I have no idea why but I randomly thought of Zoom and stumbled across this and the memories of ubbi dubbi flooded back, me and my siblings would try to speak it to each other after watching the show! We were awful at it but had a blast trying and poking fun at each other when we'd mess it up! Hats off for the fluent ubbi dubbi, it totally should be a recognized language for applying to college/jobs!

I just found your show in the last few days. Love what your doing! Have only had a chance to listen to 4 episodes but can't be more impressed with your prep work, chemistry & passion. This trib to ONJ was perfect! I'm a superfan of the Stuck in the 80's pod for several yrs - and this is a perfect companion (with a little more stuck in the 70's). Sounds like I'm a few yrs younger than you ladies but my entire childhood is within the 70's & 80's - so I've gotta soft spot for all of this. I need to listen to the Kristy McNichol episodes. She was my OG celebrity crush & in the last few months I've been binging Family on the Tubi app. Bless them for streaming the entire series. I don't think I'd seen it since the 70's & have been blown away at the quality. In this week's Smartless pod (Vince Vaughn as guest), Jason Bateman talks about McNichol being his OG crush & tells a story of being 10 yrs old & suddenly being in tears over McNichol. Amazingly, he never met her

Such great choices: Abba, Al Stewart, Mary MacGregor, David Soul, Rita Coolidge all big parts of my record collection. Winter of 77 was really harsh, and we missed a lot of school. I listened to the radio almost all the time....Dancing Queen, Weekend In New England, Evergreen, Torn Between Two Lovers Rich Girl & Don't Give Up On Us were getting mucho airplay! Love Hotel California! Nadia's Theme was great too.

I never knew Andy & Marie Osmond were romantically linked. I don't believe Andy & Olivia were romantic. She was a fan of the Bee Gees and recorded several of their songs over the years. She recorded duets with Barry as well as Andy. She did have Andy on a couple of her specials. Michael Beck did look like Andy. I remember watching him on Solid Gold, at the time I didn't know he was having personal problems.

My older brother had the 8track of Shadow Dancing, but he didn't play it very often. Some years back, I bought the Greatest Hits cd. IMO Andy had the best voice of any of the Gibbs. Some songs (Desire) don't do much for me, but mostly it's a great collection. I also wish the record company had released Rest Your Love on Me as a single instead of I Can't Help It.

Great choices! I had the Don't Cry Out Loud 45. My older brother had Devil Went Down to Georgia on 8track. My younger brother (John) had the Tragedy 45. He and I listened to Casey Kasem's top 40. He would make his own top 40 charts, but only had 3 singles: Tragedy, I Was Made For Dancing & one by the Little River band. He also had one album by Little River Band. The top 20 was comprised of both sides of each single and every album track on his lp. From about 20 on down it got really interesting...things like a Christmas song from the Perry Como lp, a children's song from our Burl Ives lp, and a Strauss waltz from one of dad's albums! I was hugely into Abba, Blondie, Olivia Newton-John, Crystal Gayle, John Denver and Barry Manilow, and many others!

I think Weekend in New England is my favorite. Music videos were not much of a thing yet, but in my mind the lyrics created a picture ...."long rocky beaches and you by the bay" The winter of '77 was really harsh and we missed a lot of school. I passed the time listening to the radio and this song was in heavy rotation. Special mention to "Ships", I still relate to the lyrics. And the song "All the TIme" just an album cut, but I love it.

I loved Invasion! I was super upset that it did not continue. Where do I sign the petition for this to be finished. My word for Shaun, though there are many, is “THOUGHTFUL”. For all the definitions it has: Meditative-absorbed in or involving thought(characterized by careful reasoned thinking); having thoughts- Heedful-given to or chosen or made with heedful anticipation of the needs and wants of others- showing consideration for the needs of other people; showing careful consideration or attention. Synonymous: attentive, kind, considerate. With that it is reflected in the way he pays attention to the person talking and questions asked, as well as how he thinks carefully about what he will say is response without interrupting to say what he thinks and it is a measure for which he uses in his writing. I have been watching, and reading, a lot of the Cassidy Family. All of them. I am nothing short of impressed with all of them. So much incredible talent and authenticity. I think I love them. All. 😉

Gosh there was a lot to unpack in this movie that I never thought about in depth before. Lol The way I perceived it was that Danny and Sandy met on vacation, and I wouldn't think Danny lived close by because if it was a whole summer romance he would've had lots of time to show her around the area he was from, which would've likely included showing her where he went to school. I'm under the impression that they didn't even discuss much about their lives because Danny would've had to mention his role in high school as being the "bad boy." And as for his persona as the "bad boy" I am torn on that. I think he either was the "bad boy" up to the point of meeting Sandy on vacation and that relationship changed him OR he really was always the sweet genuine guy she fell in love with over the summer. Honestly, I think my second theory holds more weight when you consider that who you portray yourself to be in high school doesn't always align with the true you. I'm one of those people who believes that the "tough guy" and "tough girl" exterior is just a mask to hide the real person because they feel ashamed to be that authentic, especially in teenage years where it's important to fit in. I mean, just look at the other T-Birds and Pink Ladies. They're all pretty normal teenagers trying to figure out who they're supposed to be. None of them are truly as tough on the inside as they portray themselves to be. That leads me to my viewpoint of Danny being the one who really hid his true self the most. Throughout the movie you can see his "bad boy" persona being thrust out to hide the "nice guy" he really is. I think he is truly the guy Sandy met over the summer. Sandy spent an entire school year wrestling with who she fell in love with because he had to put on his fake persona to look cool in front of his friends, who let's be honest, probably wouldn't have given him that much flack for staying true to himself since they were also masking who they really were. But from Sandy's perspective, the Danny at Rydell was a "bad boy" (which is where Hopelessly Devoted showcases her grappling with that realization) and after seeing everyone else's personas, she convinced herself that because it's working for them, it could work for her, too. She's sort of in a bit of culture shock but decided to embrace what the culture seemed to be about in order to be with the guy she fell in love with because that's where she is at this particular moment in her life. I won't dissect the other characters because this is long enough, but I myself see glimpses of who they each really are and how high school pressure is causing them to act as someone different in order to fit in and be relevant. I think this movie does a good job in showing what teens struggle with when it comes to their identities and how it's one of the most important parts in the teen world. As for the ending, I don't have any theories on the flying car, unless the fantasy parts of the movie are used in a way to add to how the characters themselves are feeling in the scene. They obviously aren't really happening, but they are part of the fantastical minds of teenagers. I know as a teen myself I had lots of fantasies because reality was too much to take in a lot of the time. So my guess is that it was based on the fantasies they were having and feeling in their teenage minds. I can't believe this podcast made me think so deeply on one of my favorite movies, but here we are. Lol Also, I will never forget the first time I watched this movie. My aunt rented it while we were staying with her for a week one summer. I think I was 12, maybe 13 or 14, definitely in my early formative teenage years. I'd had simple boy crushes up to this point, but when I saw John Travolta dance for the first time, my jaw dropped open and I felt things I'd never felt before (so embarrassing to admit Lol) and officially had my first celebrity crush. I appreciate running across this in my feed today, and I really appreciated the thoughts and insight you all brought through your own interpretations of it. It has my curiosity piqued now on the topics of your other podcasts so I'm going to go listen to another one!

Great show and topic, ladies. RIP. ONJ she was a beautiful singer and person All due respect though, Jeff Conway's character was a product of his time as well. He was expected to marry Rizzo to be a respectful member of adult American society.then. Abortion wasn't a question. Thats the "worse" thing she could do. Imo. per the dying Sandy theory.... I think about this-- if you really discern closely at the ending flying carnival car scene NOTICE that only ONJ as "bad sandy" is looking back smiling and waving. While Danny Z. Is only seen the back of his head NOT looking at her or back to the gang on the ground. I believe that gives credence to it all being her fever dream. Danny is ONLY part of her earthly fantasy.

Wow, my first time tagging the first like ever and it happened on Ma's interview. In all honesty , I was looking for Melissa Sue Anderson's whereabouts, from time to time when I get nostalgic, l like to look for something from her , she was my childhood - old man crush. But I'm glad I bumped into this interview. Karen Grassle's character was charming and strong at the same time. She was a woman to keep and cherish as a wife. I see that my suspicions were correct. She's just as nice a person as her character... I didn't hear you saying if you'd interview Mary though. Will you?

I knew a person from a mental health therapy group who had the words "hangin' on a hope, but I'm alright" from "I Need To Be In Love" tattooed on her scarred right arm. I recognized where they came from and asked her if she was a Carpenters fan. She said yes and that their music - and "Need To Be In Love" in particular - got her through her severe borderline, anxiety and depressive spells. We bonded over our love of music, swapped personal notes, and remained very close during those sessions until they were over and we went our separate ways... I often think of that girl and wonder what happened to her because she was such a sweetheart... This is one of the number of reasons why Richard and Karen's music - and John Bettis' empathic lyric contributions - have had such a massive impact on people despite the slings and arrows they received from critics over the years...

Oh my gosh I'm commenting off the hook I think Jessica Simpson not only owes Jaclyn Smith a shout-out but clearly Farrah Fawcett!!! For crying out loud look at Jessica Simpson who does she look like not Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke she looks like Farrah Fawcett that is why she was famous.. and by the way I may sound a little bitter but in the 90s when I still enjoyed rocking feathered Farrah hair... and would constantly ask my hairdresser to give me a Farrah but instead she constantly refused talk to me into growing it longer and straighter and would only focus on the "Amanda".. which was basically the Heather Locklear hairdo from Melrose Place... Whenever she would say I'm giving you the Amanda I'm like how about the Sammy Joe😅😊😅...
