I feel this film is kinda of a wild card at the moment. It does have competition with Superman, and Jurassic World Rebirth and previous F4 films have been received negatively. Plus the MCU while in a better place then it was in 2023, isn't the juggernaut it once was. However I do think the fresh take of it being in the 1960s in a retro universe, having Galactus be the main villain, and them marketing it as Marvel's first family coming to the MCU and having a good film finally will create a lot of interest. Plus the F4 have been getting a little bit more popular because of Marvel Rivals which could create some interest in the film. It will come down to good wom at the end of the day.

I don't know if F4 is actually set in the 60s or if it's actually present day in that universe with a 60s aesthetic. If it's retro future, then that's probably it and would make more sense once they cross over into Earth 616. I imagine if you cross from one universe in a certain year, you'll end up in the other universe at the same year.

@@JoshuaStDenis He's just very critical of them because he wants comic book movies to be just as good as other hollywood movies, which is fair. A lot of general cinema fans already don't respect comic book and superhero films so raising the bar of quality isn't the worst idea. Sometimes people tend to be most harsh on things they love.

Jonathan makes an excellent & important point re the plothole that's immediately created by setting the 1st MCU F4 movie in the main timeline, so having them cross over from their universe at the end of their movie as a result of Galactus presumably wrecking shop is the simplest & cleanest solution to the problem!

I want both these movies to do equally well because they both represent bringing back faith to iconic comic book characters for live action movies when in the past neither one of them has had very good representations him live action movies. I've seen some people say this might be the next Barbenheimer, but that is definitely not the case because Barbie and Oppenheimer didn't just open on the same month but also on the same day and part of the appeal was that they were targeting such drastically different demographics whereas Superman and Fantastic Four have the same target audience.

The people whining about Superman are shit posting for cheap engagement. As for Spider-man, Marvel has hated Spider-man for decades, Spider-man 3 was garbage, Andrew was cheated out of a good trilogy, Tom has his hand held for 3 movies and will again probably in the 4th. The comics won't let him be happy unless it's an alternate version that's not canon, the shows never make it past season 2. Marvel hates Spider-man....Marvel hates Peter Parker, they loves Miles, and Gwen, hell even Otto in Peter's body had it better.

I would assume that since Marvel cannot make their own live action Spider-man films and they control all the ancillary characters who show up I assume they are using Spider-man as a vehicle to expose Marvel fans, through the most popular Marvel character, to a wider Marvel roster.

The show is corny and a slap in the face to what spectacular spider-man was. Everyone comparing this to the ultimate spider-man game is bastardizing the image of ultimate spiderman in comparison as it has more life and personality than this show, while also sticking to the lore and doing it justice

As a life-long Spidey fan, I honestly have zero problems with the show (well... maybe the animation style, but I've gotten over that). Without disclosing my actual age, i'm... not young haha. So with that in mind, I honestly don't mind seeing things shaken up; certain characters used (or not used) in certain ways, and introducing newer characters to a general audience. I've been taking in Spidey content for over 30 years. And yeah, I don't necessarily need to see certain characters repeated the same way over and over again. It's nice to shake things up, while keeping the spirit of Spidey and his world intact. That's why I'm not personally mad at seeing a female Dr. Connors, characters like Amadeus Cho show up, or seeing an alternate take on the Osborns and someone like Lonnie Lincoln. I mean shit, Batman: The Animated Series is iconic, but they didn't always follow "canon" to a T. They completely reimagined a character like Mr. Freeze with a completely different back-story and tone, and now he's considered the standard of that character. No reason we can't try to do the same with other comic characters. I'm already seeing people be charmed and invested in Lonnie, not realizing who he actually is in the comics. That's the kinda things I like seeing.

@@roconi1127 Overall I agree, the show is good for sure. Though I do think if you shake too much up then you do loose something of the character. Especially if basically every movie or tv show seems to do it for maybe a 20 year span. Spectacular Spider-Man is beloved because it really captures and modernises the original Stan Lee and Ditko comics, the show makes changes for sure but it sprinkles them across the show and I think does clever things with it, but since that show it’s like every new thing we have had has had a fundamental different take on Spider-Man or his supporting cast. Ultimate Spider-Man, into the spider verse (though I think that was very clever with it) MCU, the Disney Spidey cartoon. You know as I type this I don’t really have a clear argument, I just wouldn’t want the supporting cast lost because people seem to want to avoid using them. It’s funny I’ve been enjoying the Lonnie aspect of the story, probably because I feel we are going to go on a real journey with him, but people seem really angry for some reason. Even though it’s hitting a few of the same narrative beats that Spectacular Spider-Man did for Eddie Brock and nobody seemed to have a problem with that.

I'm giving people then benefit of the doubt I think that since the superman flying scene is shot with closer and with a wide lense it can look uncanny to people because it makes David Corenswet look different but they don't know how to articulate that so they just say bad CGI because in their limited film knowledge they know that's something that can make shot look weird
@jameskingman1227

I’ve been enjoying this show, but I do agree with DJ and have to wonder why we are just ignoring Spider-Man’s supporting cast. He has the most iconic cast in all of comics and we just seem to keep ignoring them, or mixing and matching names, races, genders or just flat out omitting people. Now I know the argument of course is always they want to keep it fresh and try new things, but if this happens so consistently for a long time the general audience ends up not knowing who the real characters are and who are the altered versions. Hell as an example I asked my wife while doing a MCU rewatch a while back does she know the Hulks origin, she just looked at me blankly and shrugged and said gamma radiation. Now I know that it’s silly, but to me that feels like the MCU really fumbled the ball on explaining anything, now you don’t need to go into the whole thing for sure, but we may get to a point where people don’t know about the gamma bomb, or that Superman was sent here from a doomed planet etc. there maybe a whole generation now who have no idea who Uncle Ben is because a loud majority of the audience kept saying no more origin stories, which seemed to be interpreted by the studios as never mention Uncle Ben ever. Sorry, I don’t want this to come across as a rant. It’s just strange to me that we seem to be constantly reinvent our characters all the time.

21:00:00 I think DJ brings up a great point and I’ve been thinking about this recently. I’ve finally gotten a hold of a PS5 and played Spider-Man 2, and since then I’ve had this thought about changing characters and this cropped up again in this show. So in Spider-Man 2 Harry Osborn is Venom, not Eddie Brocks, but when he’s Venom he really just acts like Eddie, and in this show Curt Conners has been gender and race swapped and seems to be a much nicer person compared to her traditional counterpart. I just have to ask the question that if we can deviate this far from the original characters are they really that character anymore, and if they aren’t then why do we bother and are people not allowed to be upset. Or are these characters so one note that you can just slap a Venom Symbiote on someone and have essentially the same character. I mean I know most people only like Venom when introduced to him because he’s an evil Spider-Man, and when you’re 8 years old that’s just the coolest thing ever, but does that just mean that he’s always been that shallow?

When the trailer of dropped I was conflicted because I love the art style but I don't like the animation style. And quite frankly I'm completely over high school Spider-Man same with early years Batman. It's just become the default when it comes to adaptations nowadays and I'm exhausted by it. And with Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man I'm also not a fan of the voice actor because as I recall it's the same one from the What If episode and to me he just sounds like a Tom Holland knock off.
