Also, just wanted to say, the ones that I bought previously had a better quality than what you shared.

I will say that the Glitz sea palette was her third and meant to be like mermaid vibes. Also, the first 2 were more versatile, so there is that.

They are $54 now and there’s a Bluetooth one without the WiFi dongle. How do you do the stickers on the keys. That’s my biggest complaint. It needs color backlights per key.

I'm not sure of your purpose in making this video and while I'm sure Jane is perfectly capable of defending herself - if you don't like the price of her products then don't buy them. Yes, art supplies are expensive here in Australia but you pay for quality.

“I started this to talk to people, but then when people did come to talk to me I didn’t like it” - damn, that’s a whole mood! ❤ I honestly love it most when creators are able to make what they want, not what they think people want. Good luck, I hope you’re able to continue in a way you’re comfortable with. I think most of the “how to be an online creator” rules don’t take into account neurodiversity and disability ❤

Loved this video. Great review--and while I love Jane's art, and have learned a lot of drawing techniques from her books and videos.....yes she has a wonderful voice. Buuuuuut, I will not buy any of her art supplies, full stop. Especially the paints--after you gave this review, no way. I mean, goodness---all of the stuff she sells you can get from real art supplies makers that just don't have her cutsie skinny girls on them--and its way less expensive. I do have a lot of the Prima Marketing tins--they are pretty good. Way better than what you were showing us in this video. The pastel paints set obviously have a lot of zinc white or titanium white in them--because that's what you do to make pastel watercolors, but they don't take as much paint to get color on the page as you show in this video. The colors are more vibrant in all of the Prima Marketing paints than these. And it's awful because Jane's own art is always vibrant and glowing. Finally, I loved the shoebill! He was so cute. Love those birds.

This is pretty normal for craft companies. Some craft companies recruit talent from their own designer pool, licensing their names and branding lines of product. Or they recruit from "rising stars' in craft circles. The craft companies all do it and they create products with input from the craft artist and usually a team. The quality is wildly varied, and they source it from a short list of the same craft production companies overseas to make the products. None of them are artist quality unless the craft artist works with art aupply companies directly. JD did that with Schminke and Peerless Watercolors and the quality was great. For mass market products though its never going to be top quality. Also a lot of craft companies had to shut down, cancel or postpone lines because of Covid, shipping, supply chain issues etc. It's way less tea spillage and more corporate cost analysis and advertising budgets.

I can tell these watercolors are just bad quality all around..I have purchased some less expensive brands that are so much better..and 57.00 for a watercolor pad..that is outrageous…I like Fluid Hot Press paper…and on a side note anyone who forces their followers to use only their products and then ignores others is pretty much a cult…and that is one thing that drives me nuts..that is for profit and that’s it…

you have adhd? I do too! the impulse buying is so relatable. whenever that happens or when i’m being impatient about my paint layer drying I have to mentally tell myself “leave it” like someone telling their dog to drop something it shouldn’t have T_T and even still I rush into things lol maybe one day i’ll learn to slow down but hey at least it’s fun :> have you tried working with a limited palette? not just like a cmy(k) or red blue yellow palette, but something non traditional- I LOVE to paint portraits with a yellow, a red/pink/purple, and a green. it brings so much life to the skin with the way I layer stuff :D i’ve been switching and testing a bunch of different combinations of those colors and it’s rly fun one thing I do to keep my paintings cohesive and stay away from muddy colors is that I choose what paints i’m gonna use ahead of time. I have a big palette with 40ish colors in it that I work from, but i’ll just select 4-10 to use at a time. it also helps with the decision paralysis I get in the middle of a painting where i’m like “aaah too many pretty colors what do I choose” lol I actually really love the second baby as well as the first- soft edges are tricky but the hard edges add some nice visual texture. the colored pencils you added brought a lot of life to both portraits! you have a really good handle on showing 3d form in your art, that’s something i need to work on more lol :P thank you for this video! ✨(I’m gonna borrow a friends gansai tambi palette to try it out :D edit: I almost forgot, that sandwich method for things you like & don’t abt smth (& stuff you learned) is really cool, i’m gonna try to use that instead of the constant stream of negative criticism of my art that my brain spirals down sometimes 😅

omg I just found your channel and i’m glad I did coz you’re awesome!! shoebills do look really silly, it’s like the uncanny valley bird edition. is it a bird? is it a person in a bird suit? is it statler the muppet transformed into a bird? (the muppet comparison was so accurate T_T) thanks for being so real about your experience with the art materials, i often see so many artists sugarcoat reviews or dance around faults in things which (imo) is just not very helpful when i’m trying to research smth, yeah I rly appreciate it :D also- this video was REALLY well paced-35 minutes felt like 15, but also I didn’t feel rushed (or bored) & I can remember what you said much more than in other videos i’ve seen!! the lovebirds look so cute💖 (even with the paint being awful rip). paper makes a HUGE difference. I wish someone had told me to start off with quality paper rather than quality paints, but im just now finding what paper works for me :> we need some brand to make a 100% cotton watercolor paper that’s in between hot press & cold press, that’s smooth enough for precise details but also has a longer working time. fabriano has a “smooth press,” but it just felt like a slightly less rough paper than the cold press (dunno if I was given the wrong paper lol). I love the texture of canson XL paper, but cellulose just doesn’t cut it smh i’m a long commenter lol, but take care :) i’m gonna go watch some of your other videos now ✨

Paul Rubens 100% cotton hot press blocks might fill your need for an in-between paper; it’s smooth but still has a bit of texture and it’s very affordable in the US.

Forgive my rambling opinion here…but here goes…Well…I bought a few JD products when they were deeply discounted or discontinued at Michael’s. I have 2 of her wc sets. They are GOOD, with fun colors, but not GREAT imho and they are not artist quality as the Prima brand wcs are not either (mainly talking wcs here.) BUT if you go back and watch her instructional vids, they are GREAT and fun to watch. And her book “Fantastic Figures” is a top notch book on how to get started in heavily stylized FEMALE figure drawing. The one warning here is that you don’t draw your figures so that you’re copying her designs too closely. Jane had her time of fame and great fortune….no one who’s that popular can stay that way forever. And when Michael’s started discontinuing her products, (probably because sales started slowing) at least in the US, her hotness was pretty much done. I think she still has has a big FB fan page that she interacts with, not sure. The price of her products now, on her website, reflects the cost of products that are no longer mass produced and marketed any longer. That they’re pricey should be no surprise. (It’s that supply & demand thing.) And then if you’re a fine artist, why would you want her stuff anyway? You gotta be a big JD fan to still be interested in purchasing her brand of products now. You can purchase much more reasonably priced artist grade or even very good “student grade” quality supplies locally or online. That’s my 2cents. 😊

People will always flock with the herd to buy expensive name brand products if they see other people have it enough. You’re both adorable and hilarious at the same time. You have a unique personality and conversational style which is hard to come by on You Tube as most newbies can be just more of the same. Not that newbies are bad, it’s just it can be difficult to set oneself apart from other channels in a large established community. I think you are on to something and I hope more people find your channel. I will second your opinion on Black Wing pencils and Subscription boxes. The BW pencils are nice but I’m not sure they are worth their cost and certainly not the hype. This is the first I heard anyone mention why they are so “special”. I just knew everybody liked them and mentioned them. I bought some so I have a lot of nice pencils (2-boxes of 12) but I’m sure I could have lived without experiencing them. And subscription boxes - I fortunately have not fallen into that trap but I watch a lot of the sub box unboxings and my thoughts have never been “I gotta have that”. It’s usually more like, meh, what would I possibly do with that minuscule random box of art supplies. And who doesn’t love Prismacolors, right? I am old and I first used Prismas in 8th grade Geography class when we had to hand color maps of countries. At that time, they were pretty much undiscovered. I still have a tin of 150 today. Not to say I haven’t supplemented my colored pencils with Polychromos, Derwent Lightfast and most recently Caran d’ache Luminance but I still use my Prismacolors because they are just that nice. Loving your videos. Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts and experiences.

Love this video -- thank you for doing the hard work so those of us who have a bad case of "have to buy it, it's pretty" can avoid mistakes. My Jane story: I bought a stylish fountain pen from Jane about 2 years ago on sale, I think from the Spellbinders website, and got rid of it because I didn't like the nib but I still have the ink and use it in my favorite fountain pens so where ever she sourced that pen ink it was a good source. I also have 3 or 4 bottles of her Ink-somethingorother liquid inks I use when I spray/dye paper and love them, but she stopped selling them. Have several sets of her rubber stamps, all bought on clearance, and they're fun as can be but *so* specialized -- I mean, how many times can you use a girl on a unicorn stamp? And my set of blue&green paint pens from her are drying out from lack of use, again because the color set is so specialized. Glad I saw this video before I gave into temptation to buy that pretty tin! My wallet thanks you.
