Comment for Hartzell Proeller. Maybe you can help me with this. Two aviation issues really bug me that are associated with propellers. A. For various reasons, on a regular twin engine plane, the wing portion directly within the prop wash or behind the prop, should be super streamlined, not a blunt leading edge design. Thank you. B. The other thing, is that with the fairings and blunt noses of many light aircraft, much of the prop thrust is wasted by ramming directly into the bodywork and windshield. Beating, constantly, over and over again, at those locations. What can be done? Perhaps you could make a prop where the thrust is generated only near the outer tip. For the remainder, at the inside span radius, make a rotatable streamlined shroud. Other methods would be make the inner length thin & sword-like, or use a larger prop nose cone. Thank you for giving these matters your attention.

This is the most professional repair I have seen and I am so gratified to have seen it. Now I can hopefully repair my composite propeller. Thank you so much.

This was great in theory but his repair was dodgy, the marker on the glass, the glass even moved out of place when he taped it too. And surprised they didnt fair it either.

I think I would have just filled that scratch with bondo and painted the prop. That wasn’t a gouge it was a tiny scratch! You actually did more damage to the structural integrity of that prop by repairing the “damage”.
@michaeljohn8905 Жыл бұрын
Just asking what are your qualifications to make such a comment. Not trying to be starting any KZbin fights I just want to know what should be best because the difference between dressing up Rob and doing a structural repair are very different from what I understand and what I read in the regs I don’t think I’m even allowed to dress up a prop like that am I ? I understand fiberglass repair as I worked on a lot of boats, but now that I’m working on GA Aviation Aviation it’s all rules and regulations now.
@Trump985 Жыл бұрын
Well I don’t have any “qualifications” I do have experience with both composites and experimental aircraft. Technically you aren’t allowed to do much of anything if you have a certified aircraft. But you can do almost anything you want on an experimental. Not including any type commercial use be it part 91, 135, 121, ect. I don’t understand why anyone would want a certified aircraft. So if you are flying one you “technically” can’t do much. Obviously if you are an A&P especially if you have an I/A and working on a customers aircraft you wouldn’t dream of doing anything outside the manufacturers procedure due to the liability. I was thinking about experimental aircraft, not just experimental but your own experimental aircraft be it a homebuilt you are working on under your repairmans certificate or a commercially produced aircraft as that is what I am familiar with when I made this comment.

Thank you, Hattzell for putting this video out. Am still confused as to why Aeroshell 6 is recommended vs 5. If you mainly operate in hot Texas weather and will not be operating in weather greater than -40F, isn’t 5 better due to less oil separation?
@RichardSmith-kb3uk9 ай бұрын
I used number 5 on mine. Maybe I was wrong? I will be specifically asking this question to my prop shop as I'm getting 2 Hartzells overhauled now and they looked pretty good on tear down. Arizona is my location.
@Aviyaytor9 ай бұрын
@@RichardSmith-kb3uk You will be using Hartzell NYCO GN 0358 grease from now most likely according to Hartzell HC SL 61-366. Most overhauled props will be using this stuff.
@RichardSmith-kb3uk8 ай бұрын
@@Aviyaytor I just got my props back and hung them yesterday. They work perfectly although I haven't had a chance to actually fly it because of a little more unrelated engine work. Johnson Propeller out of Bakersfield, CA told me to ONLY use Aeroshell #5. They did try using other new greases but stopped after only 1 month because of so many issues with customers props coming back to them. They put stickers on each overhauled prop that states, "Aeroshell #5 Only". I don't think there can be a stronger statement than that. This is a 1962 Cessna 310 with 2 Blade 80" Hartzell's. There may be exceptions to this, I wouldn't know. I'd use what's recommended by someone you trust. I trust these guys and a lot of mechanics I know have liked their work for decades. So there you go. For whatever it's worth.
