Stags are one of the most gnarly looking beetles out there. The mandibles aren't strong enough to do any damage to a person, but they sure are awesome to look at.

I just witnessed one for the first time, it flew into something and seemed to have disoriented itself for a bit then got back up and started bumping into more things.

They're not really made for flying, they're heavy and too big for their wings. In fact, they hit everything when they fly.

I love stag beetles, and that's a very good slowmotion record of their flight... little I knew that they can fly in reverse.
