Great video, thanks ! I was thinking of applying it in an urban environment and also eliminate the need of finding trees or poles to tie it up on. My idea is that two people could climb on some elevated surfaces in the city and securely hold the two edges of the wire simultaneously with about 25m distance between them , while the camera runs. For the initial setup , one edge of the wire would be extended/carried to pointB mounted on a 3m insta360 stick (through thread ring or clip) above any people or vehicles passing by. One of the two people would remote control it to run on the wire in this case.What do you think ?

ah man this got me excited. i'm over 60. I have done a fair bit of B&W processing, but all of it a very long time ago. I'm pretty sure i haven't developed a roll since the 1980s. In Grade 11 in Regina I processed quite a few rolls under the tutelage of our arts instructor. Later, I held summer jobs with Parks Canada and Agriculture Canada in which I was supplied a camera and film and a darkroom, and I wrote articles for publication along with my own self-processed photos. But since then I've sent away my films. I now live in Canada's north and where I live there are no labs, and not even any shop that sends out your film. I'm stuck with pricey mailings-out, or with bringing my films when I go south. Who sells this Ilford starter kit in Canada, and who sells a darkbag? can the tightening knob be tighter to control movement? just got my Gimbal.... 57.00 USD from Adorama
@PHOTONewsTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi @Rick Renda .. the tightening knob doesn't have to cranked down fully - it can be left at any tension to control movement. The only one that should be tightened fully is where you attach your lens/camera - make sure it's secure. The other knobs can be set for your preference for smooth motion.
@crestonburks21413 жыл бұрын
Very informative. BUt, the real issue you were having when trying to get the lens to balance was NOT the height. it was the lens foot position. The camera and lens ( while extended) needs to be center balanced front to back. AND, the lens height should always be centered in relation to the adjustment knob. You want the camera to be centered with pivot point, not swinging like a pendulum.
@PHOTONewsTV3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Creston. You're right about the fore/aft position for balance. As for the height, that depends on the balance of your camera. A colleague in another video shows adding counterweights to the bottom of a camera without a grip to get everything in balance. I was also referring to a competitive product that doesn't offer the height adjustment, which as you note, leaves you "swinging like a pendulum". You'll also find that a zoom lens such as the Tamron 150-600 is a little trickier to setup compared to a prime.
@crestonburks21413 жыл бұрын
@@PHOTONewsTV Sure. You are correct about adding weight, but if the lens foot or plate is of proper length, it should be able to be balanced, under most cases. I used to use a Sigma 150-600. I never really liked the added imbalanced weight when zooming out and the tiny focus ring was rubbish. But I did like being able to directly put the lens into manual override for focusing, versus having to put my Sony into DMF mode with my Sony 200-600 lens.

The one risk you have with buying from Amazon and many of their resellers is the lack of warranty and service. You can't go to the Yelangu distributor in Canada for help - you have to deal with the Chinese company. Also note that Yelangu made a slight change internally - the very first version developed an oil leak under pressure changes. Not all of the different versions of this gimbal got the upgrade. Hi Neil, Optically, the two lenses are very similar. The R2 is a touch sharper thanks to the updated lens coatings. The R2 also employs two microprocessors - one for AF and one for VC, meaning your auto focus will be faster and more accurate and you have a bit more hand-holding stability. I found the F004 to be an equal to my Micro Nikkor 105mm for stability and sharpness. I hope you like it!

Just got the Voigtlander APO Lanthar 110 thursday,havent had the right conditions to test same,but now im thinking of returning same to get the Tamron and the Laowa 100mm,both for macro...the Voigtlander seems like a great lens,but one that id have to be real careful with..Opinions?
@PHOTONewsTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi R Line. Sorry for the delay - we were shut down due to Covid business closures. I've heard good things about the Voigtlander - build quality is excellent and optics are nice. I have heard they can be delicate - you don't want to bump it. The Tamron is better built and more robust. It should also auto focus on your Sony and the VC should function perfectly. The Laowa is another excellent choice for macro - especially with the 2x magnification. I haven't had a chance to use it much yet, but I've had it in my hands. Build quality and optics on the Laowa are sublime for the price. The only thing I would do is replace the front filter with a quality Kenko Pro. You need the filter as the lens barrel is actually open on the Laowa. Interesting design but the lens is so sharp, you can forgive it's quirks :-)

Good review,im trying to decide between this lens and a couple of others..ill be adapting this to 2 different Sony bodies(A7III and A7RII),Im already using a adapted Tamron 17-35 f2.8-4 and it works very well and is very sharp for landscapes.But im doing extensive research before buying..Ive looked into the Sony 90mm G OSS,but the reported copy variations in quality has me not wanting to gamble,take a chance and have to worry about sending it back and not to mention the focus by wire with the Sony.im also looking at the Voigtlander APO 110mm f2.5,which im sure would provide top tier sharpness and image quality..But,once again ive thoughts of interest on the Tamron,the reviews look great,but i need top quality sharpness and images to possibly provide local state parks with prints of various flora/ fauna/insect population within the park for presentation to the public..anyway,opinions greatly appreciated..
@PHOTONewsTV4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I agree with you about the Sony 90mm G - I've seen some good copies and some not so good. I haven't personally tested the Voigtlander, but I expect it to be quite good. Another lens you might want to look at it is the Laowa/Venus Optics 100mm 2.0x macro. I've been really happy with Laowa lenses - fully manual like the Voigtlander. From my use, it's the sharpest 100 mm range macro lens out there. I'm trying to get a sample for a full review. The only concerns with any manual lens are, well they're manual so you don't have an AF option if you need it, and if you like your EXIF data, it can be difficult to get the right info with your images. I have a few manual lenses and I know my EXIF on some of them isn't quite right. The Tamron R2 is probably the best of the bunch as far as sharpness and overall sample variation (right up there with the Canon 100). The two processors really set this lens apart in the Auto crowd.
@RaysAirgunsReview4 жыл бұрын
@@PHOTONewsTV hello..yes,the Laowa 100mm definitely has my attention,especially good reviews on sharpness AND the 2:1 ratio..One issue that concerns me is the lens element that moves within the lens barrel,But,i imagine if you keep a good uv filter on the front that doesnt degrade the image quality,then it seems to be a reliable,sharp macro lens..After reviewing images on Flickr took with the Laowa 100mm,wow,yeah really detailed images..The Laowa seems to be a great performer with detailed,razor sharp pictures..Missing Exif data on the Sony E mount version isnt really a concern and the in body image stabilization set manually to the focal length of 100mm should work decently.The main way to not worry about camera shake would be the use of a tripod,or higher shutter speeds and/or a diffused flash,i think its a good option.
@PHOTONewsTV4 жыл бұрын
@@RaysAirgunsReview The Laowa do come with a protector filter, but I would replace it with a Kenko Pro or similar protector. The 60mm 2.0x is the same and that's what I did with mine. There's no real image degradation with or without a filter if you use a good one. But sharpness - oh yes! Very sharp!! You should test it and the Tamron to compare as they are both excellent macro lenses.

@PHOTONewsTV5 жыл бұрын
I asked the manufacturer. It came down to cost - they had already sourced this bolt for use in similar products and it made more financial sense to buy more of this than to use a different knurled bolt just for this purpose.
