It was such a nice detail when Ashfur was so happily imagining Bramble killing Squirrel out of anger after he found out about the truth. Shows really well how f-ing unhinged Ash was and how natural it was for him that murering the ones who supposedly wronged you was the right andswer and what everyone else would do as well.

just wanted to say i *love* the fake-out of the green eyes in the bushes behind ashfur turning out to be squirrelflight instead. its a really cool subversion of a common visual trope in ashfur-focused content

I don’t know if this is intentional, but the fact the squirrel in the opening shot is near ashfur implies it has toxoplasmosis, which is a parasite that makes rodents lose their sense of fear, which makes them easier to hunt for cats. Which would be a super neat metaphor of ash as a parasite and squilf unaware whilst she was courting him in the earlier books :3
