'Amr ibn Abd al-Wudd had already fought at the Battle of Badr against the Muslims. He sustained injuries and wasn’t able to fight in the Battle of Uhud, so the Muslims weren’t afraid of him; they had already faced him and injured him. He sought revenge against the Muslims. Later, during the Battle of Khandaq, he requested to fight. While they weren’t afraid, they were cautious because he was a very strong man. In this aspect, Hazrat Ali (ra) displayed great courage. We can say he was among the most courageous at that time, second only to the Prophet (s).
