Stumbled on your video. Did the conversion on my 78 k15 about 40 years ago. First attempt was with a B&M kit. That was a waste of time and $$. couldn't get it to shift properly. Ended up with a Doug Nash DNE2 shaft and warn hubs. Still works fine. Just need to put it into 4wd every now and then.

Switch to a 12V cranking system is probably one of the easiest mods to a CUCV. A little different on the variants with the 100A 24V systems as they are equipped with DUVAC units.
@dw70943 ай бұрын
You can very easily delete/modify the glow plug system with a simple conversion to the 1987 glow plug controller system. It's a lot more reliable than the 1984 system.

Ian, I just got an 86 Cucv. I had a guy look at it and he tried to convert it to 12 V system. When I try to start it, it sounds like it has a weak battery. Could this be because he should have changed the starter to 12B?
@mickcoll708 ай бұрын
He should of replaced the starter with a 12v unit. It doesn't spin as fast as a 24v system tho. That's normal

Dana 60 Chevy front only has 3 unbolts! King pin and a straight steering arm. 10 bolt and Dana 44 can swap everything except the pumpkin and contents and inner axle shafts are different, 3/4 ton difference is hubs rotors backing plates and calipers .because of 3/4 using 8 lugs ,gm done that to match the Dana 60 ff rears and the 14 bolt ff rears

The only problem with the kit is that your chain doesn't lubricate the transfer case anymore unless it's I 4 wheel drive or you lock the front hubs in.

I know this is an older comment. I have a 89 Jimmy that I just recently bought. The person before me had put a part time kit into the np203 t case. I notice when I put into 2wd it makes a slight jingling sound. It goes away when I put unto 4wd. Any idea why? Could it be because of what you said, not getting and oil? Can/should I just leave in 4 hi with hubs unlocked?

Ian, Thanks for the great info! I am going to do this in a 1978 4x4 Cheyanne. My question is: did the shifter end up in the right spot in the truck after the swap? I am afraid it might move back to for and mods to the shifter may be necessary. I am very familiar with the 203 setup, just not so much the 205. Of one does the swap, does the shifter still sit in the same spot? I would appreciate your knowledge on this since you have actually done this swap. Thanks!! Mike

Thanks for the video. My 84 has the latch broken off. The latch and spring are missing so I can't get it to a place where the little tabs/tangs show in the windows for me to depress. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hahha I want a 6.0 Chevy cargo van 2500 or 3500 but now they cost too much used to be like 7,000 used for a 2009+ model No windows. Just a cargo van. They fly and better than a 2500 truck because they are all ugly piles these days
