be a little there, but these exercises will definitely help me to send the excess energy elsewhere. Do you still practice these particular exercises or just practice more mindfully?
@jz490110 күн бұрын
@@liamwaynemedia I actually revisit these exercises periodically. Tension has a way of creeping back in for me, just due to bad habit. e.g., I'm working on gypsy style picking, and find that my arm somehow tries to get involved, lifting my shoulder off of the guitar. A periodic scan seems to help a lot. When I pick well, there's definitely a feeling of "activation", but it's not something that builds up, and it's not a feeling of fighting myself.

@@jz4901 it’s simple bro, you know how you can have a word have parent’s, I want the same type of functionality in the language tab where you set up languages, it would make it easy for dialect learning, dialect being like subcategories of one kind of language, for example I’m learning Ancient Greek and this program works wonders, Ancient Greek has a lot of dialects, if I could make subcategories of Ancient Greek with their own rules on implementation (optional on the rules because they should default to the parent languages settings) it be very usually in many applications

Hey there, glad you found the video! It's been a few years since I made it and my thinking has (finally) evolved since then, but this is still foundational work that I keep returning to. For chronic tension sufferers like I used to be, these helped me break out of it. I hope to eventually post an update with the changes to my thinking, but I need to sort it out -- it's not tricky, it just needs refinement, you know? Essentially, it boils down to this: picking (and playing) requires a constant balance between muscle activation and relaxation, always alternating. It's always easier to teach muscle activation vs relaxation, so by getting the relaxed feeling in your bones, you'll be able to add the activation at the appropriately regulated level. Phew, lots of words -- cheers and best wishes!

Hey there! The shifting is all one smooth motion, when you play it slowly it’s stop and start but at speed it feels like my arm is just moving my hand smoothly up the neck, no stress. Now that I tried it, the tool is amazing and has so much protentional to it. I have a few suggestions and notes: 1. Adding a field for notes. Sometimes you know the word but the structure of the sentence is what caught your attention, and a note section would be beneficial for that. 2. I know this feature is available, but whenever I add dictionaries lute refuses to open the ones I added. I am not really sure why. 3. when a word is at the end of a line and is divided by hyphen to the next line, lute does not highlight it in red and does not show the meaning when you hover over it. (although the word is saved in the terms section) 4. I think employing AI is a good idea. If it is possible to export a text from the document to AI website and ask about it (it feels like talking to a native and it can help you understand words and their cultural aspects more than dictionaries). all in all great tool, I am very thankful.

Thank for the notes, always good to get feedback. Some of these are already in github issues (1 and 4). Re the dictionaries, perhaps they need to be configured as pop-up, see the manual, or jump into the discord to chat with others. hm, 3 is weird ... perhaps it's split into separate sentences/paragraphs? I'd need to see the data (in discord or github is best). Since Lute's free open source, I and others get to things when we can, if they're interesting and useful. 🙂 Cheers and best wishes, jz

Hi! Have just heard about your software and tried last night. Really liked it, was having some fights with the online alternatives.. Couldn't find myself if any good soul has started a content library for beginners and if you're willing to have such a thing supported (like with the URL import), but maybe with batch import of multiple texts/audio be it online or downloaded file with metadata. Thanks for the project!

Hey there, I'm not aware yet of any content library ideas. Lute's still new-ish but growing, and ultimately something like what you suggest would be super. @jz49017 ай бұрын
Hey there! It's a good question, but at this moment, no, for a few reasons. There are a number of feature requests and things I want myself which are almost all functional, rather than related to appearance. Keeping the rest of the front end quite basic keeps me focused on core things. The existing features -- theming, focus mode, custom css, styling controls -- already seem pretty good for the reading mode, which is what this app is really about. Styling changes often get quite personal :-) so I'm avoiding that at the moment.

This is just a question and I don't want to bother you. Thank you again for your time and for creating such a great program.
@jz49018 ай бұрын
Hi there, I wasn't aware of Gemini, it looks great. I can't see a way to interact with it like other programs. If you click on a word while reading, and then hit Shift + C, Lute copies the whole paragraph to the clipboard -- at least that's a workaround perhaps. Does google translate not work for you? Thank good you added a automatic database refresh after the tutorial, i've been using lingQ for a while but it hasn't been worth it for me cause the UI is not compatible with my ADHD and i become obsessed with organizing and categorizing terms, even if they aren't relevant to me and I will never look at them again. The three best things that made me want to install lute: a. the database gets wiped after the tutorial and I can start fresh with only the terms I really want and need, from materials I only want end need. I think on LingQ there is too much of a focus on community learning and making it a social language sharing platform, that they forgot to continuously work on and improve the one thing the app claims to do... that is reading text easily. b. the parent term feature. I get so overwhelmed with trying to find ways to tag and filter my term database, so I can have the different words of conjugations and gender/number all connected to each other and actually create a good structure for all my vocabulary. c. the preferred dictionary feature. I know this is a common feature for those who used LWT. But i got into learning by reading through lingQ and it frustrated me to no end that the default way to look up words is the terms other users have created and having to click on the preferred dictionary to get a translation, which is only a separate pop-up window. I don't want this to sound like a rant, but i've just been so frustrated with lingQ the last few weeks that I haven't touched it in weeks and it has been one of the most tools of language learning for me. I almost cried in relief when I finally found an alternative that I actually liked. And the fact that this is free and on a local host without having to sort through all the community additions, it makes it so much better for me personally. Thank you so much for doing all of this work. PS.: if there is a way to donate to you, I would love to do so, when I am able to in the future.

Hi there, I am very grateful for this piece of software, I use it everyday. I was wondering if you have any plans to make a possible update? I do have some simple suggestions to improve the program, for example 1. Adding a shortcut for saving words after editing their definition and such. Say, if I click ctrl+enter, it clicks on "save" button automatically. I think many would agree that it would be very helpful. 2. Being able to add images for a word from your clipboard. 3. Audio player that highlights the words when its playing and autoscrolls/changes page, like something that is used in Turboscribe. 4. Being able to stort by multiple criteria in home page 5. Improving term export to .csv such that the different columns are exported into their respective columns in excel. 6. Including some sort of statistics where you could see how many new words you have added into different word categories or how many words you have read during a period of time. 7. SRS of course would be nice and many would appreciate that but for me honestly its not must, but it would be nice feature to have for sure. 8. Improving text editing so that you could edit in the same window without opening a new page. 9. Adding filters in the home page 10. A adjustable timer liek pomodoro or something, this could be connected to the statistics as well! :) It is a good piece of software as is, but with some improvement it could be really really great. Many people use Lingq but for me its very bloated and slow in comparison.

Hi there, thanks for the notes! :-) Yep, people are always making suggestions and I and others make updates as we can. Some of these suggestions are easy, some are very difficult, and some seem to be impossible. The GitHub has issues and suggestions, I'll add some of these there. In short, with the current state: 1. Yes, there are similar suggestions already 2. Not possible, as far as I know. 3. Not possible with the current state -- it implies some extra data and tracking that Lute doesn't have. 4. Don't follow what the request is here 🙂 5. Exporting directly to excel isn't possible as not everyone uses it. You should be able to import into excel with the "export to csv" button though (recently enhanced) 6. yes. "words read" is already present, but not term counts etc 7. yes, there's an issue for export to Anki. Built-in reviews won't be supported, for reasons outlined in the lute manual. 8. Ah ... that might be tough. 🙂 9. The home page does have a "search" box in the top right that filters the books. 10. I thought about that but have decided that users should manage that themselves. But who knows, maybe someone will want to implement it, it's open source. Cheers! Everything is a work in progress.
