This is by far the best explanation I have ever heard of opportunity cost; I learned this concept in my grad and post grad but never be able to fully inculcate it's real meaning into my mind and body, but after watching this video, am really seeing everything around me as an opportunity costs and tradeoffs. Really great video! Thanks to everyone who created this.

A crucial distinction regarding effect heterogeneity is between variable selection and the curve fitting given the selected variables. For the latter, ML tools can be very useful. But the moderating variables should be chosen in a deductive fashion, so I agree with Angrist there. Of course, it would also help if economists would be more aware of the difference between causal interaction and effect modification ...

A silly question but how can we have constant returns to scale and diminishing returns to capital?

It’s 2025 and it’s even worse man 😂 People in their 30s can’t afford to own a house, they can’t get married Even the married ones avoiding having children yet both of them are working 8 hours a day, their money lose value everyday yet they’re paying high taxes This is literally slavery

I appreciate the effort and insight in your video, but I’d like to raise a point for discussion regarding Zimbabwe’s history. The economic and political decline is often attributed solely to internal factors like Robert Mugabe’s authoritarian rule. However, shouldn’t we also consider the impact of international sanctions that were imposed after land redistribution efforts aimed at addressing historical injustices? While Mugabe’s regime had its faults, it seems like external forces-primarily sanctions-also played a significant role in pushing the economy into stagnation. Recently, three economists were awarded the Nobel Prize for their work on how external forces, such as colonial systems, can shape the long-term economic trajectory of nations. Could Zimbabwe’s experience with land reform and sanctions be an example of these theories in action? Is it fair to say that the backlash against land reforms was driven more by protecting vested interests than purely human rights concerns? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts or see a deeper exploration of this aspect in future content.

@~3min... when a borrower takes a loan at a higher rate, they can't afford to borrow as much placing downward pressure on price. Assuming they can continue to service the debt and refinance, this is a good time to make a loan, because the lock in a lower asset price.

But I wonder what the solution is? Most people go to "dynamic cities" because they NEED a job. More and more people are "forced" to live to work and survive in these cities. It is not like everyone just woke up, and felt like unrooting themselves.

5:13 - Or at least they would've if inequality didn't increase substantially between 1950 and 2015. The gini coefficient (a measure of inequality) was only about 0.376 in 1950 but had grown to about 0.485 by 2015, a significant increase in wealth inequality. You can also see this by the fact that while worker productivity has continued to grow, real wages have been disconnected from that growth since the 70s (known as the productivity-pay gap).

The GDP per capita is worst measure to compare two countries of standard of living, if u live in China with 50k dollars vs 100k dollar USA, you would have a better life than in USA. If you live in Africa with 30k dollars, the life would be better of all. Without taking into account inflated prices of those stuff and services, you miss the point of standard of living
