But can I let my hedgehog eat a coconut oil? I mean like mix with a food?
@CakeSSO2 жыл бұрын
@@balalaikachannel3775 interesting question. apparently you can, however you must be careful with how much you add and how many times you do. i dont think its best to add oil every day, but once a week or once a fortnight should be good. once again, oil isnt the best, and hedgehogs are very prone to weight gain. (though this does depend on your own hedgehog specifically)

my hedgehog always freaks out when I touch his quills, so when I brush him with the toothbrush he always rolls up and almost drowns himself. any tips?

If he gets defensive constantly, the best way to have him open up is by manhandling. Curling up like that is obviously a defense mechanism, a way to intimidate you. If you ignore that behavior, you then won't reinforce it. I would use smooth gloves or fleece/towel (make sure it doesn't catch in nails or cut off blood circulation) with your scent and hold him until he relaxes. Start doing this little by little so he doesn't get stressed, and once he relaxes reward him with a treat like a mealworm. Once this becomes daily, then begin adding gentle strokes. Make sure to pet in the direction of the spines and not against (meaning keep them flat, as petting the opposite direction is discomforting and hurts them). Now, if he gets stressed because of the water, just know hedgehogs tend to dislike baths. Make sure the water is shallow and a temperature you would use for an infant. Rather than having the tap run, I would use a pitcher or cup. Most importantly, don't waste any more time than you need for the process. These are all things I personally did with my hedgehogs in the past, but please know everyone is different in their own unique ways.

You should never put coconut oil directly on your hedgehog. Although it seems that it could help it really isn't good for them like that. Putting it in the bath was smart tho

Why?
@amyc96843 жыл бұрын
@@marvfarm6324 putting oils in their skin can cause fungal and skin infections by clogging their pores. I personally wouldn't use this method.

We just recently got my daughter a hedgehog, we’ve noticed her face is very dry as of late it looks very uncomfortable for her, have you ever seen this? Can you recommend a remedy? She just recently got coconut oil spray for her body/quilts but applying anything to the face seems difficult.

I would use the shampoo before moisturizing. Speaking as a person suffering from eczema, I always moisturize after a bath. Don't use baby shampoo. It's not meant for dry skin but for babies with cradle cap. My hairdresser told me off for using it, years ago.

Coconut oil was really a miracle for my hedgehog! Her skin and ears were EXTREMELY dry and her ears seemed as if they were dissolving or something. I gave her a good bath with coconut oil and OH DEAR her skin was beautiful, and her ears are somehow completely back to normal! Her ears even changed color to a darker tone (she had this color when she was a baby, but it faded away) So THANK YOU SO MUCH, saved a trip to the vet to see if it was mites or dry skin... it was definitely dry skin!

ik your comment is old but how i clip my hedgie’s nails is with a cuticle clipper. they’re small enough to fit a hedgehog’s tiny nail and easy to use. do it after bath because their nails soften. i just usually wrap my hedgehog around her towel and have her on my lap, laying on the back curled up and i just cut

I have a question. How often should I bathe my hedgehog?
@SimplyLizPonce5 жыл бұрын
Sofia Ramirez once a month is about average for a hedgehog, since they’re skin is relatively sensitive you want to stay away from bathing them too often. You risk drying out their skin, but if they do have dry skin and a bit of dandruff you can use this method and it should resolve quickly! Hope this helped (:

Chieki Frashure it looks mostly like really tiny dandruff. If your hedgehog let's you close enough, you can scratch at their back and it will flake. If not, then usually you can tell by holding them, and their flaky skin comes onto your clothing or blankets.
