Agreed UG while the Bela Lugosi version is iconic in so many ways, I also think highly of the spanish version.

It's also what's true and not true. Why we all are so busy with everydaylife that we miss the magic in life. A beautiful thoughtprovoking masterpiece that we can enjoy today when we get tired of Hollywood.

11:50 I would like to bring up that this scene was directed by none other than Mark Dindal. This was the first thing he directed before his official directorial debut with 1997's Cats Don't Dance.

three minutes in and still just comping. That snare drum gives me a headache after the first four bars. The lack of dynamics makes it sound like a bunch of loops played over and over. You must be still chasing the funk, because there sure ain't any here. Look up the meaning of the word and the genre.

I don't think it's controversial to say that the 1931 Spanish-language version is better than the English one. If only they'd got Bela Lugosi to play Dracula in it. That would have required getting someone who spoke Spanish and Hungarian writing out his lines phonetically for him and paying him overtime, but it would have been worth it. Looking forward to seeing a new version of this video in 2027 when 1931 works will be public domain in the US.

This review doesn’t do justice to this masterpiece. It’s vastly superior to the original 2001 on every level. It also breathes warmth and depth into the cold, distant 2001, completing it and making it whole.

Yes, I would be interested in a review of both the original Nosferatu and the 2024 version. John Carradine did get to play Count Dracula in "Billy the Kid Versus Dracula". Part of the appeal of Bela Lugosi's Dracula could be the European accent and formal dress. In a love triangle you have an everyman the women knows for who knows how long vs some charming continental guy. Everyman knows he's going to lose. This angle was well played in "Love at First Bite."

I quite enjoyed the 2020 mini series with Claes Bang as Dracula. It has some nice ideas that offer a fresh, new take on the character (like the ending). I know a lot of people won't agree with me, but I also like Dracula 2000 with Gerard Butler. The revelation of Dracula's true identity (no spoilers) was a real surprise. Apparently the Robert Eggers version of Nosferatu is doing really well at the box office, so that success could pave the way for more vampire movies (and maybe lead to a revival of gothic horror).

A couple of years ago some were writting off the vampire genre as being overtaken by the zombie genre. Never could a genre out for good.

besides the obvious 'communism' the acting was really dated like they just walked out of the theatre. In that '76 movie 'the man who fell to earth' the acting is radically different. I wondered what happened in between was there a movie in say the 60's that invented 'proper' acting or was it a gradual process. I suspect the 50's still has that oldskool thing going on but I'm not sure. I never watch that old B&W stuff seems too dated to take/watch seriously.

I have seen this film many times! I love the Proteus a d, of course, the very attractive Raquel Welch. Everytime the scene where her charater, 'Cora' is brought back aboard the sub after being attacked by the antibodies, one thought races through my mind: "Grab 'em boys! Grab those boppers!"

I wish they’d do a remake, but with today’s Navy Aircraft Carrier being transported back to the Vietnam War. Have like an F-4 Phantom, A1 Skyraider, or F8 Crusader in need of help and lands on the transported Aircraft Carrier. Once there, the pilot can hardly believe what has happened. Later, the Pilot would learn he was shot down over Vietnam and was KIA. Furthermore, he learned he has a grandson on the ship serving in the Navy. Captain tries to inform the DOD what’s going on….but nobody believes him. About the time the Captain orders a strike on certain targets hopefully to end the War quickly, the storm approaches. Ship returns to to port and Grandfather/Grandson leave the ship together to get in a car….to be met with his much older wife. The much older Vietnam Era plane still on the ship has the Navy scratching their heads. Anyways, doesn’t have to be just like that….but something similar would be interesting.

When I saw Bill & Ted in the theater, way back when I was on the cusp of adulthood, I was really struck by the message that with a little of the right guidance and a lot of trust the kids who seem like losers now will not only turn out all right but will ultimately save the future. All these decades later and you just told me Chris Matheson is the son of Richard Matheson which seems like an illustration of that idea.

Loved this when it came out - and I was a fair bit older 😀 Definitely a sci-fi classic as it doesn’t just have hard sci-fi time travel, but social sci-fi considering the question of what would the world be like if only we were excellent to each other? And partied on dude 😎

Yep, I've always loved this one. I think another thing that elevates it is how much improv'ing is going on. The historical personages are usually goofing around during scenes if they don't have lines, leading to some very funny little background bits people probably won't notice without rewatches. (Including one of the most subtle dick jokes ever put in a movie.) I also love the basic implication that Bill & Ted get away with breaking every rule of the time traveler's handbook because they're simply too dumb to understand that everything they're doing should be impossible. Like the "remember a trash can!" bootstrap thing. It only works because Ted doesn't realize it shouldn't work, haha. And yes, definitely cover Critters someday!

Even tho it’s from 1979, i really liked the oft-overlooked “Time After Time” starring Malcolm McDowell as HG Wells himself. It definitely has an ‘80s vibe (moreso than a ‘70s one) and i didn’t see it until around ’83 on TV, so it always seemed more at home in the _Most Excellent_ of decades to me 😁

One time travel bit from the movie you didn't mention was the bit about the watch. I moved that part. Future Ted:Ted, don't forget to wind your watch! Current Ted nods. ...later on when they discovered they were late because the watch had stopped. Current Ted: Then I'll have to remind myself. Ted, don't forget to wind your watch! Past Ted nods.
