shouldn't a card get drawn at 3:05 after the bonus card?
@alisonfrane67582 күн бұрын
You are correct. As happened previously, when Leila has just drawn a card as a reward for the bonus, she forgets to draw for her turn (Kristin reminded her the first time, though!) Luckily Fluxx is a very chill game, and this obviously made no difference to their enjoyment. Good catch, though!

Can we play Nomids with the Arcade? Is the Nomids game dice included in this kit?
@alisonfrane67584 күн бұрын
Everything you need to play Nomids is included in Pyramid Arcade... except the rulesheet, since the game was invented after Pyramid Arcade was published. The rules for Nomids (and many other games!) are available online.

Thank you for this. I am getting some friends to do this for the first time and watching a real game in action is crucial for me to get it right while moderating for them. I was thinking of adding a random resurrect feature to give those out of the game and chance to possibly re-enter as a random character.
@alisonfrane675812 күн бұрын
We would not suggest this. The game ends because of attrition, and if you bring people back, it will become too easy to figure out who the werewolves are. The game is usually fairly short (and if it's not, you can institute a daytime timer with a deadline by which the village must make a decision, or they don't get to eliminate someone), and it can be fun for the "dead" people to watch the nighttime proceedings.

The ungoal says 5 zombies cards, must be in play for the zombies to win. Does this mean the zombie quartet gets treated as one zombie card or four cards?
@alisonfrane675818 күн бұрын
Since the Ungoal specifies _cards_ the Zombie Quartet is treated as one card. When a card says to count Zombies, count the individual Zombies pictured, but when something says to count Creepers, or Zombie _cards_ count the number of cards. We didn't want it to be TOO easy for the Zombies to win!

Is there anyway you can play with the expansions…. Or an ubersolonaut game perhaps if that is possible. I would just like to see more play time with the solo variant in general. Please. 🙏🏾
@alisonfrane675818 күн бұрын
@@KaramelKushhh I don't think I've tried playing with the expansions, but it seems like it would be much the same. Would it be harder because the cards needed are more dispersed, or easier because IDs are less likely to conflict? Is that even true? I don't know. Not sure how things might need to be adjusted for UberSolonauts. With twice as many cards in the deck, would one try to get twice as many people home? That sounds challenging! A further barrier to this is that we no longer have a video person on staff, so we haven't been making new videos. While I could probably manage to set up something to film with my camera from one angle only (probably overhead), I think there would still need to be extensive editing to cut it all together so the video doesn't take forever. This video took hours and hours to shoot, and I'm pretty sure it took Eric even more hours to edit down, and even if we knew how, none of us currently have the time! But I'm excited that you like Solonauts! Try these variants yourself and let us know how it goes in our Looney Labs "chatter" group!

Hmm. This is not a game but an activity for kids. None of the choices are meaningful. Can't win or loose.
@alisonfrane67585 ай бұрын
Yup. It is absolutely an activity not a game (just as many might argue RPGs, despite the "G", aren't really games either, since there isn't technically a way to win or lose). This is why the title of the video is "How to Play with" not "How to Play," and why Looney Labs does not describe it as a "game" but a "fortune telling toy." Frankly, it was difficult to pick quite the right words to describe it, since "toy" does make it sound childish. You probably feel that's an appropriate descriptor, but obviously anyone can use it, like, for example, role-players of any age. Though the results might not be "meaningful" to you, they can mean as much as someone wants them to mean. Looney Labs does absolutely acknowledge the advice cards are "cryptic." Anyhow, this video represents the product pretty well, and shows off its implementation on Roll20. If it's not what you dig, you can steer clear. 🙂

Nice. I've been getting into solo RPGs, and one of the things you need to spice things up is a good oracle to give your stories unexpected twists. Probably going to look into this.
@LooneyLabs4 ай бұрын
That is wonderful to hear! We would love to learn how it works for you. May we use your lovely comment in a social media post about Looney Oracle?
@CPFace4 ай бұрын
@@LooneyLabs Sure, you can use my comment if you like. As for how I'd use it in a solo RPG, there are a number of ways to use these decks to answer questions that you might ask a DM. Here's an example. Let's say I'm playing a fairly standard game of D&D. I'm traveling to a destination, and I want to have a random encounter on the way. I draw three cards from the Oracle deck - Sandwiches, Theme Park, and The Bicycle. Taken literally, none of these ideas really fit the setting, but I can sort of draw from their vibes to create a scene. From the bicycle, I gather that I've met some travellers, perhaps with a novel form of transportation. From the theme park, I gather that they're travelling *performers*. And from the sandwiches, I gather that I've come across them as they're stopping for a meal. I ask the deck "Are they friendly?" Drawing from the Answer deck, I get "Very Doubtful." My guard is up. I can feel their eyes on me. Nevertheless, I venture to ask them a question. "Is there any news from the road?" I decide to gauge their reaction by drawing from the Advice deck. I get "Always have a Plan B." There's thieves on the high road, they warn. Best find another path forward. I thank them and set off before I wear out my welcome. The nice thing about this kind of oracle is that the responses it gives are up to interpretation, so you're never going to get the same answer twice. Even if you draw the same cards, the context and your own mood is always going to shape them into something else. It takes your imagination to places it might not have otherwise gone. You could also use these decks as a completely standalone storytelling game, similar to Rory's Story Cubes. You could draw an Advice card to get a theme for your story, then lay out some Oracle cards and try to link the images in those cards together into a story.

Excellent - but at 3:35 why did you not dig the small piece upright where it was to win? Am I missing something here?
@alisonfrane67586 ай бұрын
Because this is a tutorial, not a game. Andy isn't playing against anyone, so he's not trying to get his pieces matching ASAP. He's just showing off the different kinds of moves. If he'd chosen to DIG the small in place, yes, he would have won, if it were a game, but he still hadn't shown the viewer HOP. He probably didn't realize that his situation offered a winning option on the DIG (one example too early). He was just running through example scenarios, and hadn't finished yet. Ideally he'd have planned his examples more precisely so they didn't offer that confusing non-winning play.

Two questions. Can you move past a portal on a move or do you have to activate it? And, do you remove the remaining goals from the deck after the first 5?
@alisonfrane67586 ай бұрын
The rulesheet says (under Types of Spaces) that when you land on a Portal, you are instantly teleported to the other one. You could, of course, then spend a move to "step" back to the one you landed on, and continue on your merry way, but you can't just pass through it as though it were an Octagon or Leaper space. As for whether you remove the remaining Goals after the first five, no. You pull five Goals from the deck (it doesn't really matter whether they're the "first" five since you're going to reshuffle the remainder of the deck before you deal out hands), and you leave the rest of the Goals in the deck to be possibly dealt into hands or drawn on people's turns. In the rules (under Collecting Goals) it says, "If all the cards in the Goal stack are gone, it simply remains empty until more Goals are played." Obviously it would be impossible to play more Goals if you removed all of the Goals except those first 5 from the deck. Frankly, however, I've found that most of the time, when the Goal stack is empty, nobody wants to play a Goal out there for anyone to get, they mostly play Goals only when they are already in a position to gain them instantly when played from their hand. Here's a link to the rulesheet if KZbin will let me include it here: www.looneylabs.com/lit/rules/fluxx-board-game-compact-edition-rules

I'm just discovering Homeworlds now and I think there is an even easier solution for Andy. First move is sacrifice medium red at homeworld for two attacks at John's homeworld taking both the red and a green. Now John can't grow another green as then there would be 4 greens and any call of catastrophe would be a loss, he also can't swap the colour of his last small green because then next turn Andy would just take it as he has a red in the system, again leading to a loss. This means the only options are for John to do something to put the pressure on Andy with his other ships. At best John could move a single red to Andy's homeworld either via simple move or medium yellow sacrifice which is just too slow as Andy could just take the remaining homeworld piece again for the win. John could trade the medium yellow to another colour, but that is just way too slow, leaving Andy enough time to pick off the remaining homeworld ship, so is once again a non-starter. The only remaining moves are to get reds back to his own homeworlds, but given the positions of them there is no way to get two reds back in one turn meaning Andy can pick them off one at a time. Even if John can cause a catastrophe it will only be in red or green and include all of his homeworld ships, which would be an instant loss. I think from the above the medium red homeworld sacrifice opener from Andy puts John in a truly unwinnable situation very easily and with very little room for maneuver.

How many pieces per grouping are you allowed to use when creating the first two examples? Can you use 8 pieces in a grouping just to throw someone off?
@LooneyLabs10 ай бұрын
Hi @annamonarrez2775! Yes, you could use 8 pieces in a grouping when creating the first two examples if you want to. There is no limit to the number of pieces in any particular structure. That said, the moderator's job is more like a GM... a leader, not a nemesis. As moderator, you are making sure that everything is clear and correctly marked. As these rules are trickier than they seem, you are more likely to want to help the players with a counterexample that is useful when they are at a loss, than throw them off right at the beginning. We hope you have fun playing Zendo!
