So true. I became ill trying to mask for so long. I’m glad I can understand myself better. It is rough navigating a world not meant for you.

Hey. Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to Canada. I just wanted to say, on an earlier episode one of you mentioned missing American Football in the summer. Well…check out the CFL. Canadian football is similar to, but not quite the same, as American football (kind of like anglophone Canadians). It is also played during the summer.

Thank you for the podcast! Interestingly, about the X in Xmas. The letter X looks a lot like the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter in Christos. You see this in the Chi-Rho Christogram that looks like a P through an X. You also see chi and rho in early paintings and mosaics of Jesus where he's making chi and rho finger-symbols. These both go back to first couple centuries of Christianity, and if I remember correctly, Xmas has been used for a millennium or so as well. I agree with your assessment of turkey - it tends to be dry. And I don't like potato or cranberries or most of the rest of usual anglo-NA Christmas food. I've always had difficulty with Christmas dinners because of that, taking a smol symbolic dollop of mashed potato, alongside a pile of turkey (specifically dark meat) and a dinner roll. My mother-in-law is French Canadian so that family serves tourtière for Christmas lunch. My husband has made roast duck on occasion. That's interesting about firs vs pines - in Canada, for the people who use real trees as Christmas trees, we mostly use Balsam or Douglas fir trees. Balsam firs smell more and better (which I really like), but Douglas firs keep their needles on a bit longer. The advantage of firs is that the needles are nice and short, so it's easier to put the decorations on. Most of our pines have long needles that look luscious outside in the snow, but not as much inside.

This is how I am, my brain is going a million miles an hr but I have no issue sitting. Its one of the reasons Opiates/Opioids are an issue for me because they slow me down and calm my mind so I can relax. 🫤

I also feel I have to be in control of my rage to protect my family and friends. I feel that every time I lose control (even for a second), someone gets hurt. So I internalise and suppress/control.

Anthony's experience sounds so familiar. As a late identified autistic (and ADHD) I found NHS culture to be problematic and sometimes toxic. This comes from some management, not colleagues. What happened to poor Oliver McGowan and his family is a prime example of that culture (allegedly). Also, the training has to be the right kind with correct, up to date terminology and evidence.

NHS mandatory training often uses outdated/harmful terms and rhetoric.

In response to the part where you talk about wasting potential of people in school. I always think of the scene from doctor who (The rings of Akhaten) with Claras leaf. Here's the script - CLARA: This leaf isn't just the past, it's a whole future that never happened. There are billions and millions of unlived days for every day we live. An infinity. All the days that never came. And these are all my mum's. DOCTOR: Well, come on then. Eat up. Are you full? I expect so, because there's quite a difference, isn't there, between what was and what should have been. There's an awful lot of one, but there's an infinity of the other. (The leaf turns into energy.) DOCTOR: And infinity's too much, even for your appetite.

I cry every time I see that scene. This is for me what the ∞ logo represents.

This is the experience for a lot of us. Especially late diagnoses. Atleast through her 2010s, uk schools would ignore kids who struggled along as they weren’t a problem. The issue runs deep. Hope it changed for the next generation atleast.
