I think in the case of Sailor Moon it's even ok, since it was one of the first animes to feature a group of warrior girls. Besides, not only the colors, but their planets say a lot about their personalities.

I feel like that's mainly bc they just don't know their power's full potential. They're new to using magic and battling. Also, the characters are usually preteen-teenage girls. So they won't know too much...! :)

I have a precure and there’s only 3 girls lol 😭😭 ( red is basically pink but w some yellow/blue attributes, she cares a lot about everything and everyone.. blue is multicolored and also mean as hell, she’s intelligent and a bastard, and the third girl is technically pink? but is also blue?? and yellow?? girl is too silly. They’re all from a star-kingdom and their purpose is to save the princess from the dark or something.. the princess however, has *become* the dark. )

Also for my magical girls au, when I was writing the yellow one, she was originally going to be cis and straight and does not support lgbtq. ( it kinda suits her bc she is so judgmental) but I wrote her as cis and bi bc I do not like villains being portrayed like that bc I have to make it diverse and not supporting and respecting LGBTQ is not a crime!
