Today, I saw a white and gold model sell for $30 (before buyer's premium and taxes) from Gardner Galleries auction house in London, Ontario, Canada. Those models look really cool with a unique design that reminds me a bit of drive-in movie theatre speakers from the past. :)

No more of a pain in the @$$ than playing 45's on a modern "state of the art" manual turntable...

It certainly is beautiful. Like a piece of furniture. I purchased a nice wooden Zenith turntable/radio, simply because it was in such a nice 'portable' wooden case.

I'm wondering if this player was made by Bell Sound. AFAIK RCA and Bell were the ONLY companies that built home units.

Probably won't hear back as this guy never responds, BUT IF you want to get rid of the white powder crud on the knobs, drop them in a glass of very hot water with a denture cleanser tab and let it sit for 24-48 hours (48 if they are really crudded up) And then take a toothbrush to them while running them under hot tap water and they will clean up and look like NEW!

I inherited one of these and needs work. Do you restore these for others?
@garytube10506 ай бұрын
Have had one before, sold it wish I hadn't. Just picked up one who father worked for Seeburg. This is a prototype designed to play 33 1/3 as well as 45's. Going to have restored to play through the entertainment center.

How much are these worth? I have one I'm trying to price
@seeburgsrock7 ай бұрын
They’re only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. At 70 years old it’ll need restored to work properly. Condition is everything! Assuming unrestored, perfect speaker cloth & good cabinet it’s worth around $150 IMHO.

The spindle caps were Maroon from the factory someone must have replaced it at some point on your machine. I have two of the machines and the caps are as maroon as the tonearm. and switch and nameplate. One of mine has the Maroon volume control the other is brown.

Wait about ten years, lady. Smaller cassette recorders- and compact tape cartridges- will be available by then. 😏
@matthewfarmer252011 ай бұрын
This looks like something you would carry to a classroom so you can trun on the film and play a record for the film to have sound.
@erin1903011 ай бұрын
I never saw one like that. The pink and gray case was used on 45’s in a different configuration. Not sure I like it. A one tube amp, that sux. I know that sound of music isn’t coming out of that one tube amplifier. You have an entire separate sound system.
@edwincancelii291711 ай бұрын
I hope that both the left & right channels are wired together for mono.
@dhelton4011 ай бұрын
It clearly has the GE cartridge in it, this was one of the first mass produced magnetic cartridges. In good condition they are a great option for playing mono records. Most are easy to spot with the red button for rotating the 78 & LP stylus into position. Like all magnetic cartridges they required an extra preamp tube so they cost more.

I saw the first one of these ever in my life in a antique store in Lake Geneva wisconsin. The man there said that some were installed in the cabinets like yours but others would be installed into the walls of the owners houses themselves. No speakers were included with the unit so it left the possibilities wide open as to how the owner could distribute the sound throughout the house.

It's playing too slow.

I have this same unit SHP-8A and I’m having a few issues. It has been collecting dust in the basement for years, but it does still power up. When running the needle drops but only stays down for about 2 seconds and returns. I also noticed a burning dust smell when turning the unit on. I cleaned up some of the dust but a strong smell. The 6v6 and 5y3 bulbs get very hot when the machine turns on. Any idea on how to fix these things so I can enjoy this unit??
