You will find (I hope) plenty of other videos charting the camp's history out with On the Buses.but this channel is dedicated wholly to On the Buses hence why it sticks to the subject matter. The clue is in the channel name.

I can understand the depot being demolished but not the Victorian houses. The wholesale destruction of Victorian housing, and buildings generally, across London since WWII is shameful.
@OntheBusesDatabase18 күн бұрын
As I understand it the houses had been condemned and were riddled with damp.
@Chris-xd7iz8 күн бұрын
@ Damp is an issue in just about every Victorian house to some extent. All damp, even extreme, is treatable in Victorian early solid wall construction or later cavity. Post-war ideological planning considerations condemned many Victorian properties rather than untreatable damp or suspect ‘blitz’ damage as often touted in the 1940’s, 1950’s, and even into the 1960’s.

As somebody who worked on the buses in London from 1974 until I retired in 2024 I'm here to tell you "On the buses" was more like a documentary rather than a sitcom. It really was like the show !!

The low bridge scene I dont think is a single-decker. Eastern National didnt have a half cab single decker that would have looked like that. (the closest would have been a South Wales or Bargoed Single Deck AEC Regent V's or a Foden single deck coach type that went around the North West of England. I think what has happened (I think the Lodekka standard body would have fitted under the bridge height anyway) is for a new front cab end and upper deck saloon front has been made out of wood (the "original" dome appears to be in the still visible) and the "tin opener" effect created by a grey sheet folded over to create an illusion of impact.
@OntheBusesDatabase12 ай бұрын
Yes. It is the part with destination board that definitely looks wooden and fake.
@OntheBusesDatabase12 ай бұрын
Eastern National certainly had some form of single deckers which could be used to mimic a Lodekka with a false upper deck added. We know this as it was a trick used for series seven depot scenes. LWT's new South Bank Studios (used in series seven) was inferior to their old Wembley Studios in one way in that it did not have tall enough bay doors to allow a Lodekka to drive onto the depot set. They had to improvise using single decker buses with a fake upper deck lowered onto it from hoists once on set.
@highpath4776Ай бұрын
@@OntheBusesDatabase1 I cannot see any in series 7 where this was the case. What is interesting in last episode the vehicle the driver gets in (which is the only time one purports to drive out of the 3rd engineering bay and there are luxton and district logos behind the drivers cab on the behind staircase panel. when it is switched to being outside on the road that logo isnt there and the luxton and districts are on the lower side panels, with a white NBC logo preceeding them. Most of the time the first engineering bay has an apparent complete mock up front forward facing with a route 10 displayed, in one episode it shows a route 8 (cannot tell if reg number is the same) and one time it is rear facing with a rear body view on it. Again the 1st bay varies generally a front view, sometimes a rear one, which shows a nice attention to variations , even when (2nd or 3rd bay) ones are shown through the windows of the single deck Bristol (LH , SU or MW) vehicle - which itself is not in every episodes studio interior view..
@OntheBusesDatabase1Ай бұрын
@@highpath4776 have a look to all of the depot set scenes in series seven. Buses parked up by curtains are all single decker buses with false upper decks lowered from hoists - a known fact as Lodekkas could not make it into the studio due to bay doors being too short.
@highpath47762 ай бұрын
Other vehicles were the single deck vehicle in the last series (and one in S6 in the Wembley car park?), and the London Country AN (plus Mike Banfield's S type ), along with an Eastern National Coach in Private Hire and the Frames Tours coach
@highpath47762 ай бұрын
Was the stills and film shots of the later series not with the over written Luxton and District instead showing Eastern National an error or need for rushed 2nd unit shots for additonal filming

Its a pity Private Owner OLD666 was destroyed, it had had a long (six years) film and TV career including use in Monty Python. It seemed in good condition with a probable longer life still in TV use , but burning was how the scrap yards had destroyed to metal a lot of vehicles (normally after removing engines for separate sale).

You Missed S3 Ep8 closing titles, where reg drives out of Wood Green Garage a route 11 (the route that had been radio controlled) a KVV ? reg vehicle it turns left (east) and past the chapel and a building on the left saying "timber" on it , there is a coach stationary on the road (poss one of Crouch Ends- livery looks right) , but in continuity error the rear of the vehicle is blinded for 151 to Southend ( so stock footage or shot for that episode ?) the location etc has probably been shown on your analysis / book before but the film is fairly specific on the timing of the original shots Also used S3 EP5. S3 EP4 final credit uses b/w still of the outside of Wood Green with the bus station platform and canopy and two buses routes 351 and 251 shown, also used on EP3, with EP1 being same but in colour and not the last credit but last acting credits.

Some are left out because they are repetitve with another identical angle already covered before. And you will find they use the same footage of bus leaving or approaching the depot as it saved film for what, in all honesty, just a filler shot.

Indeed but in the same place which is key when pinpointing locations. As to when concrete lamp posts were fazed out and replaced by metal lamp posts I would say in the 1980s with the majority of it completed by the first half of the 1990s.

That is the original main road to Chiswick Works at Gunnersbury. Looking from the Main road, You had a couple of 1930's design, red brick buildings, which were offices admin training classrooms etc.The Canteen/Restaurant being further were on the end . The Uniform and stores were opposite this, top left of entrance road.The Skid Pan & Entrance straight we're behind the new buildings you see now on the right, about a 100 yards up from the Main Road entrance where your standing.Sad to see it as it is now with no trace of the Works.
