Dear SBC, "I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet." Sincerely, The Apostle Paul

Good morning from the beautiful SF Bay Area. Excellent show, Russell, although I come from a different perspective (I did grow up in an Evangelical clan, father was a Presbyterian minister) it is instructive for me to see how today's churches are grappling with these issues. When I left the church it was after realizing many biblical teachings were badly out of date. My father, God bless him, didn't realize he was trying to keep us "stupid" in the face of modern science. Why is there so much fear around seeing how God the Master Creator actually did it? Five thousand year old folk myths do not hold up against the facts of God's glorious universe. And the sad conflicts around women is just that, sad. The world has changed and we must change with it where it is right, and help guide where it is wrong. I love to hear your perspectives and argue with some of them as I listen. I loved your last book and sent it to my sister who has fallen down the rabbit hole. Don't know if she read it although she said she would. Blessings!

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; Friends,sadly we are here. The precious word of God is all that matters, not the culture, or society. It cuts, like a sword. Sadly, so many unregenerate people fill the pews, and this is what it produces, Bad fruit, from un repentant people Truly pray for those still standing and holding the line.

This guy is promoting some kind of psychological training. Everything he is concerned about is already addressed in the Bible. He has a low view of Scripture.

Sadly, when the largest Protestant denomination in America (the SBC) continues to toss this issue back and forth like a hot potato while in essence doing nothing, I think churches are still light years away from any comprehensive change at the congregational level. What appears to be happening at present is more like a rearranging of deck chairs on the Titanic. There actually seems to be a doubling down on "scriptural clarity" regarding the roles of women as corrupt male leaders are being exposed in ever increasing numbers, and the balance of power is experiencing seismic shocks that are difficult to account for. I wonder how long it will take for the viper's den to be cleaned out . . . I suspect it's going to be a while yet.

The Bible says the Holy Spirit is being withdrawn from humanity, because He has been grieved, rejected,and tossed aside. The carnal man is not subject to the law of God, either indeed can be. The Lord wants to restore the image of God/Elohim in us, but we will not surrender, die to self and let Jesus restore us. Adam and Eve started out whole and beautiful, enjoying The daily visit of the Lord with them and that of Holy Angels. Then Satan entered, sin entered, resulting in lawlessness. In two generations, lying, blaming, accusing,hiding,hatred, rebellion and open disrespect for God’s word and will, anger, violence and outright murder had occurred. Man and his carnal nature reigned supreme, selfishness and violence increased, truth and a knowledge of God was forgotten,and man worshipped himself and anything else he had a mind to. But a grieving God, said I am sending a flood, because the image of God in man was ruined. “can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? then may you also so good who are accustomed to do evil.” Jeremiah 13:23. This is the reason we need a Savior, because Acts 4:12 is true. The church ‘s purpose is to present that Savior to all men, in thought, word and deed, according to the Bible, and the example of Jesus, Himself! If the church fail to do that, Jesus words “Your house is left to you desolate.” Is correct!!! Because the church has forsaken her true work when there is true need!!! Satan has deceived, and taken the church captive, using it to his own ends, Christ is put out of the church, but she still claims The name of Christ. It’s just in name only!!!

Good Saturday morning from the SF Bay Area. I lived in a Christian commune for the year of 1969-70 in Encinitas, California. Not my cup o' tea! If you could do it on a piece of land where everyone had their own space I could imagine doing it and have actually talked with friends about the possibility of doing it. On the sexual front, I do not understand why clergy are not subject to the law. Why do priests not have to face criminal courts? Arghhhh..

I did not read the Atlantic article about not designing dining rooms into living spaces but would have to wonder about the functionality of dining rooms. Traditional dining rooms were seldom used spaces. For many years the trend has been to combine kitchen, dining, and living areas separated by an island or an island with a raised eating bar which greatly contributes to social interaction.

I am committed to being myself. We can only use what we were given to work with. I don't waste my time anymore trying to ask myself if what I'm doing is masculine or feminine. I figure that if I do it, it's feminine because I'm a woman. If a man does something, it's masculine because he's male.

Oh Beth, I can't wait to meet you in heaven someday. You said it so well. Our families are already broken. We must bring the darkness to the light even though it's scary. It breaks my heart to think of how many children are currently going through these things and they don't realize it can be safe to speak up.

i was just saying his last night to my grandson. Man is tainted by personal views which are not always biblical. yes, even men of God in the church are wrong. and as a women of a minority with dark skin, I can honestly say that "white men" we tend to trust. and this is why Paul said we will work out our salvation with fear and trembling. this is true for all believers. Pray for discernment and wisdom and let the holy spirit speak to you directly. Your pastor is not always right. the church has been on the wrong side of history 3 times. at least. Inquisitions. Slavery. Holocaust.

The fact that clergy can somehow use the SBC, the Catholic hierarchy, and other forms of "authority" to rationalize patently immoral behavior speaks of how corrupt organized religion in the US has become. Literally, God Help Us.

I started watching this with an open mind and decided that Burge is not orthodox. From 40 minutes on, he blasphemes and downplays faith. Earlier, I thought: It's telling that Burge has never met any of his fellow evangelicals who *do* like Trump (whether they be slightly idolatrous or just critics of the cozy status quo). 30% of a country the size of the USA is not no one!
@SeanusAurelius7 күн бұрын
Is Burge completely ignoring that church *causes* people to get married, work hard, and 'do things right'? He doesn't even seem to have considered what sanctification looks like in his stats...

Well said no doubt, but it raises huge questions. If we knowingly settle for what's convenient and easy, then is it still Christianity? Is it not our own self-centred self-invented religion we call "Christianity"? A strawman "Christianity"? What value does it have?

Maybe if the “church” would just love/act/be like Jesus….the church is in decline because it’s become a corporation. Church doesn’t save or redeem anyone, only Jesus can. We humans just keep mucking up the waters. We want comfort and programs and we don’t want it to cost us more than gym membership, or we want to write checks but not really live the gospel. Taking up your cross, laying down your life, is not the American way. Church organizations are just little governments, with a lot (not all) of addictions to power. Sad. Not at all what Jesus looks like.

You know what I don’t understand, is why women are allowed to even be a “messenger” to vote on these decisions if they’re not allowed any leadership roles, I would think you’d have to have an elevated position to be a “messenger”. ivf is another item on their agenda
