Man, Mel Gibson is such a legend. Lethal Weapon, Mad Max, Braveheart, The Patriot, etc. So many badass characters and films.

I love this scene, however I feel the need to point out that in real life, pretty much any handgun bullet would go through that thin metal plate that the sniper was using as a shield. Normal handgun bullets will go clean through a car. Also, unless they're special rounds meant to fragment inside a body, most ammo will easily pass through a human body without slowing down in the slightest. So all those scenes of people using someone else as a human shield are pure fantasy. In reality, they'd be turned into Swiss cheese along with the person they're hiding behind.

I always wished this scene would’ve been left in the final film as the introduction to Riggs. It really says a lot about him in this scene

The police officer he's talking to at 1:24. That's officer "Send in the Car!" from Die Hard. Die Hard and Lethal Weapon happen in the same universe, confirmed!

The third and fourth movies are my favorite. Because I watch those so often I sometimes forget just how far gone Riggs was at the start of this franchise. Here he is a broken man, and I would say almost empty, soulless eyes. However by the last two films, and especially the fourth, Riggs eyes are full of life again. He has a family and friends that are like family. But seeing where he came from just makes me appreciate Riggs’ character arc even more.

I adore how he just asks a few questions about the shooter and goes "Okayyy..." like he's not even sure how it's going to go. Riggs was a quintessential 80s badass.

Fun fact with Beretta 92’s you never sling shot the slide back like you would a 1911 or Glock or Sig, you almost always use the slide release to recharge the weapon after a fresh magazine.

Wow! Mel Gibson is a wonderful actor. In this character he chooses to intervene when he heard the sniper shot a 9 year old kid. The others did not do much for so long but Mel did it and saved a lot of people in only one minute. Amazing detective Riggs.

Here's a small detail non gun people probably won't notice. His gun is a double action, which means he does not have to have the hammer down to fire a shot. At 2:04 you see him pull the hammer down because the double action pull is a very heavy and long pull and would mess up his aim on the first shot.
