No, the engine remains in the car. It has restricted access and is very tight, but it can be done.

Thanks martin yes the one I have sat up had no power very slow. Booming popping back and black smoke as obviously the exhaust cam is affected. Its an auto and I've now got an issue with my leg so need to get it running ASAP. The cam timing tool you bought the link you posted doesn't seem to work. Can you provide details of that? Thanks for the reply!

@@josueescalona8899 I changed the camshaft myself. I did not remove the engine from the car. It took about 5 hours. The hardest part was removing the diesel / pneumatic pump at the rear of the engine. I also purchased the special tool to line up the camshaft and crankshaft.

Had this noise on my V10 TDI. Its a worn hydrualic lifter/camshaft, and its not opening the exhaust valves properly. If you grab the charge pipe and can feel the pulsing in your hands thats exhaust gasses getting blown back into the intake when the intake valve opens after the exhaust stroke. At least you only need to by 1 set for the 2.5 unlike me who to buy 2 sets for the V10 😅
@martinshaw254

Was it both camshafts that had worn or just the one? You are right, I only had to replace one camshaft and one set of followers. As I have said, once you have the special tool for setting the timing, the job is pretty straight forward if you take your time.
@mitchellmounts9044
@mitchellmounts9044 3 жыл бұрын
@@martinshaw254 i should of replaced them both at the same time. Im not sure how the 2.5 TDI is set up but the V10 only has two camshafts one on each cylinder head. Like i said, i raplced the passenger side cam and all 10 lifters, then about 2k miles of driving later the driver side lifter wore out and had to replace that cam and another 10 lifters over there. Ive put about 90k miles on it since then, no enegine issues since then.

Sometimes there is gunk in the valve seat, making it not seal propely, if you drive it for long, the gunk will move and allow the valve to seal. Check again after driving for about 40 min if its hot outside.

That’s exactly what happened to my car - T5 2.5 AXD. After cleaning the intakte’s manifold i re-installed it and saw same engine’s behavior as in the movie. 30 min on a highway did the job. Now the engine works nicely.

@@martinshaw254 Hi, did this fix the problem? Can you record the sound after the change? Is it much different? I have the same sound on the R5 in my T5, but it's been there for like 100k kms now and doesn't seem to be getting worse.
@martinshaw254
@martinshaw254 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarekMikulaAlbrechticeBrusel the booming sound has completely disappeared and now sounds like it does in the clip between 0.22 and 0.28 seconds. The cam lobes were very worn on the camshaft and all the followers were worn and dished. On one of the followers, the top had completely worn through. On a T5, I would think it is easier to get to the cam gear end and remove the tandem pump but might be tricky to fit the crank shaft lock and cam lock (both in the special tool kit needed for this job) to the left of the engine?
