Interesting! [Subscribed.] I'm a former banjo player trying to play some tunes on the fiddle. This morning I was sightreading an Irish tune called "Out on the Ocean," it's easy, but the problem is if I'm not looking at the page, I tend to forget how it goes. I post mainly on my Instagram, but maybe I'll try posting One-Take Shakes for 2025 on my channel, hmm.... 🤔 A One-Take Shake is where I play a tune from start to finish in one take and post it no matter how bad it is, heh! Okay, I posted a One-Take Shake from September. If you look, you can be the first one 😡

I was unfamiliar with this carol too, so I hopped over and listened to a reference vid after I watched your video and my verdict is... you're really making great progress! 🤩 Kudos! God bless you! I hope you continue on this exciting journey!

Xmas is around the corner but does it really count as sight reading you know all the songs in advance
@jonhh69183 күн бұрын
😅 copyright strike on this ? I thought Xmas songs were public domain. Maybe it’s because it does not sound or count like sight reading
@jonhh69183 күн бұрын
Nice idea 💡 Xmas songs but is it really sight reading if you know the piece

Those high treble notes are the worst on viola. Well done on working on something this annoying!

You need to listen to the one good recorded version to get a sense of the rhythm, it’s almost like rock, it has a strong beat
@KathTheViolist18 күн бұрын
Yes, I wanted to sight read it without listening first. The recording is either in a different key or it is tuned differently@@M_SC

I'd say, Christmas carols are easier to sightread at first. So why not start with simple pieces and gradually increase the difficulty?

Wohoo! Can't wait! Why not go for some fiddle tunes! You have a book about that, if I remember right! They're short, most should be simple enough but different. But I'll still watch everyday 😊😊

I've been sight reading a lot of celtic tunes. They don't go very far up and down the scale and follow more of an open tuning on the fiddle. Not as classy but easier for me to handle.

Please keep going after this. Your shifting is impeccable and you've put in a lot of work to get to this point. I'm a violist, I was not this good in 100 days, so as most professional violinists. You're learning fast. I genuinely wish you the best, and I hope you go on to be the person that you're striving to be.

Hello, from watching some of the videos your technique has really improved overall from practice so just keep going and that will keep improving, overall, aside from left hand and right hand technique I think you would benefit a lot from using a lot more bow and developing a more free left hand because of this. This would help make your playing sound much more expressive as it allows much more open vibrato and overall a much freer sound. This would help especially with solo music as it makes being expressive MUCH more easier therefore playing much more enjoyable. Aside from that, your technique is amazing (because of your amazing work on it so far) and keep practicing!
