Adding a booster/repeater will not help, if you are located in a poor signal strength area. A booster could make things worse. If your cell phone is an Android, you can download an App called "Wifi Analyzer". Wifi Analyzer will display the signal strength of the wifi Access Points (AP's) in the hotel. Walk the hall of the hotel, and notice where the signal strength increases and decreases. Ask for a room near the higher signal strengths. Ideal is to get a signal strength >-67 dBm. Also, I have surveyed many hotels, and some have been sold terrible wifi coverage by their service provider. As a general guide, a three-floor hotel with a central hall, might have two AP's on the first and third floor (each about 1/3 from the far wall), and one AP in the middle of the second floor. If you stay at this same hotel, find a room location that you can ask for all the time, where you know the signal strength is high. Ask the front desk where the AP's are. I have surveyed some motels that had only one AP, in the lobby office, and the rebar in the concrete ceiling/floor block the RF and made wifi on the second floor useless. In summary, use the Wifi Analyzer on the Android, to find the highest signal strength. High signal strength = higher speed.
