I don’t think Nickelodeon is in a dark age or decline, as we’ve getting more good shows that are pretty much fresh & new. Take a look at Transformers Earthspark, Rock Paper & Scissors, Max and the Midnights and even the new TMNT series. It’s more like nowadays? Nickelodeon’s more treated as a studio to their parent company, then a tv network. I don’t even think Nickelodeon not being like it’s used to be isn’t because of SpongeBob reruns, I think it’s just part of a bigger problem that cable tv networks are now just old news compared to streaming services. And even then, a lot of shows are getting cancelled after two seasons, and a lot of people wouldn’t care about those shows compared to the vocal minority. But honestly though, the 2000s & 2010s were different times when it came to Nick. Of course Nickelodeon nowadays aren’t the same as it were in the 2000s & 2010s, but that’s just a giving that I’ve already accepted… because times have already changed, and wanting it to be like it used to be, while nostalgic, would be the opposite of change.

@@ShockwaveFPSStudios transformers, max and the midknights, rock paper scissors and Tmnt series are decent shows but if you look on Nickelodeons cable channel schedule you’ll see that there is nothing but paw patrol and SpongeBob reruns 24/7. Nickelodeon's viewership has been declining in recent years. In 2023, Nickelodeon was the 39th most-watched channel for adults 18-49, with an average of 75,000 viewers, which is a 27% decrease from 2022. Back then when Nickelodeon used to have “ variety and soul “ along with Disney and Cartoon Network instead of spamming one show. 2004 was also more special not just for the 1st SpongeBob film but for advertised tv movie events like Jimmy/Timmy Power hr, FOP Channel chasers and Rocket power: island of menehune. Disney still had the proud family and Iilo and stitch along side KP. Even if Sum people who were born in like 2005 or 2007 can admit that late 90’s-early 2000’s had better qualities.

I was three years old at the time and I wanted to watch the older kids cartoons. Loved Spongebob, Fairly Oddparents, Jimmy Neutron, Danny Phantom, Angry Beavers, Life as a Teenage Robot, Drake and Josh, and a couple episodes of Hey Arnold, Lazytown, Blues Clues, Dora, Diego, and Miss Spider show. They were good shows , but my sister was born in '91 and she had most of the 90s experience with Rugrats, Doug, Ren and Stimpy, All That, and the Amanda show.

So for comparisons sake, what does Nick have now over 20 years ago? We had so much variety back then and for over a decade and a half of watching YT cartoon critiques, no one has anything good to say about Nick toons that isnt loud house or harvey beaks. Spongebob being the deadest of dead horses and Rugrats reboot has everyone mixed then stopped talking about it. Ive noticed because All Star Brawl is mostly 90s to 2000s characters + strictly 80s turtles.

One issue with that schedule you shared. Little Bill actually was still on Nick during this time. The reason that Nick schedule didn't include it in the photo was because of the whole Bill Cosby situation. I believe it aired at 12:30PM. Also, Nick ended at 9PM on monday through thursdays. That day was a tuesday (All That and The Amanda Show aired at those timeslots on saturdays). According to Nickstory, Ned's Declassified aired that day at 8:30PM (Drake & Josh aired on monday, September 20, 2004 at 8:30PM). Don't worry, it's not your fault. I've done stuff like this before as well Disney Channel also had Recess in 2004. I know that isn't an original series for Disney Channel, but they were rerunning Recess a lot in 2004 and that's a pretty beloved show Something worth noting is that not every show about teenagers is aimed at tweens specifically. I mention this because I recall reading online that Teen Titans was developed for the 6-11 demographic, since they wanted to make a show that could appeal to 6, 7, and 8 year olds, since they weren't really enjoying shows like Justice League and Samurai Jack, both of which were very successful, but they were popular with older kids and teenagers, rather than younger kids You mentioned in 2005, Jimmy Neutron was on its way out. There were no signs of Jimmy being on its way out in 2005 in terms of scheduling. While production had ended, Jimmy Neutron was heavily prominent on Nickelodeon until around 2007 (and Nick USA finished premiering all the episodes in late November 2006) and even then, Jimmy still had reruns on Nick until the early 2010s. My Life as a Teenage Robot though was on its way out unfortunately. They even premiered a week of new episodes in September 2005 at 3PM and I heard there wasn't much if any advertisement for those episodes Also, you didn't even mention Avatar: The Last Airbender when talking about 2005. A show that became one of Nick's most beloved and most popular shows (though it didn't rerun as much as other shows because of how heavy it relied on continuity and story arcs) I admit I wasn't exactly pleased with the video. I admit there is a flaw of mine i've always had about myself. I think for me, I expect so much out of retrospectives and history of videos or look backs, that I get disappointed when it doesn't feel as researched as I hoped. I saw a Playhouse Disney history of video recently and it felt so short and not very well researched that I didn't really like the video, since it felt like that person didn't even do that much research of Playhouse Disney I hope i'm not coming across as too negative, especially because I know you're just starting out with KZbin videos and I know many people do improve their videos with time

Nice vid!! but how could talk about Teen Titans and NOT about Avatar The Last Airbender?? I know it came out a few years after Teen Titans, but those two were my favorite action cartoons, hands down (other than the 2000s TMNT.) I was about 11-12 years old when Avatar released in '05, and it was huge (to me and my friends, at least.) Come to think of it, maybe it wasn't as big as the other shows at the time, since you used actual watch data from that time period for your vid (also I remember stupid Toonami puritans screeching that Avatar "was not a real anime" back then.) I guess I'm curious to know what the data said about Avatar at the time. I know it's had a resurgence thanks to Netflix putting it up in 2020 when everyone and their mother re-watched it, but I truly wonder what the 2000s watch data says about it. 🧐

That’s what I’m saying, he didn’t mentioned that show but Danny phantom and teen titans which I still love to this day but avatar was much more different as I remember as a kid being all obsessed with it especially the heart warming story for the characters like zuko and uncle iron.

I think looking back, my favorite kids show from nick was Rugrats. I was a really goofy kid, and seeing other goofy kids just have adventures and have insane amounts of fun was cool to me. But yeah I couldn't stand All Grown Up lol. It didn't have any of the charm or appeal that originally got me into Rugrats and just felt like a continuation of a story I never really asked for.

The streamingwars have made spongebob not just the face of nick but also in large parts Paramount the company. The superbowl adds show that clearly too, I think. And he is definity company face material on par with something like Mario or Mickey even if still young. Even the show itself bases a lot of it's appeal now in reminding you about those old episodes more than anything, as does any videogame featuring spongebob.

Spongebob, Shrek, Garfield, Dora, Bluey, Lightning McQueen, Paw Patrol, and Hello Kitty are the most popular cartoon characters right now. At least in terms of marketing. Mickey Mouse is a more unusual case. Because Mickey Mouse is public domain. Yet he's also not public domain. The really old stuff like Plane Crazy and Steamboat Willie _finally_ became public domain. When in reality, it should've been public domain 40 years ago. But more recent stuff like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse isn't. Also, Mickey as a corporate mascot, will never become public domain (for as long as the Walt Disney Company continues to use him as such).
