Title: Disastrous experience, stay away! Rental period: August 2, 2021 to September 3, 2021 We rented “DragonFly” for a period of 1 month/ EUR 250,000 plus APA in the summer of 2021. Crew was provided by the owner Kaya Onol under leadership of captain Mustafa Kemal Ustundag. Separately, we rented a shadow boat from a different company to follow our boat. After 2 weeks into our journey, the captain of the shadow boat presented complaints stating that captain Mustafa is not providing meals until 19:00 daily, thus leaving him hungry for most of the workday; to support his allegations he showed a lengthy conversation/ conflict via WhatsApp, which almost led to a fistfight between the two captains. I approached captain Mustafa to demand timely feeding of a colleague, however peaceful discussion quickly escalated to a heated argument because Mustafa claimed that he and his seamen are too busy to provide food. He also did not allow our personal staff members (assistant & nannies) to shower aboard “DragonFly” by enforcing restrictions on hot water and AC usage, citing, “I do not allow it. My boat, my responsibility, my rules”, even though we were financially responsible for everything, including but not limited to rental, port fees, salaries, food, energy and water supplies. Mustafa’s ill-mannered attitude as a captain also caused issues with the boat staff. Mustafa fired a stewardess after a week at sea. She was substituted; however, Mustafa fired her replacement a week later, stating that both were terminated due to being drunk on duty and stealing. Another stewardess quit because of harassment from male crew members. Boat owner & I had to get involved to persuade her to stay. During confrontation it became clear that Mustafa’s claims were false. After being exposed as a liar, captain Mustafa became very vindictive, aiming to sabotage our vacation. Following day, we were not allowed to exercise renter’s right to use boat equipment; our request to use banana & tender was refused by captain citing “made up” occupancy/ speed restrictions and when all failed pretense of seaman being sick. Captain Mustafa continued to behave arrogantly, crew members were negligent, obnoxious, and disrespectful towards my family & guests (my friends were not allowed to step aboard and spend 5min to drink a beverage). We felt very unwelcome and wanted to disembark the vessel unwilling to tolerate the audacious behavior and animosity. Boat owner had to intervene multiple times to subdue captain Mustafa’s ego to finish the trip as scheduled! Overall, team was divided and non-cooperative, with exception of cook. Male boat crew members were hostile towards female stewardesses by insulting them, refusing to provide food, not providing time to take a break during the workday and not allowing them to leave the boat after work. Stewardesses were miserable and lacked motivation, which had a negative impact on the work performance and overall efficiency. Interior cabin cleaning was not adequate, our personal housekeeper had to scrub kitchen surface to bring up to industry standards and do all the laundry. Lastly, there was an issue with mismanagement of food supplies, which entailed constant overbuying and discarding of unused groceries. We’re also missing an expensive chess/ board game, which is either as a direct result of a theft or a misplacement. Bottom line - stay away from this boat and captain Mustafa Kemal Ustundag!
