Great stuff ! I wish u would show a little on how u tune your drums. So wide open and musical. I know u always say learn how to tune , but your drums sound really good open and loud. Thanks for the videos , keep them coming.

I agree I guess my goal with that video is to get people to learn to tune. So many drummers don't

But no sound coming out your marvelous tuned drums 😂😂😂😂👎🏽👎🏽I will do anything to get the sound that’s in my head. Fuck drums the sound is what’s important. ✌🏽
@erikaylesworth912 ай бұрын
“Pro tip” smh 🤦🏼♂️ this is such a limiting way of thinking and completely disregards other potential sounds. Tell this to the top session players in the industry and watch them laugh at you as they put gaff tape on their drums to record a John Mayer record. While I agree it’s not a substitute for good tuning, sometimes the song or the vibe doesn’t call for wide open drums. Producers/engineers don’t care if you’re using tape or moongels or a queen sized mattress or whatever the fuck else you’re using to get the sound that is needed. It’s all just sounds. Now, that might be “your sound” and that’s perfectly fine if that’s what makes you happy. But drums are not a one size fits all. Music gets a lot more interesting when you think in terms of achieving sounds vs your perceived idea of “what should be”.

Thank for the comment brother. I totally get it. I guess I've just seen so many drummers that don't know how to tune. This video is for them
@miguelsantamaria61632 ай бұрын
I understand but im not agree. I think that you can no use it, but sometimes you only can get the sound that you want with dampening and muffling. It is important to say the Sound that you want.
@Kevodabomb_Media2 ай бұрын
I mean even with proper tuning some people just prefer a more muffled sound. Sure you can tune your reso head higher than your batter which will effectively shorten sustain, but still won’t give you that “thud” like on some vintage 70s records. That being said, there are better solutions than tape. Moon gels, tea towels, those drum cake things, internal mufflers, etc etc.

Yeah its to muffle overtones most often, there are other ways that looks cleaner like moongel or m1 and m80 dampening, but tape is the cheapest.

Nah def guitarist. Bassist usually has to have an amazing ear and know theory cuz 90% of conversations with a guitarist is like Bassist: oh what key are you in? Guitarist: "uhhh..." Bassist: "what chord is that?" Guitarist: "...." Bassist "fuck it just play it again ill figure it out"
@mark5150ty Жыл бұрын
@@josephfriendy1747 you clearly playing with a beginner guitarist. And only 1 bass player out of 100 knows anything about Theory
@josephfriendy1747 Жыл бұрын
@@mark5150ty there are 100 guitarists for every one bassist in any given town that is an actual bassist and not a guitarist who ended up playing bass for a band cuz he was the worst guitarist of the group. The percentage of musically dumb guitarists is much higher then bassists in my opinion, especially when you count the 20+ year olds lol. If you meet a bassist who doesn't know theory or have a great ear, you just met a bad guitarist lol
@mark5150ty Жыл бұрын
@@josephfriendy1747 again you're talkin about beginner guitars, anybody in their twenties is a beginner unless they've actually studied with a good teacher or at University. I've been playing guitar in Memphis and Nashville for over 30 years it's been at least 15 years since I met a bass player that knew what theory was. Can't tell you how many times I've told the band that the song was a 1454 and the bass player and the keyboard player had no idea but the other guitar player jumped right in. I don't know where you're from but I was born and raised in a music town I guess the guitar players here are just built different.

You’re such a hack. You preach to people on here as if you are some master or authority on drums and drumming. You do not even have the basics of stick control, or touch/sound quality. You preach tuning but your snare lugs aren’t in tune with each other and so the drum isn’t even in tune with itself. Why don’t you spend some serious time studying professionals and greats? See what they did/do and then compare that to yourself. Also the stuff on the left makes no difference. One can play left hand lead grooves and fills on any drum or kit. That stuff on the left is cool but doesn’t make you any better of a player.
