The control plan and the worker nodes are getting IP from DHCP. we don't have DHCP and i would like to configure static IP on the cluster nodes and control plane. Can you please confirm if that is possible and how can we do that ?

Do we need to install any tkgi plugin in worker nodes
@virtualelephant11 күн бұрын
It should be handled automatically as part of the deployment. The template does not need any of them preinstalled.

Hello, I am having 3 Ubuntu 22.04 servers Purpose of installing RKE2 cluster So I will install 1 master and 2 nodes, right? How will Rancher be installed? on the master server? I wonder if you have ever installed the rke2 ubuntu 22.04 cluster? Help me
@virtualelephant17 күн бұрын
You can run Rancher anywhere that has access to those 3 servers. If you have Docker on your laptop or desktop, you'd be fine to install Rancher there and then deploy your RKE2 cluster to the 3 servers.

Amazing video! I'm curious about your choice of using ReadWriteMany (RWM) for Grafana instead of ReadWriteOnce (RWO). Is there a specific reason for this decision, and is it recommended to use RWM over RWO in production environments for PVC access mode?
@virtualelephant17 күн бұрын
Running the persistent volume in ReadWriteMany allows multiple pods to access the volume, so that means the Grafana deployment can be spread across multiple nodes. It can also depend on what type of storage you have backing the persistent volumes and their capabilities.

How do you handle IP addresses?

I'm using DHCP for almost everything when I'm deploying Kubernetes clusters.

@@virtualelephant What happens if the ip changes?
@darthVikes17 күн бұрын
@@virtualelephant does have the IP change cause any issues? Does it change? Are you changing your lease length to something super long? Or are you using consul or some other mesh services so that it doesn't matter if it does change?

2.8.2 my UI is so different, is there an updated version?
@virtualelephant17 күн бұрын
Yes, there is a newer version of Rancher. I've created a newer version of the Rancher video that shows the differences in the UI between the 2023 and 2024 videos.

Very nice breakdown Chris & thank you for this video. I'm in the process of doing my TOGAF certification and I want to specifically focus on Digital Transformation Architecture? Is there anything else I should know/ do in terms of upskilling myself to thrive in this field?
@virtualelephant16 күн бұрын
Do whatever you can to get experience and be able to align the things with you learn in TOGAF with the real-world.

Great video, thank you for posting this. It is very helpful. I was wondering if you do anything to your templates before creating clusters with them. I am forever stuck on "Waiting for agent to check in and apply initial plan". I can seem to figure out the issue. I thought maybe it has something to do with the template.
@thecactustree18 күн бұрын
Same issue here. Can't even create the cluster. There are threads about bugs that can cause this but they've been open since 2018 with no fixes except for existing clusters
@OrgNetworks18 күн бұрын
@@thecactustree I was able to get everything to work. I think my issue was with the template. Make sure you set that up by the "book".
@thecactustree18 күн бұрын
@@OrgNetworks my "template" is the Ubuntu cloud OVA with no changes. Does it need customization? I was reading it worked out of the box.
@virtualelephant17 күн бұрын
Make sure you are using the cloud image template and that the VM (assuming you are doing this in a VMW environment) is able to get an IP address through DHCP.
@virtualelephant17 күн бұрын
Not in my experience. The stock/standard Ubuntu Cloud OVA works out of the box.

What about Terraform?
@virtualelephant17 күн бұрын
I don't see Terraform as an architecture tool, but rather an operational one. As such, while an Architect should be familiar with it's capabilities (or any automation platform), having a certification in Terraform might not be necessary. YMMV

so Cilium provide both cluster mesh and service mesh for the pods ? , does isito do the same ?
@iDontFinishAnyt2 ай бұрын
Nice video but it should be noted you’re using the term Availability Zone incorrectly. You’re deploying across two REGIONS. Each region has 3 AZs and AKS can already deploy a single cluster across multiple AZs in the same region.

Do I need programming knowledge/experience to become a Solutions Architect?
@virtualelephant3 ай бұрын
@kogo9493 It's certainly not a requirement. Solutions Architecture is more about understanding how all of the components are capable of being integrated with one another. The more you understand, the better off you'll be, so having programming knowledge certainly won't be a disadvantage.

Check that the Tanzu CLI has initialized and that the plugins are present.

I ran into this issue today. Spent half a day destroying my entire system to find what was causing this. I was running tanzu-cli version 1.2.0. As soon as I downgraded it to 1.1.0, it started to work. Nothing explained in VMware documentation and no luck doing google searches.

Microsoft said Hubble doesn't supported at the moment if using CNI with cillium in Azure
@virtualelephant4 ай бұрын
Interesting. It was easy enough to deploy inside the AKS cluster, not sure why Microsoft would differentiate between "support" or "not supported", as it's basically just a workload.
