How did you get up to Burns glacier? Hike up from Portage Lake?
@randalbladel28176 ай бұрын
the type of skiing we are doing this time of year. Have skied at least two of the three places shown heard. Not sure what Whittier pass is. Maybe the same as Portage pass. Good times.

Where’s Whittier pass? Is that the Portage pass trail?

Yep! Accessed from Portage Lake. You definitely have to first make sure the ice is safe!

If you like squirrels, could build safety bunkers. That squatty tree was useless for the squirrel.

I am very sad for the squirrel because I adopted one since he was 4 weeks old found on my backyard and I adore him and all squirrels.

Coming from an expert tele guy here, to do this smooth on skate skis, require soft/wet snow conditions which the guy has, but even then, to do it repeatedly smoothly and effective like he did is close to impossible.

Juvenile lynx, I think... and he's a bit distracted, like he's not completely commited. He looks fit enough, so he probably wasn't really hungry... but the instinct is there. The squirrel is completely out-classed, and knows it. I would suspect that the squirrel sustained some internal damage in that first fury of blows (in the tree), because it is moving pretty sluggishly after that. The time to move, for the squirrel, was when the cat moved away to play king of the grass. It's clear at that point that the squirrel simply doesn't have anything left. For a moment there, I thought the lynx was going to get bored and leave. Maybe the lynx thought about it. Instinct wins in the end though. For the lynx, dinner and a movie.

You can see why some prey animals freeze or play dead. The lynx briefly lost interest a few times.

How can you float on the deep pow’ ? 😳
@randalbladel2817 Жыл бұрын
That’s not powder. It’s crust with a bit of loose on the top. 41 mm nordic racing skis would have to go awful fast to float in deep powder. Judging the time to ski on crust days like this is crucial. You have to be there in the morning, and hit the snow when the top starts to get soft enough to grab an edge of these racing skis which do not have metal edges, and you have to quit when it becomes soft enough that you are punching through the crust with poles and skis, which can make for some interesting falls. Crust season is such fun. Lots of sun, warmer, and most if not all of the racing is over for the year.

Awesome. I thought the skate skis would be too stiff and cut right through the deep snow and sink. Or are you using classic skis with the kick wax removed?

For anyone who sees this and thinks it looks too hard to learn i used to think that as well until i tried it. I just went up the mountain one day and put some music on and grinded starting doing just single turns and then connecting them and learned how to do this actually pretty well in about 3-4 hours. Was linking turns going down a black slope by the end and by god is it satisfying. Was on rental gear cause i don’t ski enough to justify ownership and was on classics. Idk if they are easier or harder
U should have the prey when u find him in danger..nature gave u chance to show how good human u were.but u kept filming n showed u are useless

I’d really like to know, what makes it a challenge to ski downhill with Nordic skis? Ignorant, and asking.
@mikoajszostek1265 Жыл бұрын
They're extremely difficult to handle because they're narrow, they don't have metal edges and your heel isn't attached to the ski
@rydenkaye9735 Жыл бұрын
Just looking at them you’d never know but boy do you find out as soon as you put em on. I’ve been doing nordic since i was like 4 but i mainly do downhill and it’s still hard going back. As the other guy said it’s narrowness and an unfixed heel and uncurved edges
