He would be 18 inches off the ground before the defender even started to jump with him, his first step towards the basket or towards the cylinder had no equal ! 17 feet and in , he was terrifying ! If you did not have help, you were fucked ! The only player that could have given him trouble was on the same team( I I have to mention who I mean, you do not know 80s Basketball).

Anyone that had the opportunity to see Worthy, would be amazed by his first step. He was a decent defender too. People always think Jordan was the man at NC. But Worthy was the top scorer and rebounder on NC that year. He was also MVP of the championship.

Surprised that people are trying to compare Worthy to LBJ. Totally different players. LBJ may technically be a 3 but he can play 1 through 4 (and I feel he is naturally a 2 on offense with his perimeter attack). LBJ does more on D and creates for others. Worthy was a pure forward who could effectively score in the post (face up or back) in an era of post play. Also he was a devastating finisher- feeding off Magic's passes. Interesting observation... In some ways LeBron would be the product if you merged Worthy and Magic and tossed in a little Barkley to boot.

it would be better if lebron adopted worthy's game. lebron is really a small forward who is trying to act like a shooting guard. the only problem is, his shot isn't good enough. he would be much better off filling in the lanes for alley oops etc...

Worthy could NEVER a #1 or a #2, he was not a Center by any means. Could he play the #4 ? I would say maybe at best, BUT GOD thought " Let me make A lightning quick #3 for all to admire ", nine months later BIG GAME JAMES was Born !
@springfieldbearpatrol2937 Жыл бұрын
@@vincentwinkleblech3614 Coming out of college some were still calling Worthy a power forward, because for the most part Perkins was playing center and also Worthy’s inside game was described as “power moves.” I think Riley and West were smart to define him at the 3 and get him out on the wing a bit more to get steals and start early on the break. This probably hurt his rebounding stats a bit but made The showtime offense so devastating.
@vincentwinkleblech3614 Жыл бұрын
@@springfieldbearpatrol2937 Worthy truly broke the mold of the Forward position at the time.He was not like Tim Duncan or Hakeem( Hakeem was called A Center but played a Power forward like game), no was Worthy like Bird making 22-25 point shots. Worthy was deadly from 17 feet and In. He loved the glass and often relied on it. His explosive first step and fast jumping made him formidable inside for short " Bursts". He could never " Bang with the beasts" but he did not need to, that was not his game at all. HE WAS TRULY A NEW SORT ! Something never seen before.

This why I laugh when ppl say Kobe is in the best ever in the NBA conversation. Magic. Kareem. West. Worthy. Shaq Kobe isn't even a top 5 LAKER
@iknowhatisaw7 жыл бұрын
What's Magic going to say? I'm the greatest? Because of the pressures of social media we rarely get real opinions anymore, people say what they think is the correct answer so they aren't bombarded on social media, basically. I could name 100 guys that u put with Shaq on that team coached by Phil to take Kobe's place and they still win championships. Kobe has mass appeal to drones and sheep that don't know the game, and the sheep now have power of influence thanks to social media
@iknowhatisaw7 жыл бұрын
I felt my overall point was implied and naming every guy individually wasn't necessary. I also feel people assume great players are great at everything. Some great players are terrible as coaches or in front office positions. But my original point is that famous people don't give their genuine opinions because of social media backlash, and the sheep just slurp up the slop that is spewed and label it as gospel. Magic is the greatest PLAYER of all time. He's also smart enough to give compliments that will give him social praise from the masses. Sheep.

James Worthy is by far quicker then LeBron James. LeBron James is stronger , but if you throw it in the post you want Worthy to have it over LeBron. I know I have seen both play. James Worthy was just so quick that first step killed everyone else.

quick is different than fast...I've never seen anyone quicker than Worthy, but in a sprint? LeBron would probably win...comparing them as post players is no comparison at all...compared to Worthy, Lebron barely has one. Worthy is from an era that was all about the post and getting close in. The league is different now

Not fastest like 40 time or running from one end of the court to the other. But fastest basketball speed. Beating you off the dribble or with the spin move.
