With your suggestions & tips of using this method to whistle, how much of the tongue is being manipulated by the lower lip? Does your bottom jaw have to stick out further than the top lip? How much does moving the top lip affect the whistle?

When my brother was younger, he could do it so loud you could hear ringing in your ears. Now he does this so loud it can burst your ear drum if he does it in a closed space. It just takes time to figure out how loud you can go.

Awesome. You're the best. Been practicing for about 3 weeks. I am very certain I have it based upon your description. So cool. Now I am working on volume and I am making progress. I think more volume comes with practice to strengthen the muscles.

This man is a true grand master of whistling and dammit if he didn't drop that duck bill face reference like those girls take those selfies and said raise the eyebrows and never cracked a smile!! Damn! I would have been laughing at my own joke for a second there but he didnt even smile. Impressive but not as impressive as his whistling ability but still impressive and I would think hard to do but look at his face as he says it. Doesn't even stifle a smile which means he didn't even think what he said was at all funmy... Unless he is one of the guys who you say something funny to and everyone else is laughing except him and when asked if he thought it was funny he agrees but yet never laughs.... His dedication to whistling is to be reapected and feared

I have been wanting to learn how to do this for my entire life but then I keep forgetting until I hear someone do it and it reminds me how badass it sounds and while the two finger style is equally as amazing, the fingerless loud whistle to me is the apex of a human's ability to make this type of noise which is fascinating.... At 43 I believe learning this whistle is much easier than my other wish of learning how to break dance 80s style with the windmills and all that but I probably have no chance at that ever in my life and again it is probably because I have the attention span of a gnat and the intellectual prowess of a soggy cheeto so even learning how to whistle would be a milestone worthy of being etched on to my tombstone when I leave this mortal realm... a hell of a lot cooler than what they might have if I don't learn how to whistle ... something like "here lies Josh it is amazing the poor son of a bitch could even walk upright with that marble smooth brain he was gifted" So hopefully I can remember to try to learn this whistle so I can be whistling at all hours of the night loud without provocation or purpose and I just need to remember to practice .. people that are great at certain things didn't just try it once and were a grand master and if they were then it was an isolated incident but most have to practice and practice often because if you don't use it you lose it... When I was young in high school I was a phenomenal basketball shooter but that is all I would do in my down time and my friend down the road from me would always be dribbling the ball but never shooting and he had sick handles whereas I couldnt even dribble enough to create space enough to get an open shot but unless you block it then 9 out of 10 it was going in..... I once made 47 three pointers in a row at my house I had the line painted on the driveway at regulation but this was not in a game nor was I gaurded and then I just didnt shoot ball anymore after I left my parents house and when circumstances later in life had me move back with them for a time my goal was still up and I went shoot a few with my nefew and my muscle memory in my arms is no longer there and missed almost every shot I attempted which sucked but my stroke and release felt strange and it used to be so fluid I wouldnt even think about it and could judge distance without thinking about it you just launch it and no matter where you shot from it always seemed to have enough on it to make the shot or hit the rim.. At the state fair in 2002 me and my girlfriend at the time went with her friend and her boyfriend and he was going on and on how good he could shoot so we at the game with the bent rim and he has spent close to $50 missed every shot and the whole time he is shooting Im pulling my arms behind my back then try to hug myself tight and just trying to maje my arms warm and loose because it was in the low 20s ib January it was freezing and I knew I could not do shit with stiff arms so finally I told my girl go tell the man the prize u want when I win it here in a second. She didnt doubt me and went pick out the husky and keep in mind these stuffed animals are cheap made filled with styrofoam pellets but they are massive and they only had 6 of them to pick from but the one she wanted was 5' tall at the head just a big toy... Her friends boyfriend said you aint winning shit you saw how many times I tried... The shots were a dollar a try but I talked the guy into giving me a practice shot that if I made would still count to win and he agreed to it. I shot the ball like it was a normal goal and missed but I saw what happend when I missed so I let the ball go real soft and a little higher and boom! Nothing but net. She got her husky.. Boyfriend was still talking you just got lucky . I told his girl go tell the man which one you want. She did. Same thing. Nothin but net. Boyfriend was all yea but last year I did this last year I did that. Finally I told him "Bro chill out. I did it this year. Just now. With $2. Think it was luck? I'll clean this dude out with $5 right now just to show you it aint luck." The fair guy was like no man come on man this is all I have for the whole weekend and it is friday night... So I didnt. Now what does me shooting ball have to do with whistling? Not one damn thing except for the fact that I was once a long distance sharp shooter who fell out of practice and now I havent shot in years and suck even worse than last time I tried but whistling is not nearly as muscle memory oriented you or at least me needs to practice so that is what Im gonna do

My dad is the loudest whistler at any event we have ever gone to. I've tried to do this since I was like 10... I can make a sound but it isn't consistent and when I try to get louder. It just sounds like a high pitched wind coming out lol I really don't think my mouth can do it and it's based on individual anatomy. Just like someone born without hands and feet can't really swim. They can kind of swim. Just float as the baseline and the more you try to swim the worse it gets.

Hmmm, must be the shape of one's mouth, teeth etc because your th sound did nothing at all. Another guy said use the f sound , didn't work either. The sh in she sound did work for me almost instantly but it gave me a headache practicing it. I'd say watch a bunch of video's because one may work for you over the others.

The terms "apical", "laminal", "sub-apical" and "sulcal" are very useful when learning all the different T and TH and S and C and R sounds in languages, i'd find it helpful if musicians and beatboxers learned them 😅 Is the tip of my tongue apical? Laminal? At the alveolar ridge? Or dental? Not quite dental or alveolar? Is the back of my tongue supposed to be tense or lax? I can whistle using only my tongue and larynx, not even my lips are involved - but it sounds like a tea kettle and I only get pitch and volume, no clean notes or distinguishable vowel formants. Alternatively I can make my TH and S sounds whistle, in my toothless old man voice, which has led to accidental perfect whistles. Still cant quite get it down. Maybe I need to get a tin of chewing tobacco and a job peanut farming with some Mexicans, one day it'll just happen and I'll forget i ever couldn't do it before...
