That still doesn’t make sense because it would still work with two negatives

square root √x is a function and a function can only output one single number for x. It's just defined that way
@pleasedont743923 күн бұрын
@@tulikaslt490 Another way is to explain is that, in a function, vertical test is important. Having a side ways parabola which happens if we say x=+/-3 as a result of √9 would not satisfy this test, which means it's not a function.
@PuffyRhys23 күн бұрын
@@pleasedont7439 the vertical line test is just saying you can’t have two outputs for one input. That’s the only reason it exists at all. It’s also why the vertical line test doesn’t matter for parametric equations. I also don’t know who came up with this rule because it’s also no very true since many equations satisfy having two valid answers for an input of x

That's why we put a ± sign in front of the √, because the square root function itself only outputs the positive value

The number of permutations, as in ways to arrange a collection of objects. For example, how many ways are there to stack 4 playing cards? There's 4 choices for the card on the bottom. After choosing that, there's 3 choices left for the next card. Then 2 choices, then 1. The number of possible permutations is 4 * 3 * 2 * 1, which is 24.
