I think getting benefits is probably as hard as it should be, for those who need it. In order to prevent people taking advantage of this, I would say harsher punishments are needed as a deterrent.

This happens a lot in the USA. There are fraudsters in every country that offers welfare benefits. I used to be a workers compensation adjuster, and we used to catch a lot of con artists that would like to get workman's compensation benefits for an injury. We had a guy who claimed to be disabled, but we caught him recruiting people to join his soccer team. He was jumping around and kicking the ball. But he told me the day before that he was in a lot of pain and that he needed someone to help him clean his house!

My brother claims ssi and he doesn't even live in the US. He lives in Mexico, he comes to the US every 3 years to go to the doctors to prove he needs his SSI. My grandma is his payee and she is happily helping him. While I've been trying to get his SSI taken from him.

So we live in Australia.. this year 2023 our 23 year old son announced he wanted to move to the uk and start his oe.. he arrived on his own on the youth mobility visa. He had paid for an air bnb room until he found work and a home. He did go with savings. We werent dumb enough to send him without money and we know if it got bad he could come home. He had a job within 4 days and 7 months later still there doing plumbing maintenance. Something he has never done. And he now has shared accommodation in Wimbledon. I ask him what its like in comparison to here.. he thinks food is really cheap but everything else is expensive. And he sees poverty everywhere. But he also said his boss was desperate for workers and could hardly get anyone especially locals. And before any one says hes gone over and stolen jobs.. hes contributing to a tax system that he has no rights to himself.. and that goes towards these benefits for those locals that didnt want to work...

I live in the US, I had a neighbor that was trying to milk the system with a fake disability. I kept telling her it’s wrong we’re in our late 30’s it’s not worth it, it’s wrong, it’s not enough money….blah,blah. Well she got it for a couple years, til they filmed her raking leaves in her yard and lifting tables and chairs for her backyard Autumn party. Now she’s working to pay back restitution and fines, and barely scraping by.

A couple living next door to me were on benefits even though the guy was working full-time with the Council. She was a lazy cow who got the benefits by saying she lived alone. One day she asked me if I'd like to go to the mall with her and asked me to pay for the petrol for her car (I didn't). I suggested we have a coffee when we got there and she said let's just get a soft drink from the supermarket!!

Seems like part of the issue for the benefits cheaters is the council or social security administration dont follow up with the forms, to see if the medical issue at hand is true and if its signed by a real doctor, or if a car accident or any accident has occured..It seems like the cheaters word is believed, and the benefits providers believe the forms are true and accurate..Obviously the #1 issue is that people fake medical issues etc to begin with..but the lack of follow up is clearly the reason it keeps happening..Even the people that are supposed to be legit like homeowners etc have a scam going on too, alot of people have their scams and opperations going on to make money!! Pitiful that people resort and live like this!!
