I am getting picky about the conferences that I attend now. Only going to ones that have educational content and not sales pitches, or thinly veiled sales pitches. I also go for the networking, to meet up with friends and colleagues to share wins, struggles, ask questions about what works/doesn't work for them, etc. That's the most valuable part of why I attend conferences honestly. The hallway chats. So far this year I've attended Pax8 Beyond, ASCII Edge, and TechCon Unplugged. Each one a little different than the other, and all were valuable. I don't think I'll be attending any others this year. DattoCon last year was one big sales pitch, outside of Autotask Community Live which had some useful info. IT Nation Connect was awful, one huge sales pitch no educational value, and lame after-hours party (even though that isn't why I am there nor really care too much about it). Plus Orlando is not fun or appealing to me.

I don't go to these events anymore. Very little, if any value. I can learn a lot more by watching videos like yours. I've bought your templates before and I like the idea of an all inclusive plan. I just need to get my shit together to focus and get more value. Nealy there!

Ah man, thanks for this! It gives me some hope haha Perhaps some accountability in the all inclusive route would help? Or maybe, more direction / focus rather than ‘hey here’s EVERYTHING you should be doing’ ?

@@NotaBusinessCoach I'm not sure which way would work better, I guess trial and error to see how it goes? Have you thought about an everything included plan, with an implementation plan/timeline/task list? Maybe fee per month option as well alongside annual? I enjoy going to events when I can to catch up with other MSP's and I get value from speaking to these MSP owners and asking them questions etc. I just wish I had space to take my gimbal with me to the uptime event yesterday but packed light. My next video is dropping tomorrow.

Definitely worth bringing it along to the next one! You can shoot a video whilst you're there, even if you don't speak. Just capture what's going on around you and then do a voiceover when you're back home to explain what you thought of it. Glad to see you back on the video train dude!

I considered going to this one (and another last week) after not bothering to go to any mainland events for years. Not sure what I’d get out of them though other than being sold to, and changing stack is a pain! Networking with peers would be good but to be honest it’s the same people I speak to on forums 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for saving me the (IOW) ferry fare plus travel time!! - Andrew

😁 Very welcome! As lovely as networking with peers is, I do feel like it’s a very costly (time and money) thing to do, particularly to get to central London from here. The events I’ve been going to around content creation as so much more energetic and valuable - here’s people who are walking the walk and being successful at it. Going to Pax8 Beyond next month so will see what that’s like!

@@NotaBusinessCoach I did. I watched the entire thing. I couldn't agree more. I do like going to conventions and recommend them but this video is gold. Doing any marketing is important. I call this positive procrastination. Doing work and learning marketing without doing "marketing". The one thing I will say conventions do help with is getting people excited and encouraged to go do the work. You and I are in similar spaces. Keep up the good work.

I definitely see how this tactic would work with something like coaching, but I'm skeptical about whether or not it would work for an MSP 🤔 Did you try this with your own MSP?
@NotaBusinessCoach
@NotaBusinessCoach Ай бұрын
I didn't have the chance to try - but I know other MSP owners who are using the same technique successfully. Reduce availability = increase in demand. Doesn't matter what product or service you have to offer.

Just switched from Dashlane to Keeper. We use IT Glue as well for documentation. However, MyGlue is not very good. So far so good with Keeper, I have been looking for a good password keeper. It is offered through Atera's App Center as a 14-day trial.

Hi Pete, we are currently using SyncroMSP right now and are considering making a switch over to either HaloPSA or Accelo. Is there a product you may recommend over the other. Our IT stack is CW RMM(ASIO) now as we moved away from syncro for the MSP, right now syncro is only handing ticketing, billing and we don't want to use CW Manage as we just didn't like it. any input is greatly appreciated.

I also like to block out my whole day so I know where I'm meant to be and what I'm meant to be doing. That being said, I found planning every item out (especially with a young family, as I'm sure you can appreciate) to sometimes be impossible to stick to. As a compromise now I use wider time blocks partnered with a to do app, in my case Todoist. For instance, I block out 6am to 9am in my calendar as 'Morning Routine'. I then have a reoccurring task in Todoist titled the same, that includes all the things I need to do in that period i.e make my sons breakfast, make my breakfast, empty the dishwasher, wash my baby sons bottles, clean down, take vitamins, hydrate, travel to the gym, train, return home, drop the kids at school/ grandparents. All these activities need doing in that calendar 'block' but each to do isn't set to a specific time. I also do the same for work, using typically 90 min blocks and I'll create a to do for that work block and again the same for an 'Evening Routine'. It achieves the same end as blocking off the whole day but allows for some more flexibility within that window. It also prevents the weird shame of, 'oh no I haven't made my breakfast by 07:02 - now I'm behind'. As long as the jobs get done in that block, the actual time itself doesn't matter too much.

You’re 100% right - there is only so much detail appropriate for a calendar. I think the level of detail appropriate is whatever you need timely prompts / notifications for moving onto to the next event or time constraints / time boxing. Otherwise the detail you’re referring to is best for either the notes section of the calendar event or a linked reminder that you can easily jump to for reference. Fantastical can show iOS reminders/tasks within the app, so that’s an option.

Do you use a separate calendar to do the blocking/design?
@NotaBusinessCoach
@NotaBusinessCoach Жыл бұрын
I did initially, but then it's always best to move it to your actual calendar so you can stick to it. If you have time where you want to reserve for customer calls, you can still block it off in your calendar, but change the Free/Busy setting to 'Free', so that people can still book time with you. Hope that helps!

@@NotaBusinessCoach Thanks for replying and sharing your insights. The way I thought it would work is that the blocking serves more as a design and the tasks will sort of be filled in as an overlay. I'm still completely new to this.
