Good video but removing the middle screw to get the slider out is unnecessary and also does void the warranty on the knife. All you have to do is lift the slider and rotate it slightly to remove it. There is a very large card with a QR code in the bottom of the kit with a specific video on full disassembly and maintenance instructions on the Luminary. 👍🏼

@@juliocanosa431 they are hard to find and are specific to that model only. I would check to see if anyone made aftermarket screws (sometimes they have titanium) or you may have to find some china screws. Interesting how they appear to use the same type of surface interface as the Deadlock to achieve no blade play. How’re they getting away with that? Lol. Is that not part of their patented design? Unless they’re licensing the design from the Hawks which would be quite lucrative for them for sure.
@TheHollowGrind3 ай бұрын
Patents are a funny thing. It all depends on the verbiage of the Deadlock patent. The curved piece is not integrated into the handle, so if they discuss a "metal part mounted to the handle" and you develop a handle with a groove that acts in the same way like in this case, that could be a way around the patent potentially.
@Adamas113 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing. When are these going to be released? Hopefully these don’t bump out my deadlocks 😭

They are available now as a kit with a Surefire flashlight; the retail is $1500 for the kit. I assume the non-kit versions of this knife and others may be available soon but I am unsure. I expect the non-kit versions to retail in the $400 - $600 range depending on the model.

Simple and smart! It's just a little bulb that slides on a rail that interfaces with the blade and locks it~ I also like that the blade "tang" wraps around the glass breaker section, probably so that they can get a little more blade length out of it!
@TheHollowGrind3 ай бұрын
I don't think that has anything to do with the blade length, but I do think it was a way to decrease the handle length by integrating the glassbreaker and lanyard between the tang.

Anybody else expecting something more...profound? Lol. Cool video though, I've been dying to see what they did for the new zero blade play stuff
@TheHollowGrind3 ай бұрын
It probably started complex, and after much R&D Microtech was able to simplify it. It takes a lot of engineering to simplify an idea or to even come up with a way for it to work in such a simple way. If you think about it, it took 23+ years to get to this point (not including the Deadlock, Burn, and Shrike knives). I was expecting something complex and was surprised once we took a peak inside.
@jski19903 ай бұрын
I'm happy with simple! I'm assuming the blade stop is slightly eccentric so you can clock it differently to adjust the fitment of the lockup? It looks beveled and it wedges itself into the frame and blade lock?
@TheHollowGrind3 ай бұрын
@@jski1990 The bottom of the stop pin where it slides through the groove is bowl shaped, so when it gets to the front of the handle the groove pushes the stop pin up and to the right to get that solid lockup.

@TheHollowGrind3 ай бұрын
The Luminary is Microtech's first release OTF with zero blade play. The way this is achieved might seem simple but this is backed by a lot of time for research and development. The engineers at Microtech are skilled at taking a complex idea and making it very simple but effective. The mechanism has a few intricate parts that all work together and it appears that it can be tuned when/if needed. We are impressed.

Awesome choice. I’ve had a few 3.5” xm’s in full ti and I feel line they were just too bulky for me these days. I got spoiled with my QC drift v2 and have fallen hard for 3” blades. In going to buy a 3” harpoon xm soon along with a 3” Mac 2 to compare to my Mac 2 3.5”. I have the small and large QC drift and the small gets more carry time. I do need to buy an eklipse soon. Fun size or small, I don’t care. It’s a compact enough profile that the 3.5 would be great still.
@TheHollowGrind4 ай бұрын
I carried an XM-24 (too big), and a 3.5" skinner, but I just love the 3" hinderers (fit my pocket better). We have the 3" harpoon tanto xm-18s in stock currently, so if you do want one check them out (and use the coupon code we have for 10% off). I like the Eklipse but the downside for me is the lack of a lanyard loop (I use it to attach the keychain for my car key).

@@TheHollowGrind I’m the opposite. Not a lanyard guy by any means. I haven’t owned a 24, but I do own a strider SmF and it’s a dedicated work knife. Definitely too big for daily carry.
